What is 4D-BBS?


4D-BBS, is a bulletin board program for the Amiga computer, which allows a
system operator (SysOp) to make a fully personalized bulletin board setup,
without the cost of the commercial programs.

The minimal requirements for 4D-BBS is any Amiga (500 through 3000), 512K,
a floppy drive and a Hayes-compatiable modem. (Of course, using a hard disk,
while not required, would be the best.) It runs both on Workbenchs 1.3
and 2.0.

Many of the text and data files that 4D-BBS requires can be modified and
changed to almost any configuration.  For instance, a SysOp can set up from
1 to 50 seperate message sub-boards, and have as many menus and sub-menus
as he/she wishes.

All menu functions of 4D-BBS can be assigned any keypress, and placed in any
menu that you may desire, or even be placed in several seperate menus.
Many of the menu functions have additional paramaters that allow you to
make that function very specific. An example menu might look like this:

       Z)modem download the file called 'news.lzh'
       L)eave feedback to John Doe
       S)end mail to Marty Munge      (the name is a paramater!)

In addition, you can assign as many menu functions as you wish to
a single keystroke, making your BBS as fancy and complex as you desire.

4D-BBS also uses embedded instructional codes, that tell the BBS to print
a certain bit of information when it comes accross this code.  All of the
user information you saw in the logon stats screen was done in a text file
called "stats.txt" which uses embeded codes.   Some of these embeded
codes can be also used in message files. (see the help file in the
messages menu).

Each function and menu of 4D-BBS is represented by a character which can
be used in a user's data file to 'lock' him or her from using that function
or menu.

Please take time to look through this BBS -- we are certain this is the
best way to demonstrate 4D-BBS' power and flexibility. And when you are
done, and have read the manual, you can change the BBS to your liking.
