@{b}General warnings@{ub}

It is suggested that you make a backup of (the unedited versions of) your
files before using the editor.
  If you want to save the changes you have made, you must do so explicitly
(eg. via the toolbar or menu).
  It is not necessarily safe to set certain attributes to the maximum
allowed by the editor, as not every attribute has been exhaustively tested
for its allowable range. Also, the editor will allow you to set eg. your
current hit points to be higher than your maximum hit points, but doing
this is not recommended.
  Different game versions might use different file formats which may not
be compatible with the editor.
  Files which you have previously hacked by hand might not be safe to load
into the game and/or editor.
@endnode

@node Requ "System Requirements"

@{b}Hardware@{ub}         Required        MC68020+
                                 about 2Mb free RAM
                 Recommended     1024*768 or higher Workbench
@{b}Firmware@{ub}         Required        Kickstart 3.1+
@{b}Software@{ub} Required AmigaOS 3.9 with Boing Bag 1 (at least)
                 Recommended     OpenURL.library (if OS < 4.1.1)
                                 TCP/IP stack

This program does not operate under the "AmigaOS 3.x" provided by Cloanto
in eg. the Amiga Forever 6.0 package, as it requires OS3.9+BB1 (or later)
versions of certain ReAction gadgets. The versions included in "AmigaOS
3.x" are obsolete and will not work. We suggest asking Cloanto for the
real OS3.9 which you have paid them for and which they have not supplied
to you, rather than a crippled version of OS3.5 which is basically what
their "AmigaOS 3.x" is.

If you have the Amiga Image Storage System (AISS) installed, you can
delete the images/aiss/ subdirectory.

For MorphOS users:

You need the appropriate ClassAct/ReAction classes (eg. window.class,
speedbar.gadget, etc.) installed. You can get these classes at
http://amigan.1emu.net/releases/RA-MOS.lha . Those files are sourced from
AmigaOS 3.9+BB2, except that window.class V42.84 is provided instead of
V45.16. This is because MorphOS is incompatible with window.class 45.16:
opening it will cause a hang. Simply copy these ReAction classes into
SYS:Classes/ . Although they are compiled for 68020, they will work under
MorphOS.

@node BTCE "Bard's Tale 1-3 & Construction Set"

The program autodetects the type of file being opened.
  The program allows considerable freedom to make alterations to the
characters; thus, discretion is advised. Don't forget to save your
character before quitting the program if you want to keep the changes
you have made.
  The checkboxes indicate whether the relevant item is "equipped" or not.
Next to each checkbox is an integer gadget which stores the quantity of
that item. 255 is a magic number meaning "unlimited". The ellipses (...)
when clicked will bring up a subwindow allowing you to change which item
is stored in that slot. If a particular item is not available in that
game, it will be shown in white.
  Values which can't be displayed by the game, eg. ST of 100 or more, are
shown in the game as asterisks (eg. "**"), "WOW", or similar. They still
work normally even if displayed in this manner.

BT2 Notes:

Images are used only for monsters/illusions.
Items can be carried by anyone.

BT3 Notes:

The ROSTER.CHR file is what is edited.
The sample scenario (Starlight Festival) is assumed, as far as items are
concerned.

@node Bloodwych "Bloodwych"

Low armour classes are better than high ones.
  This editor has only been designed for and tested with the original
Bloodwych; it may or may not work with the expansion(s). Please advise us
of your results.
@endnode

@node ChambersOfShaolin "Chambers of Shaolin"

This editor is designed for the WHDLoad version (V1.1 was tested). The
floppy version seems to use a different format.
  There is a confirmed bug in that slave, in that only the first character
"slot" can be used. Therefore, this editor only supports editing the first
character slot. Hopefully, that bug will be fixed soon.
@endnode

@node ChampionsOfKrynn "Champions Of Krynn"

Note that viewing/editing of items is not currently supported.
  Also note that characters are what is edited (not saved games).
@endnode

@node COVCE "Citadel of Vras"

The game detects attempts to alter certain fields and will quit in such
situations. Therefore those fields are read-only in the editor, for now at
least. You can freely teleport around, change your inventory, etc. Eg. you
can give yourself expensive items and then teleport to the shop
(coordinates 6,3,1) to sell them.

