E D I T O R I A L Ah its that time again when I get chance to ramble on about nothing really important so here goes... First of all a big thank you to Gary Whitta and all the guys at 'THE ONE' for a GREAT article on our PD service, we couldnt have asked for better coverage and we are deeply grateful for the chance to supply THE ONE with demos. If you have not yet seen 'THE ONE' it is the latest magazine for 16 Bit users and features in depth reviews for all of the latest releases and previews of some of the goodies to come. It also features programmer interviews, news and hints sections and also a DEMO section which features the No.1 Pd supplier! People who have read C&VG and ZZAP 64 will enjoy the magazine as it is in a very informal, relaxed style that is very enjoyable to read. I cant see it appealing to the more discerning 16 bit users but we like it and can see it becoming a HUGE success, by the way there's even a free disk with the first issue which was launched at the show featuring a demo of Fusion on the Amiga. 'THE ONE' costs just 1.50 which is quite cheap by todays 16bit mag standard - and they dont talk rubbish! <*>More Right! Got that off my chest, you know we dont push rubbish so it comes highly reccomended! Previously we had a very high regard for Amiga User but that was tarnished by the lack lustre bits about Streetfighter, which we have made a considerable amount of fuss about. Talking of the PCW show (I was wasnt I ?) I was down there yesterday (Wednesday 14th) and wandered about all day glaring at stands like club 68000, ICPUG etc and was a little disapointed at what I saw, personally I think that the whole point of a show is to SHOW things and not just sit like a zombie flogging cheapo software, anyone can do that - but dont expect us to! If you're coming to the next Commodore show then forget any inclination of coming to our stand to buy software at silly knock-down prices - thats not what we're into - I arent quite sure just WHAT we'll be doing yet but rest assured we wont let you down! Bring your friends too (Nearly said MATES then!) as Im sure well be able to offer a substantial membership offer that will be UNBEATABLE by ANYONE! Dont forget that we are still on the lookout for decent original demos/artwork etc for display at the show - GET WORKING! <*>More We really had TOO MUCH material to put on this update and we still try to compact stuff as much as possible but we keep running out of space (any ideas ?) so the next update shouldnt take that long to produce. We will be including a few basic programs written by members and welcome any that anybody else may care to send in! (Thanks Dave Rollinson for getting things underway). The amount of mail and feedback form issue three was phenominal I can only apologise for not responding to EVERY letter there were just too many for me to handle! The GPO strike and us uprooting to new offices hardly helped neither. Now we have a new member of staff, Dave Clegg who used to be a 17 Bit member and infact have quoted him in our ads (hes the one who swears alot) - he used to work in a bank but now hes got freedom to express himself and is a total Amiga - if you wanna write to him, just mark it for the attention of Dave and he'll sort it out. Obviously Daves here to take some of the wait off my shoulders as far as letter writing and articles are concerned but it leaves me free to do the updates and the discs. <*>More Quite a few people have commented as to the 'toning down' of our update especially in the context of our articles, well we did have a number of well, suggestions (not complaints!) that we should remember that younger people do read this and the last thing we want is to upset people and cause offence so we obliged - as one member said he doesnt want to have to censor the update for his younger son who loves reading it! Let me know your views on this. The moisty bit was missing last month because of the above reasons and a moisty bit is not much of a moisty bit without at least some distasteful material. For those who didnt see Update 2 - the moisty bit was a hidden article (not hidden very well I might add) with a few of my own comments on and I got a little over zealous (carried-away for all the sun readers). Moisty Bit may appear next month if theres sufficient demand so the balls in your court (calm down sun readers!). The PCW show was fun and read the report elsewhere for full details (although it will be more fun when a load of us go down on Sunday!) <*>More Im sad to see that KATAKIS (the brill looking RTYPE clone) has been withdrawn due to Activision (Or Mediagenic as they call themselves now) slapping a writ on it! Course they havent copied RTYPE ... Would they ? Rainbow Arts dont do that, THUNDERBOY wasnt a rip-off of WONDERBOY, GARRISON wasnt a rip-off of GAUNTLET and GREAT GIANA SISTERS wasnt a copy of SUPER MARIO BROTHERS. Anyway - a great shame as I was looking forward to playing it! (Besides Rainbow Arts dont port games!) If you think I have been a little sarcastic in the above paragraph you could well be right. This update features some great Fantavsion demos which can be edited in Fantavavision (including our intro) and also some fine music created by a dutchmen - not content with winning the European championship they're even writing the best music! Also included are the questionaire results and most people will have realised that we're still using Notepad, but we have compromised by using a smaller font thats readable on a TV and just using one page of text at a time without the need for scrolling down the page. Notepad is easy to print out (driver on this disk for standard printers) and easy to use - so NO MORE LETTERS ABOUT IT! <*>More Next issue we'll be featuring members problems (of the computing variety) and articles on 'how to do...' things which we have been asked to do - so if theres anything you'ld like to know and would think others may want to know, just drop us a line and well see what we can sort out... On this issue we've also put a document thats half finished! On purpose of course - its for you..oooo! Yes, just write any comment you like, or even a review and then we can read it when you return your disk for update (just warn us theres something on though!). Dont forget to save it though! Another option we are giving you is the option of 'buying' update issues rather than having to return the disk back, quite a number of people have asked about this and we have come up with the following... If you would like us to send you the update without you having to return the disk (ie you keep it - its yours!!) the price would be 1.50 per issue and you can place advance orders!! (eg order the next three) This offer is for club members ONLY.<*>More As far as the PD front goes we have not added quite so many as we did last month and will take it a bit steady from now on! 59 was just a little bit too many for quite a few of our members to handle! Anyway more utility discs this month as promised. Dont forget we supply the complete fish range (except for 3 withdrawn disks) and this catalogue is available on disc form for just a pound to existing members. With both our range and the fish discs we have over 300 discs of Amiga Pd alone, with virtually every topic covered. This month another fine role-playing-game has been added to the library - MORIA but dont think about playing it unless you've at least 1meg of RAM on board. Its a bit like HACK (disk 24) but much better and more complicated, it features small graphics but vast gameplay. DIGI VIEW TIME.... Yes! We have now managed to get digi-view working! It must be the new office... We will be producing a demo disk that features examples of what we can digitise, size and resolution modes available - check out the PD library for details, anyone who orders this PD disk will receive a 1 pound reduction from any subsequent digi-view order. The disc will detail costs and show examples of what WE have done - and could do for YOU. <*>More So I think thats about everything, read the questionaire to see what everyone else thought of the previous update - I wonder what the reaction to this one will be.
