---------------------- 3]SUBMITTING MATERIAL 3]MORE TUTORIALS, PLEASE ---------------------- 3]TODAY'S ADVICE TO FREELANCERS -- No matter how tempting, never sell all rights to your work. You could be waving goodbye to future profit. -- Putting a program in the public domain means anyone can use it -- including PD middlemen who will sell your work on $7 disks and pocket $4+ for themselves. This is not in reference to Fred Fish, a respected collector who encourages redistribution of his disks, on which programmers are eager to be included. Rather than put your work in the public domain, declare it freely distributable, with commercial distribution prohibited without permission. Then publishers, including JUMPDISK, will pay for using your work. 3]SEND US YOUR WORK JUMPDISK is a paying market for programs, articles, art and music. Programs with documentation fetch from $25 to $500. Articles take away $25 to $200. One-time publication right is purchased, and all other rights remain with the author. JUMPDISK users love clear, concise tutorials. We need more of these. We need more short programs -- in the 10,000- to 20,000-byte range. But don't let that discourage you if your work is longer. ALL SUBMITTED MATERIAL MUST BE THE ORIGINAL WORK OF THE PERSON WHO SUBMITS IT. Programs should run on any Amiga with at least 512K memory and an external disk drive operating under Workbench 1.3. If you lack WB1.3, send your work anyway, and we'll let you know if it works under WB1.3, which uses more memory on startup than 1.2 3]WHAT WE WANT IS WHAT YOU GOT We can use programs in any language that works on the Amiga. We publish an eclectic mix of programs and articles. Readers prefer utilities and tutorials. Good games are welcome, but they should be good. If submitted work has already appeared elsewhere, let us know. Please use 80 columns to format your text and write your programs, but be free to open windows that use large 40-character text and graphics; they work. Programs should have icons, unless they work only from the CLI. If a program has more than one file, put them all in a drawer. Include full instructions on how your program runs. If these are not within the program itself, they must be in the form of documentation that is on a disk as a single ASCII file. We prefer that Basic programs work in both Amiga Basic 1.1 and 1.2. We prefer that on ending, a program break back to the Workbench screen. Put all needed files of a program within a single drawer. Art screens should have icons. Articles are required on an ASCII disk file in TEXT 80. We prefer text formatted in plain ASCII. Working with most other word processor formats means we have to reformat the text. So if you really want to make us happy, make your text plain vanilla ASCII. The test? Try to access it with ED. If it fails with a FILE CONTAINS BINARY message, then it will cause us trouble. Don't use formatting code in text. Print out hard copy of both program listings and articles -- unless you have no printer. Label disks carefully and completely. We can't access your work unless you tell us program and file names and how to find them. If your opus requires transfer to another disk, include clear and precise step-by-step instructions of how it is done. If you put everything in one drawer, it's simple. Include a brief letter describing the nature of your submission. If you prefer, send us a query letter first. Always enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope that is roomy enough to contain your entire submission. The postage should be affixed. It should be in the form of stamps, not postage meter labels. There should be sufficient postage affixed to ensure return of your material. If you live beyond the U.S., include international reply coupons for return of material. Send submissions to: JUMPDISK SUBMISSIONS 1493 Mt. View Ave. Chico, CA 95926 U.S.A. It can take us more than two months to give you the decision. Why so long? When we put together an issue, we consider everything we have, then make selections for that month. Everything else waits until the next month. 4]END OF TEXT
