By pressing the Esc key you can return to the ACE menu. Use the PRINT
option of the menu and the Print File option to print a copy of these
instructions. IMPORTANT: Make sure that your printer is attached and on
before printing.

SCROLLING USING YOUR CURSOR (ARROW) KEYS:

The Cursor keys are the keys with the arrows on them. If you hold down
the Down Arrow key, the cursor will move rapidly downward and new screen
text will appear.  By pressing the Up Arrow Key, the cursor moves upward.

Pressing the ALT and 1 Keys one time will move the cursor to the top of
your screen.  If you press the ALT and 1 Keys two times in a row, you can
move the cursor to the beginning of your recipe file(s). Pressing the ALT
and 9 Keys one time will move the cursor to the bottom of your screen.
If you press the ALT and 9 Keys two times in a row, you can move the
cursor to the end of your recipe file(s).

Use your mouse pointer and left mouse button to position the Cursor "|"
anywhere on the screen you desire.  Also, by clicking both mouse buttons
once, you can lift the cursor for repositioning anywhere on your screen.

               USING THE (ALT) Key AND THE (U) OR (O) Keys

By pressing your (ALT) Key and the (O) Key you can move the cursor one
screen downward at one time.  Pressing the (ALT) Key and (U) Key will
move the cursor a full screen upward at one time.

THE ACE MENU CONTAINS FOUR MAIN OPTIONS. THESE ARE:

             FILE -------- EDIT ------- PRINT -------SELECT

To access these options, you must use the top menu bar which appears over
ACE's picture menu and your mouse.  Simply position your mouse pointer
over the option you desire and click your right mouse button. A subset of
options will appear over the picture/text. These options are explained in
detail in this file.  You can also access these options while typing your
recipes by holding down the right mouse button and positioning your arrow
pointer over the top menu bar.  Options such as saving a recipe, renaming
a recipe, etc. can be accessed without first pressing the ESC key and
returning to the picture menu. 

THE ACE MAIN MENU:                EDIT

TYPE A NEW RECIPE (Or type a letter)-Please Type a Recipe/File Name.

To type a new recipe: With the right mouse button held down, move your
mouse pointer over this option and release the mouse button. Now type a
recipe name (up to 30 characters). If you just press the <Return> key,
without typing a name, ACE will name your recipe "Untitled".

You can now begin typing your recipe. You can press the (HELP) key at any
time while you are using this option for a handy list of editing options.
To return to your recipe file from the HELP screen, simply press any key
and ACE will return to the line of text on which you were typing. If you
press the ESC key ACE will return you to the main picture menu.

The Center Editor Line (ACE Information Line) indicates the recipe name,
line number on which you are typing, the page number and the cookbook
directory you have chosen. The information line also indicates whether
you are using the INSERT or OVERTYPE modes. The bottom dotted line,
displays tab markers (5 spaces apart) and the Right Margin < setting.

EDIT CURRENT RECIPE

To edit a recipe, you must first have started typing a recipe or have
loaded a recipe stored on your recipe disk.  This option permits you to
move freely within ACE and select other ACE options, returning to the
top line of your recipe file without erasing the file.

USING THE OVERTYPE AND THE INSERT MODES (ALT) and E Keys

When you begin typing or editing a recipe, ACE is set for the Overtype
mode. This mode permits you to type over existing text. While using this
mode you can delete text with the (Delete) Key and (Backspace) Key. The
Backspace Key will erase the text to the left of the cursor, leaving
spaces left by the cursor.  The Delete key deletes text under and to the
right of the cursor.

THE INSERT MODE (ALT) E Keys

While typing in this mode you can insert text anywhere in your recipe
text.  To access this mode, Hold down the ALT and E keys. The Backspace
key erases text to the left of the cursor.  The Delete Key erases text
under and to the right of your cursor. In both cases, using these keys
will change the text on your screen.  However, the Backspace Key will
effect the line on which you are typing unless you have reached the end
of the line.  Use the Delete key (while using the insert mode) to change
line positioning of your text.

You may find it easier to type in this mode.  By using the insert mode, you
can add or delete text or lines as you are typing.

At times you may find that when deleting words or phrases, ACE splits a
sentence in two parts on two separate lines.  To correct this, simply
place the cursor at the end of the first line and press the DELETE key.
The two lines will then be joined together.  Remember, that your files
will print on your printer exactly the way they appear on your computer
screen.  Make certain that you are pleased with the way your files appear
when using the editor prior to printing a file with your printer.

The Cursor, Control, Tab, ALT, etc. keys are summarized in the Table which
follows. You may also access this list with the (Help) key while typing
your recipes. Upper Case letters are not required to use these functions.

