============================================================================= NEWSFLASH INFORMATION FILE ============================================================================= CONTENTS -------- - Hardware update by Martin Jansen SHORT HARDWARE NEWS DeskJet printers ---------------- Hewlett Packard has expanded their deskjet printer family. The complete range has 2 new models : DeskJet 510 & DeskJet 1200C. The DeskJet 500 has put on a new coat and is a bit faster than his older brother, the DeskJet 500. Furthermore, the 510 has 84 build-in ATM and Truetype fonts, and 4 scalable fonts. The DeskJet 1200C is a color deskjet, based on the 80960 RISC processor. In black and white mode, the 1200C produces 6 pages per mi- nute at a maximum resolution of 300 * 600 DPI, due to their Resolution Enhancement Technology. In color mode, the resolution is set to 300 * 300 DPI. The user can choose out of 16.7 million colors. Printing time in color is around 1-3 minutes. The 1200C has 2 Mb of memory which should be enough for color printing. Pricetag 510 : 500 US$ 1200C : 2500 US$ A1200 RAM extension ------------------- The A1200 seems to be the computer that will keep the Amiga-fire burning. This could be said due to the enormous response Commodore has got from several hard- and software developers to support this computer. Especially in Germany the attention for this computer is very good. For example Udo Neuroth Hardware design who has designed a memory extension board for the A1200. The card can hold up to 4Mb 32bit FastRAM with zero-wait-states, a internal system-clock, coprocessor untill 50 MHz. The card is fitted internally. Easy upgradable with 1Mb SIMM modules. Pricetag without RAM : 100 US$. Pricetag with 4Mb mem.: 225 US$. A1200 TurboCard --------------- Also the hardware industry for turbocards is still blooming for the A1200. Microbotics from Germany has one special : the M1230 XA. This card has a 68030 processor on-board with 32bit RAM expansion possibility and a real- time systemclock. The card is fitted on the internal expansion slot and the user can choose between the following flavours : 33 MHz, 40 MHz or 50 MHz for the real speeddemons among us. The card can be upgraded up to 128 Mb ! with normal SIMM modules. Also a socket for an optional mathe- matical unit is provided for math using programs like ray-tracing etc. Pricetag without RAM and coprocessor : 600 US$. (33 MHz) Genlock ------- Hama from Germany introduces its low-budget Genlock for all Amiga computers. Though, the low-budget doesn't mean automatically that it is also low-qua- lity. The other competetives in this segment have lack of professional in- and outputs, but this is not for the HAMA 292. The Genlock can directly mix audio with video, accepts FBAS and Y/C input. Furthermore, the genlock has on-board RGB correction, Blackfade and a switch between the several video-sources on one screen. Technical specs : - Videonorm : PAL - Videoinput: FBAS & Y/C - Video-out : FBAS & Y/C - Noiseratio: 65 dB S/N - BandWidth : 10 MHz Pricetag : 325 US$ EGS 110/24 ---------- Great Valley Products from USA has developed a new 24bit graphics card for the high-end user. The card has a programmable band-width from 5 MHz untill 110 MHz with 16.8 million colors for several screen resolutions and refresh rates. The card can be put directly at the 32bit bus from GVP turbo cards, which makes datatransfer rates untill 50 Mb/s possible. Synchronization with an external videosource and a hardware cursor (64 * 64 bit) are a few of the possible features on this card. The card has standard 4Mb of videomeory, expandable untill 8Mb. The EGS 110/24 is made for the A2000/3000/4000 and operates is PAL, NTSC and SECAM standards. A special software driver comes with this card to use it with all other programs that uses the Workbench. Pricetag : 3000 US$. Pro-Kick -------- IDS Hard- and Software from Germany has made THE solution for the A500 user to expand his system like an A2000. The solution is called Pro-Kick and offers the user, depending of the model, one or four Zorro II slots to expand your A500 (plus). The Pro-kick is placed in a metal cover and has also the possibility to put an Eprom into it. The Eprom has a capacity of a 1/2 or 1Mb (kick 1.2 & 1.3 are 256 Kbyte and kick 2.0 and 3.0 are 512 Kbyte). The device has to be connected to the Amiga 500 expansion-port and when done, you are able to use cards like Vlab, Retina, Golem Ram-expansion, etc. The software contains a program to put a kickstart into the Eprom and when enough Eprom capacity is installed, via a jumper-setting the user can select which Kickstart to use.
