@2{FINDING AMOS PRO & PRO COMPILER @3 }by Chris Evans @4 Out here in the colonies it was a surprise to read in AZ 8 that AMOS Pro and the Pro Compiler can't be purchased, even from Europress. It was less of a surprise that the coverdisk version of the Pro wasn't complete. @1 They're both still available here (sources to follow), but first an opinion from me and my user group, including both coders and non-coders. @5 If Europress has stopped producing them, the next step is something we all owe Francois Lionet ... we should ask him if there is still a publisher, or if he can supply the progs with manuals. Perhaps he has the manuals on disk, which would make it easy for him to sell both the progs and manuals arranging to print more manuals. But the rumour here is that Amiganuts will publish the whole new AGA.ECS version with manual. Anyway, does anyone have Francois' address? ... snail mail or e-address? ... let's ask him what's up. @3 If Francois can't sell them, then the progs are, as the publishers say, "out of print", and copying the disks and docs is not ethically wrong, since no one loses anything, the way AZ 6 disk 2 had the Creator manual in an ascii file. We could each type up a chapter. But I can't believe that Francois would be unable to put something decent together to sell. @4 Now about sources. Buying from No. America may mean getting an NTSC version, and I don't know if that's a problem for PAL users. Anyway, these are the vendors that told me by phone on September 6 that they have these items for sale: @5 1. Software Hut Folcroft Business Park 313 Henderson Drive Sharon Hill, PA 19079 USA Voice: 610-586-5701 Fax: 610-586-5706 Hours: Mon-Fri: 9am - 6 pm Sat: 10-4 pm Eastern Standard Time AMOS Pro: $45.00 U.S. Compiler: none @5 Orders: They accept international orders by fax. It should show both front and back of your credit card, what you're ordering, and the address they should ship to. Phone first to see if it's in stock. @4 2. Safe Harbour 2120 E. Moreland Blvd., Suite 2 Waukesha, WI 53186 USA Voice: 414-548-8125 Fax: 414-548-8130 AMOS Pro: $58.00 Compiler: none Orders: same fax method as Software Hut. @33. DeVine Computers 25 South Old Baltimore Pike Lafayette Bldg., Suite 202 Newark, DE 19702 USA Voice: 302-738-9046 Fax: 302-738-9259 AMOS Pro: $45.00 U.S. Pro Compiler: $39.00 Orders: same fax method as above. @4 4. Wonder Computers London, ON, Canada Voice: 519-681-0004 AMOS Pro: $80 Can Compiler: none The above store is near my home. They don't do mail order, but if AZers want, I'll buy and ship them the Pro for £45. @3 5. Wonder Computers 371 Old Kingston Rd. Scarborough, ON M1C 1B7 This branch is a 1.5 hour drive from my home. Voice: 416-286-0001 AMOS Pro: $80 Can Compiler: none @5 6. Our Amiga users group sells used software for members, and has one copy of the Pro and Pro Compiler for $35 Can each, which I could ship to the UK for £20 each. @4 It's always best to check on stock before ordering, since new supplies aren't likely to arrive, and if you really need to do it cheap without calling long distance, you can have Andy Smith at AZ e-mail me that you want stock and price checked, I can phone them for free on the toll-free lines, and I'll e-mail Andy back the answer and he can let you know. @3 Now if you're phoning yourself to check on stock you need to call during business hours, and I don't know the time difference bewteen the UK and No. America. So to figure that out, look at your watches now ... I have 11:15 PM, see what you have, that's the time difference. You're welcome. @5(That's funny Chris, I'm at 11:15 PM now also!!! - Andy G) @1 So let's find out from Francois and/or Amiganuts what's going on. If anyone has their e-mail addresses I can send off a message. My internet is: Chris.Evans@homebase.com Fidonet isn't as reliable, but mine is: Chris Evans 1:2401/302 If your Fido prompt asks if this is "Cubic" in Canada answer "yes". @5 Well what can we say? Thanx heaps to Chris for doing all the ground work and I'm sure many British Amos users seeking copies of Pro will be over the moon. @5 We did say that Amoszine would be first with any news about the availability of Pro, and we were right. If I were you, I would contact Chris and get them now (especially the £20 offer) as there are no firm plans for a re-release of Pro in the UK at this present time. However, that doesn't meen that it won't be available again! I can't say too much about this as I have been asked to keep quiet, but all I can say is that a deal is (sort of) taking place between a certain company and Europress for distribution rights of Pro !!! @1:^) @5 Amoszine will be first to let you know of any re-release dates if/when the time comes - so stay tuned. As for the AGA Extension, yes, Amiganuts (or Petra Software as they are becoming known as now) are actually shipping it! As I type this, I still have not received my copy (and I have been waiting for over a month now). So if I were you, I would hold off until Az gives you full details about this new extension. (hopefully by next issue) Joe at Petra Software spoke to myself on the phone and assures me that the extension does exist, but was bugged and had to sent back for updating!!! Ho hum, save yer money just now peeps as you could be in for a long wait! @1Andy Gibson.