          ALT-I                Autoprints (centered) word: Ingredients
          ALT-M                Used to Reset Right Margin
          ALT-N                Used to change recipe serving sizes.
          ALT-C                Centers text on current line
          ALT-L                Moves text line to leftmost column
          ALT-R                Moves text line to rightmost column
          ALT-P                Show page numbers, until a non-cursor key
                               or position key is pressed
          CTRL-D               Deletes a line of text at one time
          CTRL-P               Paste/Insert deleted lines back on
                               your screen (used with Ctrl-D)

Special Functions:
------------------

USING THE TAB KEY, SPACE BAR OR MOUSE BUTTON TO SET YOUR LEFT MARGIN

With ACE you can preset your left margin anywhere on the ACE screen.  You
can preset the left margin by using your space bar. Simply position your
cursor with the tab, space bar or left mouse button on your screen.  Then
begin typing (do not press RETURN). This setting will remain the same
until you press the RETURN key, at which point ACE will reset the left
margin to the far left side of your screen. By Holding down the ALT Key
and pressing M you can reset your right margin.  This feature can be used
when printing on small single sheet paper or for indenting the ingredients
section of your recipes, printing Index, Rollodex Cards or Address Labels.

Control D AND Control P

By holding down the (Control) Key and pressing the (D) Key, you can
delete an entire line of text at one time. By repeating this process you
can delete an entire screen of text at one time. ACE will continue to
delete lines of text as long as you press these two keys together and
until one whole screen or 23 lines of text has been deleted.

At this point, you can use the PASTE feature of ACE and reposition the
deleted line or lines or screen anywhere in the recipe.  Simply position
your cursor on your screen and press Control P.  Your deleted lines of
text will reappear at this new location.  Remember, you must paste your
deleted text prior to using Control D again or pressing the Esc Key.
Otherwise, ACE will erase the deleted text permanently. This function
does not work with single words or phrases, only lines.  When deleting
lines of text it is not necessary to position your cursor at the begin-
ning of the line.  Your cursor can be anywhere on the line that you want
to delete.

Control G:  Go to a Page # (This applies to printed pages of 62 lines)

By pressing the Control Key and the G Key at the same time and typing a
page number when prompted, you can go immediately to any page in ACE.
By simply pressing Return in this option, you can exit this feature.

The following special functions are also available when typing by holding
down the (ALT) or (CTRL) key and the corresponding letter.

  ALT N       Rescaler (Resizing Recipes)

  This option customizes changes in recipe ingredient sizes from 1 to
  9,999. To use this feature of ACE you MUST have the number of servings
  that the recipe currently serves in { }'s (the serving size MUST be at
  the end of the recipe) and ingredient amounts in [ ]'s. i.e. [1 cup],
  {6} Servings. For alignment of ingredients after resizing, you must
  have the word Directions or DIRECTIONS typed in the recipe after your
  ingredient list.  To disable alignment, do not use this word after your
  ingredients. You must also locate your cursor above this word prior to
  pressing ALT-N for alignment to work.

  As the example above demonstrates, you must also place your measure-
  ments inside [ ]'s for resizing from cups to pints to quarts, etc.
  (i.e. [1 cup] can be resized to [2 cups]). The following is a list of
  accepted measures you MUST use within the bracket keys [ ] when typ-
  ing your personal recipes for the resizing feature of ACE to work
  properly.  Also, always indent one or more spaces to the right and
  start typing all of your ingredients on the second line of the editor
  for the program to work properly.  The top line is reserved.

        cup or cups = cup(s)

 ACE will also round off an ingredient size if you place an R in front of
 the ingredient amount.  Rounding off ingredients can be very useful when
 your recipes uses eggs, for example, 3/4 of an egg is hard to measure.

 ACE will round off these measurements to the closest number if you use
 the following format: (i.e. [R1] egg white) would be restricted to a
 whole number and no fractions would be allowed during resizing; by using
 this feature you would never get 3/4 or 5 1/4, etc. egg(s). You can also
 use this feature for pricing recipes i.e. $[R12].00 Serves {1} would re-
 size to $[R24].00 Serves {2} if resized to 2 servings.

 You can also restrict ACE to dry measures by placing a D in front of the
 ingredient; i.e. [D1/2 cups] would not go beyond cups when resizing.
 Otherwise, you may be confronted with trying to measure gals. of salt!

 You will find many example recipes in the catering recipes disk which
 demonstrate how to correctly enter recipes for resizing.

