If you use the n for notify command, the message is generated and sent, but
the header file does not recognize the incoming message.  Therefore, you
never get the notification of a message even though the message is there. 
Likewise, if you read mail, it does not show up as a message to be read and
you can't even force the reading of the mail.

I Have a plea to the makers of AmiExpress...
I have spoken to certain developers of /X about the RED and WHITE
ANSI colors being switched on AmiExpress bbs's Local side.. I was
told that they used to be switched the other way, BUT after popular
demand, they were switched back.... ** I want to make a few GOOD
arguments against this.. I hope I will open a FEW eyes ** For one,
there isn't any such thing as 'true' AMIGA ANSI.. True Ansi MUST
include all of the complex animations, hundreds of extra characters
(that are not supported by /X), ansi shading, (not supported either)
and as you know color.. To the best of my knowledge, there are no
AMIGA ansi programs which support animations, and true, 'real' ansi
shading. AmiExpress does support.. 1:basic ansi colors (up to 8
different colors) 2: even ANIMATIONS, <great!> 3:some ansi
characters. I'll cut to the chase... I use "The Draw" IBM ANSI
program (the newest version) straight on an IBM to make my ansi's
for my board..After all, WHO made ANSI? Who does it best? I dont
care for the IBM, but they know what they are doing when it comes
to ANSI. I make _all_ of my ansi's there. Now... EVERY time I make
something on "the draw" in white, the sucker ends up red on my
AmiExpress prg (on the local screen, and real darn ugly cause it
was meant to be white!) Anyways, ALL of my callers, <ALL> Ibm and
Amiga, say that it turns out white to them. Now I am not sure WHY
amiexpress has to screw up a TRUE ibm ANSI made screen (on local
screen), but she does. Glad she dont send it over the line that
way.. As I said before... ALL OF MY CALLERS SAY THAT THE SCREEN
I MADE IN WHITE ANSI COLORS, IS WHITE TO THEM!! BUT TO ME IT LOOKS 
RED..  Was the /X colors made for some lame ansi editor
like 'BGE' or 'PRISM'? Furthermore..... I have 2 ANSI programs on
my AMIGA that are two of the newest, for the Amiga. When I use
them, the EXACT SAME thing happens. Upon testing.. Using Terminus
2.0 in color from remote (most of everyone does) the DEFAULT ansi
colors, red and white,are switched from Amiexpress. Amiga Program
'Term' does exact same thing.For everyone who isn't following my
argument here, there are 5 (count 'em) ANSI programs.. 4 for the
amiga, and 1 for the IBM which all say that AmiExpress is truely
backwards in regards to red & white. This is all so documented
through experience, And I wouldnt be writing this, unless I was
damn sick of having to make 'local only' menus, and viewing UGLY
ansi screens. When I make the ANSI's on ANY good prg, and make
them in red (to where they look ugly when you make them, >they
turn out white on LOCAL screen, and RED to my remote users!<
Basically, I spend 3 times the necessary time making my ansi's,
because /X isnt viewing them properly on local.. I have spent
hours writing this, to ensure that I am properly understood..
I really hope I will not have to revert to buying an IBM PC,
and using a true ansi editor, and putting it on a bbs package
that knows what 'red' ansi is and what 'white' ansi is, but I
just cant spend anymore time trying to make AmiExpress view it
locally properly. It's clear, that AmiExpress isnt following
IBM or AMIGA ansi rules for local display! FINAL NOTE: ANSI's
are only red to ME on local screen. Thank you for taking the
time to read this, and please make some type of pen set that
is configurable for each bbs usage. I know the new pen set is
out, but it doesnt define 'IN SCREEN' colors.. It hasnt
changed a thing for me after configuring it. I love my amiga,
but its a pain in the ass... Yours truely..........solo

Have a quicky that may be a problem. I was using 3.36 and the newchat that
came out with it. I just d/l'ed /X 3.37 and put the newchat in..
Before (just today) the chat was working flawlessly. Now, it crashes the
program. I know its setup right, because i had it working before...
I have tried to use both version of the newchat (3.6 and 3.7) in /X 3.37 to
see if it would clear up the problem. Its apparent that neither newcat
version will work in /X v3.37... Unless of course the setup has changed and
I missed it in the docs?  But as I said before I HAD THE OLD NEWCHAT
AND THE VERSION 3.36 OF /X working. Change has been since 3.37..
Oh one more thing........................thank you for the pen setup!!

Hi! Few things.
 
