========================================================================== Newsflash Product Review : BOMBJACK ========================================================================== Released by : ELITE SYSTEMS [Encore Budget Label] Price : £9.95 Game Type: Arcade Conversion - Platform Game ========================================================================== You are Jack and you have to fly high around the screen defusing the bombs and dodging the baddies in order to rattle up a high score. This Tecmo arcade game is now getting on in years.. how does the Amiga version look? The news isn't good. The game was programmed and released quite a while ago and didn't do awfully well. The 8bit versions did though, they were very playable and good conversions. Unfortunatly thats 2 things that this product isn't. One word it is though, is unmentionable. I don't think I've encountered many arcade conversions as lack-lustre as this one, the gameplay is just totally removed from the fast, fun play of the 8bit versions let alone the arcade version. Which is a shame as the game could have, indeed SHOULD have been arcade perfect. The game was programmed by PARADOX, notable for an awful series of games in the early days of the ST/Amiga. Here the programming standards leave little to be desired.. I have no doubt you could reproduce the arcade game accurately using AMOS (reviewed also). But the worst feature is the music, quite possibly THE worst piece of music I have EVER had the misfortune to hear. It's certainly an experience. Criticisms: Lacks everything it should contain, eg gameplay, nice graphics and sound of any quality. A lacklustre attempt of a dated game in stark contrast to Elites release of Ghost's and Goblins.. is this really the same company. A baffling release that has very, very little going for it. Comments: I think I've said it all above.. Not a title I could reccomend. Ratings: Graphics : 50% Poor versions of the original. Slow moving sprites. Sound : 5% Simply AWFUL. Gameplay : 40% Poor, has little to draw you. Overall : 20% Elites worst release on the Amiga. Why bother Elite??