 NOTE:
      As every cook knows, the preparation of a great meal depends upon
      the ability of the cook to round off odd ingredient amounts in a
      manner which enhances the recipe. ACE is designed to do this for
      you.  This is particularly important when spices are used with a
      recipe. It is always advisable to save your recipes using their
      original serving size when using ACE.

Control F       Find Text

This option allows you to find text anywhere in the recipe. Simply PRESS
THE CONTROL Key AND the F Key at the same time, then enter the text you
want to find when prompted. ACE will search for the text entered from the
cursor to the end of the file.  If the text is present, the cursor will
position itself on the word or phrase you requested. If the text isn't
present, then ACE will state "Sorry, requested text not found...".
Remember, that ACE searches from the cursor position to the bottom of
your file.  This feature will not work properly if you are at the end of
a file. Use the Cursor Keys or other available options to reposition your
cursor first.

Control R       Find and Replace Text

This option allows you to find and replace text anywhere in ACE. Simply
press the CONTROL KEY AND THE R KEY at the same time, enter the text that
you want to find, then press Return. When prompted, type the replacement
text and press Return.  ACE will find the requested text and ask you if
you are sure that you want to replace the text with the new text, yes/no.
Clicking on yes will replace the text, clicking no will abort the command.
By pressing CONTROL R again and the Return Key, you will have the option
of searching and replacing the next occurance of the identified text, etc.

ALT P      Show Page Numbers

This option will display page numbers on the right side of the screen.
The page numbers will stay on your screen while you use the cursor and
movement keys. Should you use any other keys the page numbers will
disappear.  This option permits you to format your recipes or letters to
the actual size of a printed page. However, ACE will automatically break
text according to the number of pages in memory for you when printing.

Function Keys

The function keys will allow you to organize your recipes according to
color.  The 10 function keys are defined as ten different colors.  You
can use these colors when storing your recipes on disk for easy file
recognition. For example, salad recipes can be stored on your disk in the
color "Green" by pressing the F7 key and meats can be stored on your disk
in "Red" by pressing the "F4" key, fish and fowl can be stored in "Pale
Yellow" by pressing the "F1" key, etc. **NOTE: This function can only be
used if you have a Color Monitor. 

This concludes the instructions for using the editor section of ACE.
The following pertains to using ACE's disk & printer commands.

                                FILE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
To access this part of ACE press the Right mouse button and move your
pointer to the top line above the text/cookbook picture labeled "FILE".
You will see a list of options appear over the text/picture. If you do
not release the right mouse button, you can scroll through ACE's various
options.  Releasing the right mouse button over an option which has been
highlighted by the bounce bar will cause ACE to execute the option
selected.  By moving your mouse pointer outside of an option window you
can easily exit this feature and return to your file. You can also press
ESC and return to the picture menu for the same options. The following is
a description of each option:

Before we begin to explain this section, it is important that you under-
stand the AMIGA system.  If you are going to use another disk drive or
disk, other that the one you used to load the ACE program, to save and/or
store, rename or delete recipes then you must first go to the SELECT
section of the ACE top line menu.  Hold down your right mouse button and
release it when your bounce bar is over the Change Drive option.  Then
click on drive DF1:, DH0:, etc.  Remember, drive df0: is the disk drive
contained within the AMIGA computer.  You can then save this new con-
figuation to your cookbook or recipe data disk.  If you do this, you must
use the disk drive you selected for saving, loading, renaming and delet-
ing your recipes.  You can change this configuation anytime you want by
following the above steps and resaving the configuation. Note: It isn't
necessary to save this configuration for ACE to use the newly selected
drive. This program is preset to drive : or df0: or HD0: for hard drives.

Load A Recipe

When prompted, you can select any recipe stored on your recipe disk by
pressing the letter which appears to the left of the file or recipe
name or by moving the Mouse pointer over the recipe name and releasing the
right mouse button. If you want to exit this selection, simply double
click on the EXIT button. A recipe file may contain one or more recipes.

If you have been typing or editing a recipe or letter with ACE and choose
Load a Recipe, ACE will ask if you want to append the selected file (on
disk) to the file in memory. If you answer "YES" then the file (as much
of it as will fit in memory) will be added to the end of the of the file
in memory. Otherwise, the loaded file will replace the one in memory.

NOTE: If you have the standard system with 512K memory ACE will hold 9
      full pages of text at one time without an additional disk drive
      and a printer attached. If you have the 1 meg system the ACE will
      hold about 85 full pages, etc. ACE is designed to adjust to the
      memory of your system. With two disk drives and a printer attached
      to a 512K system the ACE will hold 5 pages.

