The Amega party in Porsgrunn, Norway was held on 28-30 June, organised by Cryptoburners, Dexion, Fairlight and Violence. It was supposed to be THE party of the year '91, and of course the editors of your favourite mag had to be there althought we had to travel through whole Europe to get there. You can read about the trip in another article, here I would like to tell ya more about the party itself. We arrived late on Friday night with some Silents and Phenomena members, so we missed almost the whole first day of the party. There was already about 500 people there and the others were still ariving. On the last count, there was around 800 people from 154 groups and 13 countries. The entrance fee was 40 NOK and after paying and filling the entrance form, we got our seal on the hand and we entered. The partyplace was the school and there was a plenty of space. Right by the entrance there was 24h cafeteria with food and drinks (bearable, but just bearable) and bulletin board with all the informations about the compos and stuff like that. Near the cafeteria was the video room (rather a video hall) on which some movies were shown. On the ground floor, there was a big room in which smaller and less known groups were placed. On the first floor, there was the pure elite (Phenomena, Anarchy, PMC, Crusaders...) each in their own classroom. Up there were some guyz with Archimedeses. In the basement (atomic shelter) were groups which brought many guys and Amigas. Day 1. We arrived late (about midnight), but I suppose there wasn't much of the action that day. We mostly did what all the others done: copied demos and made some contacts. We were tired from the two days long trip, so we went to find a sleeping place about 2-3 AM. It was the gym near the school, but it was too crowded, so we decided to sleep inside the scholl. In the basement, there was a big hall in which many guys decided to sleep. It was dark and rather quiet considering that most Amigas at the party were connected to 200W amps and the noise was like on rock concert. Guys were sleeping on the floor packed like sardines. Every hour or so, some lunatic would turn on the light and started to shout. An array of replies from the wakened people was too obscene to list here. We managed to get a few hours of sleep and we were ready (were we?) for the next day. Day 2. The second day was the peek of the whole party. Deadlines for the competitions were announced on the bulletin board and many groups were frantically finishing their works. Many guys around were playing what was, no doubt, the game of the party: Amiga Tanx. Althought there was strict rules which majority obeyed some guys from Silents and Network managed to get drunk. Every now and then some guy broke a bottle and there was immediate applause from everybody. The rule that EVERYONE broke was No illegal copying. Maybe becouse of that, organisers or someone else spreaded the roumor that the police will raid the place. That managed to stop illegal copying for about half an hour. And then again school was full of XCopy pings. We strolled around a bit and talked to some people. We chated for a while with a Network BBS sysop (Forgot the name!) about scene in Europe and in our country and some other stuff. He was very talkative, maybe because he was drunk? In the basement Deadline put up big screen (3x3m) and they displayed new demos and there was A3000 presentation arranged (AWESOME!!!). On the bulletin board, there was a list of people who would like to stay for the afterparty in a smaller place, which is planned to be a get-to-know-others-party. We signed up, but we didn't stay (Shame on us!!!), so we don't know very much about it. In the evening there was arm wrestling compo arranged by Dexion dudes. It was held in the atrium of the school and there was enourmous crowd so we didn't find out the name of the winner, sorry! In 1-2 AM were deadlines of the demo, gfx and muzak competitions. There wasn't a public voting because of the too many guys, but the jury was selected from elite groups. The winners were announced early in the morning (while we were sleeping!) and the prizes were handed out shortly after. First prize for demo compo was 5000 NOK!!! We must admit Tomsoft earned it well, their demo is really great. More about compo winners can be found in Results article. Day 3. On the third day many dudes were packing and getting ready to leave. There was still much of copying, mainly of the new released stuff and compo winners. Official slide with the top ten pictures of gfx compo was released and also music disk with the winning tunes. Party was officially over at noon on Sunday and many dudes left, but some stayed for the afterparty. We didn't. This was the objective look on the party. Our own impressions can be found in other article.
