Your Family Tree V2.2 Copyright 1992 MVP Software P.O. Box 458 Aliquippa, Pa 15001-0458 (412) 378-0411 October 12, 1992 Dear Your Family Tree User: Your Family Tree 2.2 has been fully tested with Workbench 2.04 and Kickstart 37.175 as well as Workbench 1.3. Besides the compatibility issues that have been addressed, we have also made some minor enhancements and improvements to YFT. NOTE: The data file structure has NOT been changed. No data conversion is necessary for data files created with YFT 2.0 or 2.1 to be used with YFT 2.2. Below are a few of the corrections/improvements that have been made, along with any known problems: When canceling an Add or Edit of a family record, YFT now asks "Are you sure you want to cancel?" to provide an escape in case CANCEL was accidentally selected. YFT now uses EDITOR and VIEWER environment variables. If an environment variable is defined (using the DOS SETENV command), YFT will use the defined editor/viewer. If the environment variable is not defined, then YFT will use its own built-in viewer and the editor that has been defined on the YFT Options Screen. When defining a viewer/editor you must include the full path and name of the viewer/editor. Example: SETENV EDITOR sys:tools/memacs Refer to your Amiga DOS manual for more information about the SETENV command. On Multi-Page Pedigree Charts, "Spouse of Person #1" did not always print the correct spouse. YFT would always print the first spouse of Person #1, even when a different spouse is included as part of the pedigree on the preceding chart. Version 2.2 of YFT will now print the correct spouse. YFT 2.2 now uses the standard Workbench 2.04 File Requester. Under WB 1.3 YFT will revert to it's own file requester. When children without known birthdates are entered/linked to families in the database, YFT will now sort them IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEY WERE ENTERED. List of Individuals by Surname or Reference ID now produces a list with the surnames lined up at column 12. Reference IDs are right-justified to column 10. YFT 2.2 now properly handles pictures with spaces in the filename. Under WB 2.04, the menu shortcut keys do not operate when the cursor is active in any of the data fields. This is caused by a change in the way Intuition (Workbench) processes the special menu keystrokes when the cursor is active. All gadgets (buttons) now have the "3-D Look" of WB 2.04, even when running under WB 1.3. When saving a file (.LST, .NOTE, .SRCH, etc.) under WB 2.04, the file requester colors are inversed as a visual signal that you are SAVING. Also, you cannot double click on a file in the list when saving. You MUST click on OK or SAVE to save the file using the selected filename. Under WB 2.04 the file requester will NOT automatically add the extension to a file (.LST .NOTE .SRCH etc). The file pattern is shown on the file requester, but you MUST TYPE the extension on the filename when you are saving. Descendant Chart will now truncate each line that would print past the right margin. This is most noticeable when using 10 cpi. It is best to use 17 cpi if you have long names and/or if you intend to print a chart more than 6 generations deep. The WB 2.04 File Requester will now center itself on the YFT window. Monthly List of Birthdates no longer crashes if there are more than 40 people with birthdates in a given month. Listing individuals by Birth, Death, etc will now put up the black "please wait" box while the individuals are being sorted. This bug was usually only noticeable with large data files. When entering dates, BEF is now equivalent to BFR. This will make YFT dates more compatible with other genealogy programs (through GEDCOM). YFT now uses that standard WB 2.04 busy pointer (the clock) and most animated busy pointer programs should also animate the YFT busy pointer. There have also been many minor fixes, mostly in the reports section. The YFT utilities package is progressing. Watch for announcements in genealogy and Amiga magazines and a direct mail offer when we begin to ship the new product. If you have any suggestions for improvements that you would like to see, feel free to contact MVP Software. A MAJOR upgrade to Your Family Tree is being planned for the future. This will include many new features and enhancements. We always welcome your ideas and comments to make YFT a more usable product. Thank You for using Your Family Tree, Michael A. Pasterik President