Save A Recipe:

If you attempt to save a recipe with the write protect tab on you will
go back to the desktop.  Remove the write protect tab and click on RETRY.
Your recipe will then be saved. To return to ACE press the Amiga M keys
and click your mouse button one time.

DO NOT USE YOUR COOKBOOK DISK TO SAVE YOUR RECIPES. ALWAYS USE A PRE
FORMATTED RECIPE DISK. WHEN CHANGING DISKS, ALWAYS RESET THE AMIGA BY
CLICKING ON THE DISK DRIVE YOU ARE USING FOR THE NEW DISK. THIS IS
FOUND UNDER `SELECT' CHANGE DRIVES.

To save a recipe on disk, use your mouse to select this function. ACE
will ask you if you want to Replace or Save A Recipe. If you want to
Save a Recipe, then click on Save and the recipe will be saved under its
Recipe name. If you are going to Replace a Recipe, you need to click on
the recipe name that you are replacing. Doing this will replace the old
recipe with the new recipe. If you do not have a Recipe Data Disk in your
disk drive, then ACE will ask you if you would like to Create a Recipe
Disk.  The disk must be preformatted using your desk top. You also have
the option of changing disks while in this section by clicking on open.
This option will appear only if you do not have a recipe disk in your
disk drive. You can also click on Abort to exit the save feature. To
create a recipe disk simply click on the Setup window your recipe will be
saved and your data disk will become a recipe disk.

SaveAs Mode:

Turn on this mode to save files two times on your data disk.  With SaveAs
On, your file will be first saved as usual and then resaved on disk under
its' file name which appears in the ACE Editor.  Use this feature to re-
cognize your file to exporting the file to other Amiga word processors.

Delete A Recipe

This option allows you to remove unwanted recipes from your Recipe Disk.
To Delete a Recipe, click on the recipe name that you want to delete. ACE
will remain in the Delete option until you double click on the EXIT frame
located at the bottom left corner of your screen.

Rename A Recipe

This option allows you the option of Renaming a Recipe that is on your
Recipe Disk.  To rename a recipe, click on the recipe name that you want
to change.  ACE will then request that you type (enter) a new recipe
name.  If you press return without entering text, the name will not be
changed.  Double click on EXIT to return to the ACE menu.

List Recipes Stored On A Disk

This option is a convenient way to view the contents any Recipe or file on
disk without loading the recipe into ACE's memory. You can use this option
while editing a recipe in ACE.

Simply click on the recipe name you want to view and ACE will display
your recipe (formatted) on your screen.  While the recipe is displaying,
you may Pause the recipe by holding down the left Mouse button or the Space
bar. If you press P (when prompted) the recipe will print on your Printer.
Click on the EXIT button to return to the ACE menu.

IMPORT FILE:

Select this option to import a non-ACE text file.  The file must be in
ASCI format and contain no formatting.  You must first select the disk
drive you are using, insert the data dish containing the file and then
simply type the file name, plus any extention, .doc, .dat, etc. Press
RETURN (alone) to obtain a disk directory.  Enter ESC and press Return.
Then click on the OK box which appears under the message "File Cannot Be
Read From This Disk", to exit import without importing a file. All import-
ed files will load and display in the ACE Editor.

EXIT:  This option will allow you to return to the Amiga desktop. Click on
the ACE option to return to the ACE program.

                                  PRINT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Print File

The print file option will print everything contained in ACE's memory.
ACE will tell you how many pages of text are in ACE. You then tell ACE
how many pages you want ACE to print. You can press the Esc key, at any
time, while your recipe files are printing to stop printing. If you have
more than one page in ACE and want to print just one page, enter the page
number you want to print twice: i.e Starting Page 2 (etc.) Ending Page 2.
This will print only page 2.

Print Recipe

This option will allow you to print one or more recipes.  If you happen
to have more than one recipe in ACE at one time, ACE will ask you which
recipe you want to print.  ACE numbers recipes from the first to the last
recipe. i.e There are 4 Recipes. Which one do you want to print? Simply
select the recipe to be printed and ACE will print only this recipe. If
you happen to be typing a report or a personal letter, ACE will tell you
how many printed pages you have in memory and ask you which pages you
would like to print. If you want to print all of the pages, simply press
Return and enter the page number of the last page ACE indicated is in
memory and press return again, or simply press Return twice. To print
other pages, simply choose the page numbers you want ACE to print.

Print Ingredients

This option will allow you to print ingredients from one of the
recipes in the memory of ACE. To print your recipe ingredients be sure
that you have first entered your recipe so that ACE will understand where
the starting and ending points of the ingredients are.

