This ReadMe file contains information on the following topics: 1) Corrections to the Manual. 2) New features of Professional Draw not covered by the manual. 3) Installing Professional Draw on a Hard Disk system. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Corrections to the manual: ========================== P19 : In the middle of the page, when you are asked to select Fill from the Draw menu to create a filled object, you will not see the fill unless you have previously turned off the Wireframe option in the Preferences menu. P25 : In the second paragraph; to bring up the Fill Color requester you must select Attributes/Fill Color. The requester does not appear automatically. P27 : The finished TEXT Blend drawing may be found in: PDrawFonts:Tutorial/TEXTBlend.folio. P27 : You are asked to create the word "DINER" in the "Univers" font. Please change this to "Triumvirate". P27 : The finished Diner drawing may be found in: PDrawFonts:Tutorial/Diner.logo. P29 : The finished Clown drawing may be found in: PDrawFonts:Tutorial/Clown.pd, not in PDrawUtil:Tutorial/Clown.pd as stated in the manual. P38 : At the bottom of the page you are asked to set the line join type to "Angle". This should read "Miter". P39 : If your Amiga has only 1 MB of total memory (RAM), you may not have enough memory to print the Tutorial page. If this occurs, simply select the "Preferences/Black & White" menu Item. This will put Professional Draw into its Black and White mode, freeing up a large amount of memory. If you stiil don't have enough memory to print, you should select the Text tool and then click anywhere in the page. When the Text requester appears, select the "Purge" button and then answer "Yes" to the question which will be popped up. This will free up the memory used by any fonts you may previously have loaded. Even if you are able to print, you may be able to print more quickly by using the above tricks. P136: The default Fit parameter for the Trace program is is 1.5, not 1 as stated in the manual. P137: Trace will only handle BitMaps up to 1008 x 1008 in size. Additions to the manual: ======================== A new option, Preferences/Color Dither Mode, has been added to the Preferences menu. This option gives you control over the way colors appear on the screen in color, non-wireframe mode. Gold Disk's proprietary on-screen color dithering includes three different dither modes to suit different users' tastes. (A "dither mode" is just a way of showing color on the screen). Each of these will show about 1000 different colors on a high-resolution screen, but they differ in the amount of interlace flicker they produce, and in how good they look on a non-interlaced screen. Your choice of a dither mode only alters the appearance of the screen; it has no effect whatsoever on your printed output (either Postscript or dot-matrix). These different modes are recommended for the following situations: Smooth Gives excellent results if you have a flicker-free display, such as a MicroWays Flicker-Fixer or an Amiga 3000 with a VGA monitor. Non-Interlace This is the best choice if you are working in non-interlace mode. Flicker-Free Produces a virtually flicker-free display on an interlaced monitor, with only a minor loss of apparent resolution. Instructions for Installing Professional Draw V2.0 on a Hard Disk ================================================================= ********************************************************************** * * * To guard against damage to your diskettes, please write-protect * * them before proceeding. Move the small plastic slider so that * * light can be seen through the hole. * * * * If, while installing Professional Draw, you are told that one * * of the Professional Draw diskettes is write-protected, do not * * enable it. Instead, hit the CANCEL button on the requester, and * * do the installation from the CLI, as described below. * * * ********************************************************************** To install Professional Draw on your hard disk Version 1.3 or higher of the Workbench software must be installed on your Amiga in order for this installation procedure to work correctly. Many users can install Professional Draw in the SYS: partition of their hard disks. This is where the System, Utilities, Prefs, and other standard drawers can be found. If the Workbench only shows you one disk icon for your hard drive, then this is the place to install Professional Draw. Some users, however, will not have enough room in the SYS: partition. Owners of Amiga 2500's, especially, will likely have a very small boot partition and other, larger, partitions on which their programs and data files are stored. These users should install Professional Draw on one of their larger partitions. The Professional Draw files are not actually placed in the drawer you choose. Instead, a drawer called PDraw is created there, and the files are gathered together inside it. To install Professional Draw in the default (SYS:) partition From Workbench, double-click on the HDInstall icon in the HD drawer on the Professional Draw Fonts & Utilities diskette. From the CLI or Shell, insert the Professional Draw Fonts & Utilities diskette into one of the drives. Then type the following command: Execute PDrawFonts:HD/HDInstall To install Professional Draw in a different location First, look at the name of the partition you want to use. It must not contain any spaces. If the name does contain spaces, the installation will not work correctly. From Workbench, click once on the HDInstall icon. Then press either Shift key on the keyboard and, while holding down the Shift key, double-click on the drawer into which you want to install Professional Draw. From the CLI or Shell, insert the Professional Draw Fonts & Utilities diskette into one of the drives. Then type the following commands: CD RAM: Execute PDrawFonts:HD/HDInstall drive:directory You should replace the drive:directory part by the name of the part- ition, and the directory in that partition, where you want Profession- al Draw to be installed. Once you've started the installation procedure (however you do so), you will be asked whether you really want to install Professional Draw. This gives you a chance to back out if you made a typing mistake, for example. If you say No here, the installation will quit without changing your hard drive at all. Once you have told the installation to go ahead, it will perform a number of different steps. The following points summarize the steps of the installation. 1. A drawer called PDraw is created in the location you specified (or in SYS: if you didn't specify any location). This drawer will contain most (or all) of the Professional Draw files. 2. The Professional Draw program is copied into this new PDraw drawer, along with some other files needed by Professional Draw. 3. The Professional Draw fonts are copied into PDraw. 4a. If you are running Version 2.0 of the Amiga Operating System A script called PDrawStartup will be placed in your SYS:WBStartup drawer. This ensures that the Commands necessary for running Professional Draw are executed automatically each time you re-boot your computer. 4b. If you have Version 1.3 of the Amiga Operation system, a script called PDrawStartup will be placed in your S: directory. This contains some commands which must be executed before Professional Draw is started. You should edit the file S:startup-sequence, inserting the following line near the end, just before the EndCLI command: Execute S:PDrawStartup You can use the Notepad for this, as long as you're careful not to put in any font or styling changes. Alternatively, you can use either of the Ed or Edit commands. Examples execute PDrawFonts:HD/HDInstall This is the default. Professional Draw will be installed into a drawer called PDraw which will be located in the SYS: partition of your hard disk. execute PDrawFonts:HD/HDInstall dh3: This installs Professional Draw into the DH3: partition. The program will be installed into a drawer called dh3:PDraw. execute PDrawFonts:HD/HDInstall dh3:DTP This is almost the same as the above example. The only difference is that everything related to desktop publishing is collected together into a drawer called DTP. Professional Draw will be installed into a drawer called dh3:DTP/PDraw.
