<>@2{WILLY'S WEIRDY NIGHTMARES @3 }Review By Andy Gibson @4 I'm sure many of you have heard of or even played Jet Set Willy on the old Spectrum and maybe the enhanced C64 version. @1 The first ever game I saw was indeed Jet Set Willy when the Spectrum first appeared. (or there abouts) @5 I played it for weeks on end not getting very far. I was hooked! One day in John Menzies, I overheard some kids (I was a kid too at the time) talking about endless lives for the game. HA HA ! I thought. Poke this and Poke that! What did it all mean? @3 To cut a long and boring story short, I managed to get endless lives and a few other pokes for the game. @1<|:^) @5I tried to complete it, but with no luck! Ya see, the very last item was a real barst to get andd you had to loose a man to get it (or so I was told) and due to the endless lives poke, everytime I jumped into the room to get the item, I was killed in a big infinate loop! @3 I eventually gave up and was really glad when the C64 enhanced version was realesed. No cheat modes though and with even more rooms to explore made the game near impossible! @4 Eventually I moved onto the Amiga and was glad to get a Speccy Emulator and of course a snapshot of Jet Set Willy also. Wow, I could now play my favourite game again! @4It was rather slow and boring due to my old and trusty A500 running the emulator though! Still no nearer completetion as I couldn't find the pokes anywhere!!! (does anyone have 'em that's reading this ?) @1 Better news arrived in the form of a new commercial release of Jet Set Willy for the Amiga. @5 Wow, but wait ... it was crap ! Yeah OK it had the same layout with better gfx n all, but the game didn't have the same appeal as the original. @3 Oh woe is me ! (uh?) @4 Into the drawer with all copies of the game. Never will I see it nor play it again. After all, it is impossible to complete (or can anyone prove me wrong?) I've never met anyone who has completed it. @5Searching the PD Libraries for "home-made" versions proved to be a nightmare due to the real crap versions doing the rounds (I won't mention which ones). However, I was pleasantly surprised to see a great version of the game on the coverdisk of AUI. @3 Wow. A new and great version with some real stunning gfx and to top it all off, it's written in Amos. @4 Oh I must have played it for about four minutes and decided to register for the full version. One of the best fivers that I've spent on software for a long time. @1 While I was at it, I asked the author of the game, Willys Weirdy Nightmares if he could code a special version for everyone at Az to play. (It should be supplied with this issue) @4A week later it had arrived ......... Now I'm sure that I don't have to tell you the plot for the game, do I? @1 Just collect all the items around Willys mansion. Simple uh? @5 Well maybe so, but there are a few good challenging rooms to tackle too. @3 Unlike the original versions, WWN has a Save/Load feature which is very handy indeed. It would be wise to save your game after completing a hard room. I have almost completed the demo version using this method. @4 There are a total of 196 items to collect in the demo version and some of them are tricky to get, especially under the stairs where you have a great big book to jump over! @6 (A bit of timing is required methinx) @5Other items are easy to get and some are even too easy, but who wants know about them? @3 The gfx are all in 64 colours and are stunning to say the least. The gameplay is great and I was addicted from screen number one. @4 Some extra features over previous releases include, hidden rooms, mazes and switches to activate bridges etc. @1 A great game and it comes fully recommended (especially the full registered version). @7 Rating: #78/10 @5 I would like to see and option to Load a game during play to save quitting and the game will only run on an A1200 due to the Icon bank being compiled in the code! @1:( @4Richard could do well to rework the code to load the Icons from disk so every Amiga user could play a game. @1 The size of the code could also be cut down in the demo version for people with less memory also, but who has less than 1 meg these days? @5 At first the game wouldn't run from my hard drive, but a nice letter to Richard sorted that problem out (cheers m8). @3 Nice helpful guy and he desereves more than just a couple of peeps registering for the full game. @4 Richard mentioned that he might even send myself the source code to give away with Az, but to be honest, I've told him to hang off until he makes some money from the game first. But that's not to say we won't get it @1:^) @5I have even offered to sort the game out for Richard so that it runs on all Amigas. As yet, I am still waiting for a reply. @3 Steve at F1 likes the game so much that he thinks it should be an F1 title. @4 Maybe Richard will agree when I tell him! That's if his shareware concept isn't working of course. @1:-( OK, you have the demo and Richard has even sent in an iff piccy and some of his past source code for you to look at. (nice one m8) @5 Here's hoping that Richard will be a regular contributor to Amoszine in the future ...... Please show your support and at least write to Richard to let him know what you think of the game. (or Register maybe) @1End.