ACE first checks for the word "Ingredients" or "INGREDIENTS" to mark the
beginning of the recipe ingredients. ACE then looks for "Directions" or
"DIRECTIONS" or "Instructions" or "INSTRUCTIONS" to set the end of the
recipe ingredients. ACE will then print the Ingredients of the recipe.

View Recipe/View Ingredients/View File

This option will allow you to preview any recipe or recipe ingredients that
is in the memory of ACE prior to printing the recipe.

                                  SELECT

(SELECT) A Cookbook/A Wine List:

Choose this option to reset ACE to find recipes stored in the twelve ACE
cookbooks or six wine directories.  Use your arrow pointer and click on the
cookbook/wine name with your left mouse button then click on the OK box.
ACE will then be set to find/save, etc. the recipes stored in the selected
cookbook/wine list. You can also turn on the Change Mode by pressing C,
click you left mouse button on the Selection line and type in a cookbook
or wine list name. Turn off the Change Mode by pressing C again and then
click on OK.  ACE will now be set for the cookbook/wine list you typed.

Load Instruct(ions)

This option will allow you to load the ACE instructions into ACE's
editor.  You can then view, edit or print the instructions to your
printer. You can also add to the instructions by simply typing the
information. This special feature can be use to create a recipe index
for each recipe disk.

Save Instruct(ions)

This option will allow you to save ACE instructions on your recipe disk(s).

Change Drives and Using Cookbooks:

You may also place your recipe files in cookbooks you can create.

To use a cookbook you must first create it using the SELECT section of
ACE's main menu. From the Filer's picture menu, Click on Select, then
click on the Change Dive option.  You will have the option of using
drives DF1:-DH1: and using up to 12 cookbooks on one disk.  You must
change one of the \Cookbook\ examples to a cookbook name using the ap-
propiate disk drive address or no drive for a one drive system. To do so,
move your mouse pointer to the cookbook name that you want to change and
then press the left mouse button. Now press the c key to turn the change
mode on. Type in the drive name followed by the cookbook name and then a
trailing backslash \ and press <Return>. Press the c key again to turn off
the change mode. Here are two correct format examples using ACE to create
cookbook files without using AMIGA's <DIR>'s created in cli and 1 for
<Dir>'s created in CLI using the MakeDir statement:

 DF0:MYRECIPES\         DF1:CAKES\    :FISH\ or for <Dir> df0:FISH/name\

After creating a cookbook, select drives DF0:-DH1: & save configuration;
and, your cookbook will be saved to your recipe or ACE disk.  Exit this
feature by clicking on OK. If you type a recipe and select the Save
option, you must click on Setup for ACE to use your cookbook selection.
As long as you save recipes in this format they will appear under the
cookbook you created. Click on any available disk drive in Change Drives
to exit your cookbook(s) and store recipes or files directly to the data
disk.  Also, when reusing a cook- book you must load the cookbook
configuration from your Recipe or ACE disk before using the editor to
type a new recipe within this cookbook.

You can also follow these steps for creating new wines and cookbooks
from the SELECT A Cookbook/Wine List frames. If you get confused, CALL US
AND WE WILL TALK YOU THROUGH THE PROCESS. If you have created a <Dir> then
type: DF1:Cookbook/   This format will enable ACE to find the Amiga <Dir>
Cookbook.  You may then use ACE to create cookbooks within this <Dir>.

SEARCH RECIPES:

Use this option to search for ingredients or text stored on disk in your
recipe files.  You may search for up to six sentences (containing 30
characters each) at one time.  ACE will first request that you select the
cookbook you would like to search.  If you are searching ACE cookbooks
then click on ACE.  If you are searching a cookbook which you created,
click on YOURS when this option frame appears.  Depending upon your
selection, a Cookbook Selection frame will appear.  With your left mouse
button click on the cookbook you wish to search then click on OK.

If you desire to view the files ACE is searching, click on VIEW first.
A new frame will appear with six lines stating "Skip Line".  Use your
left mouse button and pointer and click on a line.  The line will blank
and a cursor will appear.  Now, simply type in the ingredient name or the
text (up to 22 characters) you would like ACE to search for.  Repeat this
process for lines 2-6 or simply click on START to begin the search.  If
VIEW is ON, ACE will display the file it is searching.  To pause ACE
during a search hold down your left mouse button.  To exit a search, press
the ESC key rapidly two times during the search. 

ACE will tell you the file names where your search ingredient(s) or text
appear and autoload each file into the ACE editor, appending the file(s)
to any text which may already exit in the Editor's memory (up to the num-
ber of pages permitted by your AMIGA'S memory.) End. USA MEDIA, Inc.
