HERMES' PROTeCTA (Version 1.0) Copyright (c) 1989 A. G. Kartsatos (Please See Below Distribution Requirements) Here is another utility program for my Amiga colleagues out there. This program allows you to set the Protection Bits and the Comment of a given file painlessly and ... pleasantly. This program is actually part of the new HERMES program called DISKoLAB. You can only run it from the CLI. It would actually be quite useless and ... lonely out there on your Workbench! To run it, just press: "RUN PROTeCTA" or just "PROTeCTA". If you attach a filename to the above, like: "RUN PROTeCTA SUGAR", the program will list the filename SUGAR in the FILE buffer and will also list the protection bits and the comment (if there is one) of the file. The protection bits are listed in the form of highlighted gadgets. If you want to change the protection bits and/or the comment of a given file, please do the following: (1) If the file is already in the FILE buffer, place the information into the window (click into the appropriate gadgets for the protection bits and/or enter the comment (filenote) into the COMMENT gadget). Then click into the DO IT gadget. (2) If the file is not already in the FILE buffer, just enter the file name into the FILE gadget and then press RETURN. The current file info for the file name entered will now appear in your window, and you can continue as above. The program will notify you if it cannot set the protection bits and/or the comment of the file. If the program SAYS NOTHING after you press DO IT, the desired info HAS BEEN SET. You can of course check that out by just clicking into the FILE buffer and then pressing RETURN. The CANCEL gadget returns to the original information for the given file. The EXIT gadget closes the window and ends PROTeCTA. I have tried to cover as many possibilities of ... misuse of the program as I could think of. You will most probably realise this fact when you make an error (e.g. if you try to list a file that does not exist). This is why some programs are longer than absolutely necessary. The programmer has to cover all those cases of possible error. Well, have fun my friends. @@-->>> HERMES FOR SUPPORT, write to: A. G.
