To do this simply click once on the LaserScript disk icon (it should then be highlighted). Then choose "Duplicate" from the WorkBench menu and follow the instructions. If you are working from the Command Line Interface (CLI) simply type: DiskCopy df0: to df0: (if you have a single drive system) or DiskCopy df0: to df1: (if you have an external 3 1/2" drive) and follow the instructions. Please note that LaserScript is distributed on a disk which can be disk- copied. At GOLD DISK Inc. we believe that our customers should not have to suffer the inconveniences usually resulting from protection schemes. At the same time we are relying on you not to distribute copies of this disk. Remember that quality software development takes a lot of time and energy. Software "piracy" (read: theft) robs these software authors of the fruits of their labour. While the disk is being duplicated take the time to fill out the owner registration card. This will allow GOLD DISK Inc. to keep you informed about the latest changes and advances in LaserScript, as well as to provide you with good product support. GOLD DISK Inc. will also be periodically issuing a newsletter with application notes and suggestions. If you haven't sent in the registration card, we can't send this to you. Using PageSetter LaserScript: ----------------------------- The best way to use PageSetter LaserScript with your PageSetter documents with a minimum of fuss is to boot using the LaserScript disk and then run PageSetter. From PageSetter you can then use the PostScript fonts (times, helvetica, courier, and symbol) supplied on this disk. If you boot from another disk you will either have to copy the fonts on the LaserScript disk to the fonts: device or type into the CLI assign fonts: LaserScript:fonts (Exactly like this including punctuation and spaces). On this disk: ------------- As a reference we provide here a list of the files on the disk and a short description of their function. LaserScript - This is the main program. The operation of PageSetter LaserScript is described in detail in the User's Guide. MakeFont - Scales existing fonts to different sizes. This program will look for the fonts on the fonts: device. If the destination font does not already exist the program will create the necessary directories to accomodate the new font. The widths of the individual characters will be calculated based on the information in the ".metric" file for the destination font. If this ".metric" file is not found it will simply scale the spacing information in the source font. This means that you can use MakeFont to scale existing Amiga fonts for use by any application that uses Amiga fonts. For further information about the format of the ".metric" file see the appendices in the LaserScript User Guide. Preferences - The WorkBench Preferences program. Use this to change the preferences to allow the Amiga to use your printer. The disk is supplied with the Epson printer driver set up so if you have another printer you shold run this program before printing any douments. If you want to print your PageSetter documents on a printer supported by Preferences make sure that the graphic preferences are set as described in the PageSetter manual. In addition to these program files, the following drawers are present on the disk: Documents - This drawer is set up to contain your documents. LaserScript will automatically look here for documents if you do not auto-load a document. PostScript_Output - When you direct your LaserScript output to a file for later printing on a laser printer, LaserScript will automatically look here. Forms - When you use the Save and Load Form feature, LaserScript will automatically look here. fonts - This drawer contains the fonts which LaserScript uses. To use these fonts either: 1)Boot using the LaserScript disk (easiest solution) 2) copy the contents of the LaserScript fonts directory to the fonts directory of your boot disk. 3) Using the CLI type assign fonts: LaserScript:fonts exactly as above. The Supplied screen versions of the PostScript fonts which will use the full resolution available when printed on a PostScript device are listed below: Screen sizes PostScript Typeface available (pts.) Typeface Name --------------------------------------------------- pTimes 8 12 16 24 Times-Roman pHelvetica 8 12 16 24 Helvetica pCourier 8 12 16 24 Courier pSymbol 8 12 16 24 Symbol The lowercase p as a prefix indicates that only characters that are printable by PostScript are included in the font. We will be including in FontSet 1 (soon to be released) a version of these fonts which contain all of the Amiga ASCII keymappings. The characters which are not in the PostScript fonts but which are normally found in Amiga fonts include: ¹, ², ³, ¼, ½, ¾, þ, Þ, µ, ÷, Ð, ð, ý, Ý, ×, Ü. For convenience we also supply the regular Amiga system fonts on this same directory. Output using these Amiga fonts with LaserScript will not have the resolution of a PostScript font but will be printed with the same resolution as appears on your monitor. Amiga font sizes availible (pts.) -------------------------------------- ruby 8 12 15 sapphire 14 15 18 19 opal 9 11 12 garnet 9 16 diamond 12 20 emerald 17 20 topaz 11 (+ 8 9 in ROM) devs - This directory contains (among other things) the drivers for the various printers supported by Amiga Preferences. The following drawers are the standard Workbench drawers and are required by the Amiga operating system. Consult the Amiga User Guides and the AmigaDOS User's Manual for more details. Trashcan \ System > - these are visible from Workbench. Empty / c \ l \ s > - these can only be accessed from the CLI. t / libs / ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Errata and additional information. The description of the ".metric" file in the appendix of the User Guide should have one additional word (2 bytes) at the end of the file. The value of this word is 1 if the font is encoded as a normal amiga ASCII mapping (i.e. normal fonts) or 0 if there is no remapping (i.e. the symbol font). Most Laser printers have a 1/4 " unprintable margin around the entire edge of the page. You should therefore avoid putting any printed material vithin 1/4" of the edge of the page. If you notice that the text in a box seems to be slightly clipped at the top and left edge of a box simply give the box a slight margin from within Pagesetter.
