CAGED ARTIST'S D-10/110 EDITOR (c)1988 by Robert Melvin Supplemental notes for version 1.1 of the D-10/110 Editor: Print In TONE or PENV Edit modes, the "print" command prints out all the un-muted partials only. Timbre Tables and Rhythm Setups are printed in their entirety (4 and 2 pages respectively). Memory Protect The D-110's Memory Protect feature does not seem to work for MIDI dumps, as I had incorrectly assumed. Therefore, be extra careful if you've programmed something on front panel, until it is safely stored on disk or card. Also, if you have an MT-32, I suggest changing the D-110's default unit number to 18, as the D-110 will respond to MT-32 messages (although not always correctly). Parameter List Entry This feature lets you choose a parameter's value from a list. It's only available for two parameters: PCM wave number, and tone select number. Tone select appears in PATCH EDIT, TIMBRE TABLE, and RHYTHM EDIT modes. The dialog box for choosing a parameter has been changed slightly. There are now two buttons, MORE and EXIT. MORE lists additional choices (looping back to the first page when all choices have been displayed). EXIT brings you back to the normal edit screen. Choose a parameter value by clicking on it (the change is sent to the synth). Click on EXIT when you're done. Hint... If you don't hear anything when you play the mouse, check the current patch in PATCH EDIT mode. A part's MIDI channel may be off, or its key range may be limited. D-50 and MT-32 Conversion Programs D50ToD10 and M32ToD10 convert files created with other Caged Artist editing programs to the D-10/110 format. The conversion process is hampered by the fact that the built in PCM samples are different in each of these machines. The MT-32 is fairly similar - enough that most sounds convert well, with a little tweaking (usually to the coarse tuning). To use these programs: 1) If you're using multiple drives or a RAM disk or a hard drive, I suggest you copy the conversion program AND the INITBANK.D10 file to the same drive as the data (this makes it a bit easier to use) 2) Start the conversion program. 3) Select a file to convert (OK or Return). Then enter the file name for the output (OK or Return). If you have more files to convert, select YES and repeat until you've done them all. Mouse Scales Currently, the mouse can play in the following scales: 0) Chromatic 1) Major 2) Natural Minor 3) Harmonic Minor 4) Melodic Minor 5) Whole 6) Diminished 7) Pentatonic 8) Pentatonic Minor 9) Enigmatic 10) Neapolitan 11) Neapolitan Minor 12) Hungarian This is probably more than you need for an editing program. But if you enjoy playing the mouse as much as I do, this is sure to add to that enjoyment. Extra Parameters I have included the ability to edit the Rhythm Part fine tune and bend range parameters. These parameters are not loaded, stored, or sent with a patch, but they may be individually changed. There is no way to edit these parameters from the front panel of the instrument, but they do seem to work, so why not include them? Patch/Tone Interaction The Patch vs. Tone issue has been resolved as follows (this supercedes several comments in the manual): There is now a file (D10PRSET.PRE) which contains information on all the D10's presets. This file MUST be in the same directory as the program. It was decided that the 48K extra space was worth the extra convenience it buys. The program is now able to integrate Patch loading & editing with Tone loading & editing, without bi-directional MIDI communication, provided that the computer and the synth have at least the same internal tone data. When the program starts, it tries to upload the internal tone bank from the synth. If this isn't sucessfull, it loads the INITBANK and DEFAULT files from disk. This may not be exactly what you have in your synth, in which case you should either "get all" or "send all" to insure that the internal tone banks are identical. Once you have the computer and synth in sync, they will generally stay in sync. Tones are automatically loaded into the computer's tone edit buffers whenever a Patch is loaded, or its "tone select" parameter is altered. *** NOTE: Because of this automatic tone-loading, be sure to save your edited tones before making any changes to the current patch. If you accidentally over-write an edited tone, go to the TONE EDIT Mode and use "undo" to restore it. *** The current Patch is automatically edited when a tone is loaded from (or stored to) the INTERNAL MEMORY bank. This is nothing new, but it bears repeating. The PART SELECT Box has been updated. It is now the same for both BANK Modes. The information presented for each part is (left to right): part #, original location, edit marker, and name. The original location is "---" for tones loaded from the Auxilliary Bank, and "off" for tones that are disabled in the current patch. Tones AND Patches are immediately sent to the synth's internal memory if they are stored in the computer's INTERNAL MEMORY Bank. That's all, folks