- I dont know but since some version of AE 3.3x series the bbs crashes more
frequently. or exapme now I cannot open local node from ACP and instantly
make it quiet with the quiet button and node number that just got open b4
the whole node screen even opens, b4 I was able to do it. Just a little
thing. Also then you have 0 baud speed or not at all for that particular
local node and by accident you press d for d/l the bbs crashes as well.
- BBs locks up if 2 people wants to access my DAT at the same time, Yes I
know its not AE fault but it would be nice if there maybe was either door
choice to select files for user to d/l which could move the files to
certain path and make sure 2 people wont select files at the same time or
the choice for user to use build in select d/l option. The same thing like
was with internal file checks or the external ones. At the same time the
door could manage the wildcard on and off for file selecting which I realy
hate...Or the posibility could be also to have instead of ULPATH.1=xxx and
DLPATH.1=xxx to have CDPATH.1=xxx and then the bbs would look at this as
well after DLPATH for particular files and while it looks for that path it
would not other users select any files at that time and also it would copy
the file to certain path where it would delete them after user d/lds it or
somehting. This would be realy helpfull for sysops with DAT's and CD ROM's.

Hi, /X3.36d ... Came to my notice that /X doesn't show the right bulletins
made with Mci commands... i've got 2 areas bbs:conf-amiga and bbs:Conf-cf
where the screens swap all the time... other areas do the same thing...
 
Mci command is just plain ~SS_ ... the rest of the following mci commands
are good (/X just picks the wrong bull.txt...)... very weird and annoying..

hey Joe, we got a very hard problem !
The User.Data Structure is damaged somehow, i got users uploading over 1
gigabytes, but they never did, if i activate coference account in the
account 4editor "@", they just have their normal upload bytes, but in the
main editor they have gigabytes up/downloaded. I just thought that was a
fault in my User.Data, but 3-4 people told me they got the same problem
..check into this!

I know that this has been an error in Ami-Express for a long time,
but I am not sure if it has been brought to your attention.
Example · I am uploading to a bbs, and while I'm in the middle of an
upload, the bbs host itself crashes and reboots. Two things can happen
here. 1. Another user calls and is prompted with my uploads, he deletes
them or signs the descriptions getting the credits etc...
2. I call back and it doesn't recognize me as having uploaded those files,
therefore they are lost and I wasted my time. Maybe you could make a small
comment on the file being uploaded to allow express to know what file a
user has uploaded, even if it crashes in the middle of a transfer.
(Which also has caused many checksum errors on my hd)
 
Another error I've discovered many times is when I am writing a new ARexx
door for Ami-Express, and I have forgotten a (") here or there, causing
the program to lock. (There are also other bugs that cause /X to lock)
Can you fix this?

then it is going but the problem is i have more as 9 nodes how i wana use  
automatical to boot up after a reset please can u tell what i have to do   
remember i have all tryed cpu on cpu off all options before i booting but  
all times the same problems thx for ur help
 
idea: install a WAIT command for the diffrent nodes like WAIT=20 and then
after this wait load the next node and search again for a WAIT=20 or so
command in the node1.info so i am sure the problem will fixed for many
other dudes and owners of amiex thx in advance

I love what you did J.Hodge to AmiExpress, but here is a couple of minor
bugs to fix.  The last node of a multinode system completely ignores custom
commands from the prompt.. while the others operate fine.
 
BBS:NODEx/PLAYPEN is NO LONGER scanned for filenames when uploading, which
has lead to the same file being sent at the same time..

still work... some of the doors were: 5D-who and the older Chat (node to

know of for NOw..some of my users said the Fullscreen editor had a bug in
it, but i have since found out it was the users fault!!!

When you install the 3.30, everything seems just fine..as long as a user
logs in and don't upload, he just get's a disabled account, but when he
uploads for instance 10k 1 file then his new upload stats will be just
that, 10k , 1 file,  all previous uploads will be gone. I use conference
accounting and i had to go over every user again to manually re-install all
users previous stats, saved it, and hoping now that when he uploads a new
file it will get appended.
The XPR download is still FREE dl, the callerslog only shows the files
downloaded so
8 files xxxxK xxx minutes xx% at 14400, not DOWNLOAD xxx.dms etc..
That is about it...(the bugs i found)

Yep, i again bcoz the Port-Problems i got with /X.
Every time the logoff-script was executete, a port wil be created for this
script, thats no problem,hehe. 
but the port will not be closed correct after executing the script.
After a chat with the outlaw here, i have added the line
endcli >NIL: 
to my logoff-batch, but the same problem still exists,  i got a new empty
port every time a user logging off and the logoff-script was executed.
The commands in T: gots deleted okay, but the port remains. Here is a

the ports at 079e6a80, 079e6ae0, 079e6a80 and 079e6ae0 are created for the
logoffsripts ( four calls = four ports) .
After to many ports exists, the Computer crashes and i got some trouble
like disk not validated and so on, if a user was on another node, i doesnt
makes me happy :-)
hope you got some help for this problem, bcoz it wasnt removed with the
endcli line.

This is not a real biggie.. but when the sysop uses the '2' option to
view the callerslog.. it scrolls farther than the personal prefs for
screen height.. i think its been this way for a long time.. i seldom use
it but did just lately and it reminded me of this..
 