There is a HD-installed version of this game, and maps of it, at
http://amigan.1emu.net/aw/ .
@endnode

@node DWCE "Demon's Winter"

The program allows considerable freedom to make alterations to the
characters; thus, discretion is advised. Don't forget to save your
character before quitting the program if you want to keep the changes
you have made.
  The checkboxes indicate whether the relevant item is "equipped" or not.

Turning on the trainer allows these cheats during the game:

    ARROW KEYS____Move very fast over any terrain.
    'B'__________________________Summon gold swan.
    'R'___________________________Rescue princess.
    '='_______________________Display coordinates.
    'F9'________________Increase time by one hour.
    'F10'_________________Location in coordinates.
@endnode

@node DragonWars "Dragon Wars"

Blank (empty) character and item names seem to indicate to the game that
the character or item in question does not exist (ie. that the slot is
unused). Editing nonexistent characters/items to "create" new characters/
items is untested and might be problematic.
  The checkboxes next to the item names are for whether the item is
"equipped" or not.
  Editing item names does not change the actual characteristics of the
items.
  "Min" indicates the minimum strength/dexterity/etc. required to use the
item.
@endnode

@node HCE "Hillsfar"

Since the Curse of the Azure Bonds game supports importing (and exporting)
characters from (and to) Hillsfar, it can also be useful for that game.
  The program allows considerable freedom to make alterations to the
characters; thus, discretion is advised. Don't forget to save your
character before quitting the program if you want to keep the changes you
have made.
  Usage is reasonably straightforward. You must supply an existing
character file (#?.HIL) from Hillsfar for editing (an example file is
provided). Note that you should use a filename which is no more than 8
characters, not including the ".HIL" extension, otherwise the game will
not be able to load the character. (The convention used by the game is to
use the first 8 characters of the character name, but this is not
strictly required.)
  When playing Hillsfar, you can press 'F' to force locks. Also, there is
a map available from the site.
@endnode

@node LegendOfFaerghail "Legend of Faerghail"

The supported version of the game is V2.0e.
  Do not leave any empty item slots between your items.
  The checkboxes indicate whether the relevant item is "equipped" or not.
  The character roster is what is edited (not saved games).
@endnode

@node Might&Magic2 "Might & Magic 2"

Characters 1-24 are normal characters; characters 25-48 are hirelings.
  Note that the contents of the Spellbook list are dependent on the
character's class. This is by design. (Clerics and sorcerers have separate
spell lists, and other classes have no spells.)
@endnode

@node NCE "Neuromancer"

Ticked body parts indicate an original (good) body part. Unticked body
parts indicate a replacement (bad) body part.
@endnode

@node PCE "Phantasie 1 & 3"

The program allows considerable freedom to make alterations to the
characters; thus, discretion is advised. Don't forget to save your
character before quitting the program if you want to keep the changes
you have made.
  The ellipses (...) when clicked will bring up a subwindow allowing you
to change which item is stored in that slot. Unavailable choices are shown
in white.
  Usage is reasonably straightforward. You must supply an existing
character roster file from either Phantasie 1 (GUILD.DAT) or Phantasie 3
(GAMESAVE.DAT) for editing. It is unfortunately not possible to convert
characters between the two games using this editor (although note that it
is possible to use the Phantasie 3 game to convert (transfer) characters
from Phantasie 1 to Phantasie 3).

Phantasie 1 notes:
  It is unfortunately not possible to edit potions, scrolls or treasures.
  The 'purged' flag is set by the game when a character is deleted; ie. it
is possible to 'undelete' a character by unchecking the checkbox.

Phantasie 3 notes:
  Character slots #1-#25 are the main roster of guild members. Character
slots #26-#32 are the seven party members. It is best to drop characters
from the party first (Guild|Drop Member in the game) before editing them,
as the game seems to use some stats from the roster slot and some stats
from the party slot.
  No character may know more than 32 spells; this is a limit imposed by
the file format itself.
  Unfortunately the 'purged' flag is not editable (or viewable, for that
matter). Therefore, you should not try to create new characters with the
editor; you should instead create them within the game and then use the
editor.
@endnode

@node Pirates "Pirates!"

