Space Station Construction Kit with Shuttle presented by QUARTEX! So, you're tired of waiting for NASA to build a space station and have decided to make your own? This is a good place to start. Included on this disk are all the objects you need to create a space station of your own--its layout and size limited only by your imagination and available RAM. The following is a description of what you will find on this diskette. To load these objects into Sculpt-Animate 3D, use either LOAD SCENE or LOAD OBJECT. In the "drawer" slot of the file requester, type the name of this disk followed by the name of the directory you want. For example, "Space_Station:Parts". Select the object you want from the list of files that will appear. This diskette contains several directories at the top level: Parts/ This directory contains individual Named Objects. These may be read into Sculpt-Animate hierarchies as named objects, or loaded individually by Sculpt 3D. 1. Array1.scene is a model for a large rectangular solar cell array. 2. LatticeCell.scene is a segment (cell) of the metal structure used in the planned NASA station. This object should be used sparingly since it requires quite a bit of memory for each copy. To build a column of lattice segments it is easiest to read one copy in fromdisk, select it, and then, placing the cursor at the left or right edge of the cell, perform an Edit Do Reflect command. Repeated selection and reflection can be used to create a column of any length (limited by RAM of course!). 3. LatticeJoiner.scene is used in the NASA type station to tie together two columns where one can be rotated with respect to the other. 4. SolidCell.scene is used similar to the LatticeCell.scene, but has 4 solid sides. 5. Fullboom.scene is an object created from the combination of other objects. It represents the main boom of the NASA type station and is made up of reflected LatticeCells, LatticeJoiners, and Array1 found in this directory. To view the hierarchy of the object (the individual pieces) use the Edit Selected Named Vertices command. This object requires at least 1.5Meg of RAM For rendering. 6. Module.scene is a cylindrical living/working module with docking ports at each end. 7. ModuleJoiner.scene is a cylindrical living module whose primary purpose is to link (join) together other living modules or a shuttle or anything else that comes to mind. It has docking ports at each end and four around the middle. 8. Sat1.scene is a satellite with a parabolic antenna and two arrays. 9. Telescope.scene is a space telescope with two arrays. Shuttle/ This directory contains one Named Object. This may be read into Sculpt- Animate hierarchies as Named Objects, or loaded individually by Sculpt 3D. 1. Orbiter.scene is made up of three sub-objects: the body, door1, and door2. The doors can be opened and closed by using Edit Do Select Named Vertices command, traversing the hierarchy of names in the select gadget, and selecting one of the doors. Now that one door is selected the cursor should be moved in the Tri-View window to the point where the door meets the orbiter. You can then use the rotate gadgets in the window to open or close the door. If you are planning to use the shuttle with doors closed, better results can be obtained if the doors are removed by doing a Edit Select Named Verticies and an Edit Erase and then with the Edit Color set to full white, Edit Smoothing ON, and Edit Texture set to SHINEY, connect the verticies at each end of the cargo bay with edges thus creating a completely closed cargo bay. Animations/ This directory contains example takes and global scenes that employ the objects on this disk. 1. NASA&Shuttle.g.scene is a full scale NASA type space station with shuttle that requires at least 1.5 Meg to render. 2. LowRAMNASA.g.scene is a scaled down version without the shuttle that requires at least 1.5 Meg to render. 3. Orbiter.g.scene is the space shuttle which require at least 1 Meg to render. Notes: If you create a scene but don't have enough RAM to render it, your local dealer may have a machine that does, and may be willing to allow rendering after shop hours (never hurts to ask). Use your imagination. Instead of using a large number of extremely detailed objects and running out of RAM, use just a few objects and some creativity. Sometimes simple and imaganitive is the best approach (unless you have 8 Megs of RAM, in which case you can ignore the preceeding message). Above all else, enjoy!
