============================================================================= HARDWARE NEWS ============================================================================= Turbo news : In the series turbo cards from Great Valley Products, a new top-model is born. It's the 50 MHz 68030 version of the G-Force accelerator card for the Amiga 2000. The card is according to the latest test-results, about 22 times faster than the standard Amiga 2000. The card is supplied with 4 MByte 32-bit RAM (60 ns) and is easily upgra- dable with 4 MByte Simm-modules to 16 MByte of memory. On the card, an Serie-II SCSI controller is integrated. This controller is only, due to its 32-bit configuration, for use with the card in 68030-mode. SCSI controller : The firm Masoboshi has developed a SCSI-controller in combination with an AT-bus-controller. Also a memory increase is possible with this controller. In steps of 2 MByte each time, the memory can be maximum set on an amount of 8 MByte. Upgrading of the memory is done with 4Mbit DRAMs. Some short specifications : - Auto-configuring - Auto-mount - RDB-compatible - SCSI disconnect / reselect - RAM & Harddisk on / off switch - Integrated Dual Port RAM-DMA Controller for high diskspeed and high performance for each processor The price of this piece of hardware without RAM but with an LPS 52 harddisk : +/- 300 UK pounds. AT emulator : The American firm Great Valley Products has released its AT-emulator for the A500+ harddrive. The expansion is only for use by people with an A500+ harddrive, due to the special connector (GVP Minibus) used on the emulator. The used chipset is almost the same as the Vortex AT-once emulator. The specs are about the same as the Vortex. The price of this piece : 230 UK pounds. 24 Bit Graphics : For the Amiga 2000 & 3000 a new colorcard has been released. The name is Colormaster 24 and it comes with 3 MByte of RAM and is able to display 16.8 million colors. Installation is easy : release Denise out of its socket, put the Colorcard in the connector and put Denise back on the Colorcard. The card can be configured via Arexx or CLI- commands. Supplied software with this card is "OPERA" and it is possible to make a combination between music, pictures and text, briefly a multimedia package. Price Tag : 450 UK pounds. Genlock : For all Amiga models, the firm Brolock has developed a genlock with a built-in RGB-splitter. The genlock has connections for the following standards : - S-VHS - Hi 8 - Fbas - RGB Also some special effects are possible like fading, superimposing, and inversimposing. With the Blue-separation control, color corrections are easily made. With the built-in RGB splitter you can digitize with i.e. Digi-View or Deluxe-View directly. Price: 230 UK Pounds. Kickstart ROM : Kolff Computer Supplies, the inventor of the first hardware PC emulator for the Amiga 500, has made a general kickstart-switch. This switch is for use with the Amiga 500, 500 + and the Amiga 2000. On the print, 2 kickstart ROM's can be put in their sockets. Price (including kickstart V 1.3) : 35 UK pounds. New Amiga Model : I bet you've read all about it, but here is some news about the sensational new Amiga 600. First of all, there is no numeric island like there is on all other Amiga models. Secondly, Commodore has invented a new storage-medium : the memory-card. It's at this moment not yet known what kind of storage capabilities this memory-card has. Third, a TV-modulator is built-in. When you'll look inside this machine, you'll will see a print with SMD-technique (Surface Mounted Device). Due to the new pin-configurations, a lot of existing hardware expansions can not be put in this new model. For example, the Vortex AT-once card, several Turbo-boards and even flickerfixers can not be used. There are also some new chips used like : Denise 8373, Fat Agnus 8375 (2 MByte chip), Paula 8364, Gayle-chip; a new chip for adres-coding. 2 models will become available : the A600 and the A600 HD, where HD stands for harddrive. Harddrive capabilities are between 20 MByte and 180 MByte. Price Tag : A600 >> 300 UK pounds A600 HD with 20MByte >> 450 UK pounds.