Currently, only Pirates! is supported, not Pirates! Gold.
  Making changes to your cargo (food, etc.) or ships should be done with
caution, as it can cause encumbrance-related issues.
@endnode

@node PoolOfRadiance "Pool of Radiance"

It is easy to cause overflow of in-game amounts (eg. damage inflicted),
so be conservative with your editing.
  Editing of your portrait and of your "icon" is MCE is unnecessary and
therefore not implemented. (You can freely edit these in-game while
encamped.)
  Note that viewing/editing of items is not currently supported.
  Also note that characters are what is edited (not saved games).
@endnode

@node Q2CE "Questron 2"

The program allows considerable freedom to make alterations to the
characters; thus, discretion is advised. Carrying all/nearly all weapons +
armour + items can cause rendering problems in the game. Don't forget to
save your character before quitting the program if you want to keep the
changes you have made.
  Usage is reasonably straightforward. You must supply an existing
character file (G0-G7) from Questron 2 for editing. The NAMES file is also
updated appropriately when saving, if it can be found in the same
directory as the character file (G0-G7), which is normally the case.
@endnode

@node Shadowlands "Shadowlands"

This editor is intended to be used with (V1.6 of) the WHDLoad slave.
  Viewing/editing of items, faces, etc. is not currently supported.
  Be aware that loading a game in the WHDLoad version takes about 30
seconds, for some reason.
@endnode

@node Sinbad "Sinbad and the Throne of the Falcon"

The various NPCs can move around and therefore will not necessarily stay
for long where you put them.
  Obviously it is not wise to move the Sabaralus (your ship) inland.
  The WHDLoad slave V1.2 seems to have bugs: your ship can randomly
permanently disappear. Additionally, when talking to characters, their
final answer is displayed only very briefly. We suggest using the floppy
version of the game.
@endnode

@node TempleOfApshai "Temple of Apshai"

All 3 "games" in the Temple of Apshai Trilogy are supported.
  You can edit character files (as stored in the Characters/ directory)
or saved game files (eg. dngns/cip). MCE will detect the file
type and configure itself accordingly.
  Although room numbers can range up to 60, most dungeons have less rooms
than this. Changing to a nonexistent room will cause problems.
@endnode

@node TOLCE "Times of Lore"

The program allows considerable freedom to make alterations to the
characters; thus, discretion is advised. Don't forget to save your
character before quitting the program if you want to keep the changes you
have made. The game imposes a limit of 12 items that can be carried
simultaneously.
  Note that the sphere has no in-game imagery until you actually examine
it, and the Scroll of Life has no in-game imagery.

Ultima 3:

"Maximize party" maximizes all characters.

ROST.BIN is the data for the 20 characters who are in the roster.
PLRS.BIN is the data for the 4 characters who are in the party.
In the game:
  "Form the party" writes 4 characters from ROST.BIN to PLRS.BIN.
  "Disperse the party" writes 4 characters from PLRS.BIN to ROST.BIN.

Ultima 4:

For more information about the file format, see
http://xu4.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/xu4/trunk/u4/doc/AmigaFileFormats.txt
  Only the ROST.BIN file is currently supported for editing. The PRTY.BIN
contains certain saved game data but is not currently viewable/editable.

Ultima 4-5:

You cannot change the number of characters in the party, but you can edit
edit "unused" characters (ie. characters who have not yet joined the
party).
  "Maximize character" maximizes attributes which are specific to that
character. "Maximize party" maximizes other attributes (ie. those which
are general to the entire party).

Ultima 5:

It might be necessary to "unready" your equipment before using the editor.

Ultima 6:

(The WHDLoad slave V1.0 of) V1.12 of the game was tested. Other versions
are untested and might not work correctly.
  The condition (poisoned, asleep, etc.) of your characters is
automatically fixed by the editor when saving, but is not shown.
  Note that viewing/editing of items is not currently supported.
@endnode

@node ZCE "Zerg"

you want to keep it permanently.

Super Bug and Capture games.

In this game each player takes the role of one of the powers attempting to

alliance of nations, and by subsidising them, the players attempt to
extend their political control of Africa, while diminishing the control

@{b}CodeWar@{ub} (Windows, AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS)

These are ports (from Linux) of the CodeWar simulator, a game for
programmers.

CodeWar is essentially a simulation engine which allows multiple processes
to execute simultaneously within the same virtual environment. This
in turn provides programmers with the facilities to compete against one
another by seeing who can write the program which exists the longest
within this environment. Unlike other simulators such as CRobots, the
competing robots are real native programs and may thus be written in any
language.

Less formally, CodeWar allows programmers to create programs (robots)
which can compete against one another using a variety of
armaments (cannons, missiles, etc.) by executing them at the same time
within the CodeWar simulator. Robots have the ability to detect these
other robots and make up their own strategies to outsmart other
programmers' code.
