---------------------- 3]THE EDITOR'S TWO CENTS Honesty, Honestly! ---------------------- 3]CURE FOR CABIN FEVER This is the third annual Cure for Cabin Fever Issue. It's thematically no different from other issues, but a little something extra comes into play when we select material for it. We picture a small snowbound cabin. Inside are four people: mom, pop, sister and brother. In the cabin also are an Amiga and the JUMPDISK issue on which we're working. This issue is supposed to include material that offers much in the way of time spent by users -- whether on games, utilities or tutorials. Despite my threat last month to field issues with fewer than the previously guaranteed 10 programs, we are able to offer more than 20 programs this month. As I write this, we haven't stopped playing with the content mix. We always want JUMPDISK to last for a month in interest, but more so during Cabin Fever Month. Remember, being cooped up doesn't give you an excuse to fight over who gets to try this issue first. Be nice! 3]HOW'S IT GOING I called a few Amiga dealers to ask about Christmas season business. The answer: brisk. Amiga 500s and game software are moving well. 3]BACK TO NORMAL I renamed my bit THE EDITOR'S THREE CENTS during a month when our prices jumped exceedingly. Now that I'm used to such prices, I'll revert to the old name. Isn't that the way we always react to inflation? 3]IMMORTAL A dealer shared the call of a man who asked, "Do you stock eternal drives?" The saleswoman answered, "No, but they last a pretty long time." 3]HONESTY I lost a disk file that contained the names of everyone who had renewed their subscriptions after the December 1988 issue. I knew how many had renewed but not whom. There was no choice but to write every person and depend on their honesty as to whether they had renewed. No proof was required. The number of people claiming they had renewed exactly matched the number of renewals I knew we had received. I thank everyone for their honesty. The experience reconfirms our good will toward subscribers. 3]SHOT IN THE ARM OR BOOT TO THE HEAD? Amazing Computing's December 1988 Roomers column leads with an item noting Aegis currently looks "hale and hearty" after borrowing a rumored $1 million to solve a cash flow problem. That's a rosy way of looking at it. If after three years of operation I found it necessary to borrow money to continue a software operation, I'd say I was using a credit card to buy a tuxedo to wear to my own funeral. That's admittedly a narrow view, and it doesn't consider the scenario of a company that has grown to such an extent it requires a cash infusion to support its success between the time of marketing and payment for goods. 3]THANKS, INFO The Jan-Feb 1989 issue of INFO gives a rundown on what's available on currently published disk magazines for the Amiga. We're gratified that INFO finds JUMPDISK its favorite among three Amiga disk magazines. I've said it before: INFO is the best Amiga news magazine in the field. An amazing amount of material is packed into every bimonthly issue. INFO isn't afraid to unload on products it doesn't like. 3]WIN DRAGON'S LAIR I bought my son Dragon's Lair for Christmas. The day after I placed the order, a review copy came in the mail. See the review in this issue. So JUMPDISK will have a little contest to give away the purchased copy of this game. On a piece of paper, write: -- Dragon's Lair -- Your name and mailing address. -- Any letter from A to Z. Mail it to us so it arrives by March 1, 1989. We'll have the computer randomly select a letter from A to Z, then start drawing letters from the pool of entries. The first entry that matches the random number is the winner. We'll mail off the software immediately, and if you don't hear back, then you lost. One person wins and everyone else loses. Not many people will enter this contest. But you should. Only one entry per person or from the same household address. -- Richard Ramella 4]END OF TEXT
