But, New York City looks like very very old except the World Trade Center building (The World's tallest building)... On Saturday at 5 am, my friends and I left from Gallaudet for visiting World of Amiga in New York City. We took the Baltimore-Washington parkway to Baltimore. We took a exit to I-895 to tunnel. When we reached the tunnel, one of my friends who drove his car paid one dollar to toll. We went under sea by the tunnel. After crossing the large river, there was another toll gate, he paid it again. After reaching Delaware, there still was another toll gate, he paid it again. We stopped at the Bob's boy restaurtant on the Delaware Turnpike and took restroom. Before crossing the another river, there was bridge toll gate, he paid 75 cents for it. After we reached New Jersey, we stopped at the restaurtant and ate breaksfast. Before reaching New York City, I could see the World Trade Center building from NJ Turnpike (5 miles away). At Exit 14, we took the turnpike extenstion to Exit 14C. At the turnpike toll, he paid 2.60. When entering the city, there was the tunnel toll gate (Holland Tunnel), he paid three dollars. We entered the tunnel undersea. After exiting the tunnel, there was downtown in New York! We finally reached it!! I saw the many poor buildings. I discovered that New York City is too ugly. Yes, it is worse than Washington, DC. I smell awful because it was so so dirty pollution!! My friends stopped the VCR store to drop his order for shipping new VCR to his home. Then, we looked for the Passenger Ship Terminal. He asked some local people but they do not know that. After reached the the bay and we found the Passenger Ship Terminal with "World of Amiga" sign on it. There was another parking toll, he paid 12.00 for parking less than 10 hours. There are so many stupid tolls that we encountered. At World of Amiga, we arrived at the registration booth and filled my registration card. I handed it out and paid it to cashier. She handed me out a ticket. At entering the show, I showed it to the gatekeeper and he stamped Commodore Logo on my right hand and let me go in the show. I saw Amiga 3000 show at Commodore booth. I took a look on it and really like it. Around the show, I collected many ads from many booths include hard drive information for my good friend. I bought Arexx language from one of booths. I tried to buy T.A.C.L (The Adventure Construction Language) but the salesman need 5 percent surcharge for my credit card. Then I changed my mind and did not buy it yet. At COMPUTE! booth, I registered my new subscription to Amiga Resource magazine with disk option for discounted offer and bought "Mapping The Amiga" book with discounting offer. I decided to break for my rest and went to the eat area. After finished to eat lunch, I returned to the show and continued to browsed around the show. After 3:45 pm, we left the World of Amiga and headed to the World Trade Center building for the deck observation. At the World Trade Center, we arrived at the world's tallest twin building. At the ticket counter, I paid the ticket for 3.50 dollars. I was in 45-minute line. I finally enter the high-speed elevator to 107th floor. Its door closed slidely and the room raised very quickly. Within a minute, it reached the 107th floor. I felt like riding in the rocket because its speed is 1,600 feet per minute!! I observed the entire New York City for several minutes. I returned to the elevator to the 1st floor. I entered it and it dropped to 1st floor very quickly. I thought that its rope broke!! Reaching the 1st floor, the elevator stopped sharply. I felt like flatten! Now, we left the city for home. Before entering the Holland Tunnel, there was traffic jam in the tunnel. After exiting the tunnel, we freed from this and entered into the NJ Turnpike. Returning to NJ turnpike from NY City are free but entering NY City, pay three dollars. We looked for the better restaurtant from middle of New Jersey to middle of Maryland. In Maryland, we finally found the right restaurtant, Bonoza. Then Friday at 6 am, we, the gang from Software Link, went down to the World Of Amiga and set up our booth and laid out all the software. I then decided to set-up a midi display with an Amiga 500 and some synthesizers, after all we were across from Dr. T's and we wanted to dress to impress. At 9:15 am, we were set up and ready or at least I was and I went over to see the NewTek Spokesmodel, oh boy! Then I looked at the toaster demo, was impressed, and then depressed. You need to have a time-based corrected input into the toaster in order for it to work, and those cost $2000.00 + 2500/30 + Toaster !?!?! What do you put in a Toaster??? Too much Bread!! :) Then I went and played on the 3000 and liked it alot. The store should get it's today and we will set it up then. But, to bring this long winded append to a close, I stood for 10 hours on a sheet rock floor on Fri. and on Sat., I stood for 10 hours then packed up the software for 4 hours and then loaded a van for an hour and THEN had to endure a van ride back to White Plains only to unload the van. Arrrrrgh! All that just to let people know that Westchester's Largerst Amiga Dealer had moved. Jeezsh! My problems were resolved when I stopped using MNP error correction on the modem. It seems our system here didn't like MNP, but whether that was due to the IBM mainframe or something else in the link I'm not sure. I also do Kermit with a number of VAXen on the same LAN as the IBM, and if I remember well I use MNP with them. I just received a 386SX with 4 meg and 'os/2' extended version 1.1. I cannot get any communications to work yet. MS/DOS communications don't work in their "compatibility box". The os takes up 2 megabytes just by itself. The "workbench" is not quite as friendly or flexible as our favorite workbench. It makes me wish that 123/G and a better WP would come out for the Amiga, and then the Amiga would have what I would call "The REAL OS/2". Software instalation (at least for communications manager and Lotus 123 V3) is not as hasy as it is for the Amiga. I have at the moment, both a NTSC and a PAL amiga. The NTSC is running off of a converted power supply , and is driving through a NTSC monitor.. The PAL is running off a PAL monitor, and the graphix quality is good on the PAL, and lousy on the NTSC, and this lead me to wnder, what is going on here ??? Ok, so the NTSC machine updates it's screen at 60hz vs 50hz on the PAL machine. The NTSC processor clock i suppose must run at a faster rate, as it is a multiple of the colour clock, and that has speeded up on the NTSC machine. Now, so the DMA's to display the screen data are running faster, to get the info for a screen line (same as a PAL amiga) onto the screen at the faster refresh rate, so the dma's for, say the disk drive are running faster, as they are inter-leaved with the display DMA's (and sound DMA's). So does this mean: a) The main processor on the NTSC Amiga is running faster. b) Any sound samples played normally on a PAL MAchine will come out at a faster rate on the NTSC machine, and so will sound wrong.. c) The disk drive on the NTSC machine will load faster, as the DMA's are faster. Does this imply the drive on a NTSC Amiga spins at a faster rate than on a PAL amiga ??? d) Does the processor end up with more or less free time due to the faster processor clock ( pressuming it has one) ?? As an NTSC screen has 200 lines not 256 lines down it, does the extra DMA time slow the processor down... This may all sound very confusing, and your right, it is, as i am very confused by it, but i am wondering about this... I have been involved with a bit of software designed specifically for a PAL amiga, and when run of the NTSC machine, the sound is faster - I am not sure about the samples, but the time is increased as it is getting triggered at 60 not 50 hz.. MAkes sort of sense...
