WHAT THE PAPERS SAY. Yes,in this regular (I Hope!!) feature of the Update I will be taking a look at the popular computing press and commenting on anything of interest they have to say.I'd also like to feature any cock-ups,lies, and obvious favouritsm (either to software houses or advertisers) so If you spot anything you think is wothy of a mention PLEASE send it in. I'll start with Amiga User International and their great piece on STREET FIGHTER.Now anyone who has seen this game will know just how bad it is,(Those who haven't seen it,don't worry you're not missing much) In my opinion it is the WORST game for the Amiga in a long time,but just listen to what AU had to say.... ".....makes extensive use of the blitter.... definately the hottest arcade conversion on the Amiga.." WHAT!!! Can they be serious? Frankly I doubt whether Tiertex (they did the Amiga version) know what the Blitter is,this game is the PITS and the PRESS should be there to tell us these things to stop the buying public from being CONNED and RIPPED OFF.U.S Gold must be laughing, they've managed to get good plugs in several mags and release the game before a review has been seen anywhere. <*> Seeing as though AMIGA COMPUTING also featured a similar piece about the same game it raises the Question as to if the magazines have actually seen the game in action? Very doubtful,it is much more likely to be the result of either a very good (but false) Press Release or a rather large meal and a couple of pints.... Luckily Commodore User had the sense to give it the sort of review this game deserves and gave it 4 out of 10 (mind you thats 3 too many in my books) Moving on,Good news for Games Freaks as Focus Publishing launch a new weekly mag covering the entertainment side of things.Popular Computing Weekly will still be covering Games but stick mainly to the serious side while the new mag named COMPUTER GAMESWEEK will be soley games orientated The first few issues have been quite interesting and worth a read for Amiga owners as they've had quite a few hot exclusives to rave about. KATAKIS sprung up from nowhere to get game of the Week and they also recently featured the New Cinemare Games ,The American Football One looks really good.Looks like Focus pulled a fast one over their competetors to bring you all this hot stuff.Only time will tell ,but I wish them the best of luck. <*> <<*>> Sticking with the same issue of PCW (8-14 Sept) why not take a look at our advert on page 48.National Fame for me at last!! Yep,2 of my quotes printed , but seeing as one of them was written during one of my particularly `uncouth' times I haven't been able to fully cash in on my success.Well you cant really show something like that to your mother can you! If you want to know what the **'s mean then tough cause I ain't tellin! Mind you they were genuine comments sent to 17-Bit before I left my last job to join the team. Staying with Focus we take a look at the recent Popular Computing Weekly which featured quite an interesting article on the Subject of Software Piracy.The Amiga has been hit hard by Pirates and it was good to see they mentioned the downfall of Amiga `Cracking crew' The Kent Team..The rest of the article (which took up a whole page) went on to give details of Bob Hay & the rest of FAST's fight against the pirates. <*> The summers finally over and as we step into Autumn it means just one thing for the Computer Fanatic ,Yes it's showtime again and the mags like to go overboard with supplements/previews/reviews/floorplans/afterthoughts etc etc Still it all makes good reading especially if you cant make it to the show.(We all went down on the Sunday - Maybe you saw us there?)I thought The Games Machine did quite a good supplement in a recent issue although the line in the smallprint ..." Opinions expressed in PC showcase are not neccessarily those of the magazines..."Seems to mean that the articles about the exhibitors were little more than small pieces of self-propaganda dreamt up by the relevant company.It would have been nice to see an independant view,But these will probably appear after the razzmatazz has died down.After all the idea of these previews is to get you to the show not to stop you from going!!
