List Maker by Joe Rattz, Jr. List Maker is a program for making, editing or combining list of words from an initial list that is in ascii format. When run, the program will automatically load into the MASTER display (left window) any list named "MasterWords" (without the quotes). You may then click on items in the MASTER display and they will be transferred to the LIST display (right window). You may then print the LIST display in 1 or 2 or 3 columns. Additional features have also been added to allow versatility. You may LOAD up to 1000 entries from any ascii file into either the MASTER display or the LIST display. A series of characters followed by a carriage return (Enter, Return or ascii 10) is considered an entry. Any entry longer than 80 characters will be truncated to 80 characters without warning (This will not affect the initial list). You may MERGE additional files into either the MASTER or LIST display. You may SAVE the file presently in either the MASTER or LIST display. You may CLEAR either the MASTER or LIST display. In COPY mode, you may copy items from the MASTER display to the LIST display or from the LIST display to the MASTER display at any time (except when in EDIT mode) by clicking on an entry. In MOVE mode when an item is clicked on, it will be removed from its present display and moved to the bottom of its new display. In the MOVE mode, a PLEASE WAIT requester is displayed until the deleted item is removed from the list of items, however this action may occur too fast for you to read the requester. The MASTER and LIST boxes display the number of entries in the MASTER and LIST displays. They also display the number of characters in the widest entry in each display. You may print the file in either the MASTER or LIST display by selecting PRINT MASTER or PRINT LIST. The printing will be formatted into 1 or 2 or 3 columns as selected by the COLUMN gadgets. Use the MASTER and LIST boxes (showing number of entries & widest entry) to decide whether to format into 1 or 2 or 3 columns. If COLUMN 1 is selected, then each column line will be limited to 80 characters. If COLUMN 2 is selected, then each column line will be limited to 39 characters. If COLUMN 3 is selected, then each column line will be limited to 26 characters. When COLUMN 2 or COLUMN 3 is selected, entry 2 will be printed below entry 1 rather than beside of entry 1. You may SORT the files in either the MASTER or LIST display in either ascending or descending order. You may EDIT any entry in either the MASTER or LIST display by selecting EDIT and then clicking on the word to edit. Deselect EDIT to exit the editing mode after completing all editing. The ? gadget displays an abbreviated set of instructions. The ! gadget displays the publisher and author. To get users started, enclosed with the program is a list of grocery items. The items are listed (somewhat) in the placement order of a local supermarket. Since the list is named MASTERWORDS it will be automatically loaded by the program. Also enclosed is a list of office supplies. Double click on the OfficeSupplies icon to load ListMaker with the office supplies list. One way to make your own list load automatically is to rename the present MASTERWORDS and name your own list MASTERWORDS. There are also other ways to load files for those with more than one list. See the following four paragraphs. From the CLI, you may invoke ListMaker by entering: "ListMaker" (without the quotes). When ListMaker is loaded, it will then auto load any file with the name MASTERWORDS. However, you may load a specific file by entering: "ListMaker officesupplies" (without the quotes). In this case, ListMaker will run and then auto load a file named "OfficeSupplies." If it does not find the file named "OfficeSupplies", then it will go ahead and load MASTERWORDS if it can find that file. From the WorkBench, you may invoke ListMaker by double clicking on the ListMaker icon. ListMaker will then auto load MASTERWORDS if that file can be found. You may also create a project icon for a specific file and enter ListMaker in the tooltypes of the project icon. Then by double clicking on the project icon, the specified file will be loaded into ListMaker. You may also single click on the project icon, press SHIFT and then double click on ListMaker to load a specific file into ListMaker. (Example1: Double click on the OfficeSupplies icon to load ListMaker with the file named OfficeSupplies. If you has another list named "testfile," you may change the name of the project icon to testfile.info [it already has ListMaker in tooltypes]. Then when the testfile icon is double clicked, ListMaker will run and then auto load the "testfile" file.) (Example2: Single click on the OfficeSupplies icon, press SHIFT and then double click on the ListMaker icon to load ListMaker with the file named "OfficeSupplies.") This program is ideal for keeping up with a changing list such as items to be ordered at the end of the month.
