Up one page - Using the right mouse button click on the screen button with the upwards arrow on it. Top of text - Using either mouse button click on the screen button with 'TOP' on it. Bottom of text - Using either mouse button click on the screen button with 'BOT' on it. To find some text - Using either mouse button click on the screen button with 'FIND' on it. To go to the menu - Using either mouse button click on the screen screen button with 'MENU' on it. To turn Music - Using either mouse button click on the screen ON/OFF button with the music symbol on it. To see some - Using either mouse button click on the screen colour adverts button with the music symbol on it. To QUIT catalogue - Using either mouse button click on the screen button with 'Q' on it (top left corner). Keyboard Shortcuts ================== Up Cursor - Move up through text file one line at a time Down Cursor - Move down through text file one line at a time Shift+Up Cursor - Move up through text one page at a time Shift+Down Cursor - Move down through text one page at a time Alt+Up Cursor - Move to top of text Alt+Down Cursor - Move to bottom of text 'S' - Search for some text 'A' - Show advert 'Q' - Quit catalogue (Gives 2nd option) Help Key - Brings up this help file While On Menu Screen ==================== Mouse + Buttons =============== To select a menu - Simply click on the approprietly labeled button screen button Keyboard Shortcuts ================== 1 to 0 - Corresponds to approprietly labeled button 'T' & 'F' - Corresponds to approprietly labeled button 'R' - Same function as the space bar While On Text or Menu Screen ============================ Keyboard Shortcuts ================== F1 to F7 - Change text colour Space Bar - Move between text screen and menu screen Left Cursor - Lower volume of button sound Right Cursor - Raise volume of button sound 'M' - Music On/Off Ordering Disks ============== ** Using this function is only of any use if you have a printer. ** To order a disk simply click on its number using the right mouse button If a low pitch is heard and a green box does not appear it either means that you cannot order it or that you have run out of order spaces(max58) To edit your order simply goto the menu screen using either the spacebar or by clicking on the 'menu' button. After doing this you should be presented with a screen with three 'monitors' and a set of 12 screen buttons. By clicking on the 'order' screen button or by pressing 'T' another set of buttons should replace the previous set. Also in the 'monitor' next to the buttons should appear a small help file. This small help file will tell you how to use each button. Because this catalogue system is able to print out your own order of disks then it is needed for you to enter your own personal details. To do this simply click on the 'Details' screen button. You must then enter your name, house no.+street, town, county, postcode, country, Tel number, Visa number (Only if ordering using access or Visa) and the expiry date of the Visa. We as a caring PD library want to here from you whether it be a gripe or something good or just something you want to tell us. To do this we have included a comments section on the order form. To use this simply click on the 'comment' screen button. You can then enter your comments in the lower 'monitor'. To go onto the next line just press 'Return'. To save you having to re-enter your comments and details everytime you wish to order some disks, we have included a save facility. To use this make sure you WRITE ENABLE the disk before clicking on the 'Save' screen button. After you have done so, WRITE DISABLE the disk. The details you have saved will then be automatically loaded when you run this catalogue If you enter some details and wish to re-load the disk details then click on the 'Load' screen button. To print your order, make sure your printer is ON LINE then click on the 'Printer' screen button. If your printer is Off Line then after about 3O or so seconds a system request will apper. Clicking on 'Retry' will attempt to print again where as 'Cancel' will do just that and will abort printing. The catalogue uses the preferences printer drivers, of which the 'Generic' driver is on this disk. This driver will print text on almost any printer. It does however not like printing the Pound signs on the order. To fix this simply replace the Generic driver with the one for your printer and copy the system-configuration file from a disk that has already been set up to use this driver. The disk is only set up to use the PARALELL port so to change this do the same a previously described. General Notes ============= For hard disk owners if you want to put the catalogue on your hard drive then simply create a directory called "CATALOGUE" in the main ROOT directory and copy across the following files to this directory. ART (dir) MUSIC (dir) MENU_DEFAULTS (dir) VFPD (dir) NEW-CATALOGUE.AMOS Also you will need to copy across these files from the fonts directory on the disk to the fonts directory on your hard drive. CATALOGUE (dir) CATALOGUE.font To run the catalogue from shell type.. The only feature I would have liked to have added is perhaps a small game and an intelligent help system. The code is a total of 64k in length and the IFF Menu screen is 35k in length. The new catalogue took a month to develop from scratch and is programmed in AMOS Basic. I cannot stress how highly I think of AMOS basic. Now that the Compiler is available it is now time for serious programmers to sit up and take AMOS as it is, a SERIOUS PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE. Having used assembler, Pascal, C, and many other forms of BASIC, I would rate AMOS higher than both C and Pascal and easier to get assembler type effects than assembler itself. The added bonus of having an inbuilt assembler is fantastic as it means you can have an Interpreted program, Compiled program and assembler all under one roof.
