InterFont v1.2 February 19, 1990 Addendum to InterFont Designer manual 1. Coordinates The Preferences menu section contains an item called Coordinates. This can be turned ON or OFF. When Coordinates is ON, X and Y values will be displayed on the upper right corner of the screen. These values are in character points or fatbits. Fatbits are explained in the printed manual. For example, if you are displaying Topaz 9, the Y value will range from 0 to 9. The space between whole points is displayed in thousandths of a point. When Coordinates is ON, coordinate values will be displayed only when a point is clicked or dragged in Edit Mode, or dragged in Trace Mode. 2. Crossed and touching polygons Be sure to read the section in the manual covering crossed polygons and polygons that touch themselves. 3. Width of characters InterFont gets all of the character information from the original Amiga font that was loaded. Some characters in Amiga fonts have a width of zero. This effectively means that nothing can be entered for the character. The dotted line bounding box will be all the way to the left. If you try to add a polygon, it will be snapped to a line. When this polygon is read in by the InterFont Conversion Module, if Clip is ON, the polygon will be discarded. We do not recommend using any zero width characters for storing polygons. 4. Changing the FONTS: assignment with NEW FONTS: gadget The Amiga system looks for fonts in a drawer or disk that has had the name FONTS: assigned to it. If you would like InterFont to change where it is looking for fonts, you will need to use an assignment program such as FontAssign, the Assign command from the CLI, or the NEW FONTS: gadget on the Amiga Font Requester in InterFont. If you choose to use the NEW FONTS: gadget, you will get the best results by not changing any disks until you are in the NEW FONTS: Requester. For example, suppose you have a Kara Fonts disk you would like to use. Choose Load Amiga Font from the Project menu. This will bring up the Amiga Font Requester. The fonts in your current FONTS: assignment will be displayed. On many systems this will be the Workbench fonts. Now click on the NEW FONTS: gadget. This will bring up the NEW FONTS: Requester. Once this Requester has stopped reading, insert the Kara Fonts disk. Enter the disk (such as DF1:) in the Disk Gadget, and the drawer 'FONTS' in the Drawer Gadget. InterFont will begin reading this new disk. You will see the names of the fonts being displayed. If you do not see names of fonts, you have incorrectly entered the disk and drawer. Click on OK to tell InterFont that this is the correct place to look for fonts. This will return you to the Amiga Fonts Gadget. The fonts from the Kara Fonts disk will now be read into the Amiga Fonts Requester. From here you can click on the Amiga bitmap font you wish to load. InterFont will continue to look on this new disk for fonts each time you choose Load Amiga Font from the menu until you either change the assignment, or exit InterFont. Exiting InterFont always returns the FONTS: assignment to where it was when InterFont was started. 5. Using Professional Page with InterFont When drawings are loaded into a box in Professional Page, they are scaled to fit the box. This means that the top and right sides of the box will be right up against the drawing and will cut off the drawing when the page is output to Postscript. To correct this, simply drag out the top and right edges of the box out a small amount after loading the drawing into the box. Or, double-click on the box and change the Offset amount to a value such as 0.01 instead of 0. If you use Professional Page, be sure to see the programs in the drawer PPage_FontFix. There is a public domain program which will correct the fonts that come with Professional Page so that they can be loaded into InterFont. Some of the Professional Page fonts are not legal Amiga bitmap fonts. You may have noticed that some of these fonts will not load correctly into DeluxePaint, too. Many will load fine without using this program, but some, such as Symbol, have illegal values which will cause yucky things to happen when they are loaded into InterFont or DeluxePaint. Also in this drawer is a program called "MathOpen" which you will need to run if you intend to use InterFont after running Professional Page. There is additional documentation for MathOpen in the PPage_FontFix drawer. Please read the documentation for both of these programs in the PPage_FontFix drawer. Addendum to the Sculpt manual: One recent version of Sculpt 4D adds "CSG" spheres. These are shown as triangulated spheres in the Sculpt Tri-View. They are not translated as mathematical spheres to other programs, such as Turbo Silver.
