Jazzing Things Up There are a number of things you can do using the programs available for your Amiga - you can add text, distort images, it's really quite extensive. We specifically suggest that you obtain the following programs for your Amiga - these are, in our opinion, the absolute best of those that are available for the machine. They are listed in the order of importance to you - That is, we think you should get the first one in the list first, and the last one last, and then any other program you may have recommended to you: Photon Paint: MicroIllusions, Inc Absolutely the BEST HAM-mode paint program around, at any price. Compared against: Digi-Paint - good, but not AS good. Deluxe Photo Lab - not as complete, and feature-poor DPaint II: Electronic Arts The best general purpose paint program for non-ham modes. Compared against: Express Paint - also good, but VERY klunky to use. Aegis Images - Fair Graphicraft - Absolute minimum.... Yech! Butcher: Eagle Tree Software One of two (the other is listed next) WONDERFUL programs that are specifically designed to "process images". What does that mean? It means that many of the techniques developed for use in the space program can be utilized in your Amiga system. Image smoothing, contour mapping, histograms, you name it - tons of neat stuff. PixMate: Progressive Peripherals and Software Just like Butcher, and listed after butcher only because it's slightly more expensive. Except... well, it's NOT just like butcher - they both do things the other won't, and you should get them both, if you can. AVT Goodies Within the AVT system there are several simple things you can do to enhance images, and these are detailed in the file "ImageProcessing.doc" so we won't repeat them here. Additional operations include generating a nice general purpose color bar, which is done by simply pressing the color bar button at the lower left of he control panel. You can add color bars and grey scales to either the top or the bottom of an image by pressing one of these two buttons, located at the bottom center of the control panel. Press the "H" or the "L" buttons to see the results - they do NOT automatically redisplay the images. Also, you need to keep in mind that both the color bar and grey scale generators pay attention to what mode you are in; If you are in a low resolution Robot mode, then images are defined as 120 lines total. Accordingly, the scales/bars are placed from line 112 to line 119 in the image. If you are in a Robot Hi-res mode, then images are defined as 240 lines total. The bars are placed at lines 232-239. If you are in a standard mode, then images are defined as 128 lines total, and the bars are placed in lines 120-127. Finally, in std hi-res, the bars are placed at lines 248-255. You control whether the bars are placed at the top or bottom of the image by pressing the blue arrow button just above the bars themselves. The arrow points at the edge of the image where the bars will be placed.