Using the Sytem password.. if a caller connects and there is garbage on
the screen these ascii's are entered in the callerslog as system password
failier.. the problem is the traping of the second set of characters..
some of them will distroy Ami's screen display and turn it to garbage
this happends when reading the callerslog with the sysops '2' option..

...Bytemaster, please pay attention to STACK allocation.  It would seem
versions 3.18 and higher require more stack.  I was having irratic crashes,
particularly upon carrier loss from some users, and the problem was
eliminated by rasing ACPs stack to 50,000 Bytes and each EXPRESS to 75,000
Bytes... 

All Sysops, if you are running V3.19 as I am, do so, it will solve many of
your problems.  I have a 4 node system running on an A2000/030 w/10 megs of
ram.

a) Still messed up msg counting on users (suddenly have >50000 mails on
   active users and only about 10000 in the whole system hehe)
b) When someone uses the account editor (not local) and he wants to
   change the PW (option C) it jumps into the line with the telephone
   number (D) ! But, for god sake, it's still owrking even if it's the
   wrong line
c) the TERM door seems to ignore NO CARRIERS, BUSY, VOICE and whatever
   for some unknown reason and suddenly starts to try again but
   immediatly stops after the dialstring with a NO CARRIER (as many
   tries as given) - to sum it up: When it fails the first time - it
   fails the following tries also ! Maybe it would make sense to start
   an alternate script when the whole operation fails anyway
   (eg. this script just have a "WAIT 10" and then "FETCH.S" again)
d) The (very annoying) thing with this TZ variable has some strange
   side effects:
   1. It slows down key I/O like a madman
   2. It doesn't allow to local login on a modem node
      (Pressing ONE single key leads to a PWFAILURE !)
      The weird thing is, when setting up the screen with 2
      colors only it is possible to local login (Full ANSI strip ?) !
e) A user (still) get's full time when he re-logon (either using
   RL or really logging out and in)
f) AmiXNetBase (NOT AmiXNetTopic !) sometimes crashes when my three
   nodes are busy (or at least 2 and I use a program like Opus or
   whatever)
g) ACP should not lock up when a FATAL ERROR appears ! To fix this
   errors you always have to reset the whole machine ! Annoying !
 
That's it for now. Thank you for all the already made updates ! Some very
nice little  things changed meanwhile (eg. when replying a mail it will not
jump to the next but still keeps on that mail - great !)

/X 3.19 stil got the problem that it is very slow when entering
descriptions or being im the main prompt of express ...
it's something like the key repeat delay is very slow or something is being
in background ...
This is since 3.17 ...i received some messages lately, that i;m not the
only one having this problem, and someone told me, that this is only the
point, when you login local to express...
i never tried to call my board from outside, so i don't know anything if
this is only when logged in local or always.
Have a fast look at this ..this is very strange, when uploading local and
using a snapper to enter the description.
I also tried to start express without any tools in memory (i skipped my
complete startup-sequence), same problem, so it can't be any external stuff
like a snapper, safebbs or something. it MUST be express doing this.

it adds the bytes just fine, but every day I have to manually add about
10-20 user's files uploaded because they are not getting updated properly!

at the message reply prompt, this has been reported several times over the
last 6 months but I can not reproduce it all of the time. So starting today
I will enter 'e' at every message prompt I come to... then maybe you'll
see.

Using 200 ^ lead to crash some systems (mine is not affected - hum !?)
 
Command 2 can be used by every level of user - even when you create an icon
with ACCESS=255 it's bypassed. Using ACCESS=0 it is (strangly!) disabled !
 
Using PASSWORD= as option in any CMD icon every user will be asked for even
if his level is not high enough for the option. Eg. I set up an Icon for
the command 1:
ACCESS=254
MULTINODE=NO
INTERNAL=1
PASSWORD=TRYTOHACKME!
Now a user with eg. level 10 tries "1" he will be asked for the PW and if
he typed it right /X says "Command requieres higher acces."

I found a some type of bug in the 3.17 or 3.18 it does the same thing that
never happend.. i guess its quit important..
i use ced to edit my files... but if i have a user on another line iusing
the lister and i have my list on the ced well the list fucks up.. in this
way.. lines are completly shuffled.. dates and files are confused...
you can see that there is double descriptions and so on..
also a big set of ascii chars are saved on the filelist .. 
this is the 5 time this happens and i have to rescue some of my filedirs..
not to nice.. this was not happening on the previous versions..
also to get the poit i see in the ascii part taht gets mixed  with the
filesdir some part of doors i run like pwfail from sigma ( rexx one)..
this never never happend before.. so must be ami !

there is abug in the internal and external accounteditor by Maltese Falcon
(or /X?). When someone hasn't typed in a telephonenummber and you will do
it for him in the accounteditor online or offline, the phonenummber will
also apear directly after the location!
This error can also make some utils crash (like NOStop 0.39 on my system).
Is there also an error in the e command?
When i type e Cyres* on ma system and i type n at the prompt, the same line
comes again and again (there is no other user on my system with a name,
that can match these characters, but seems that /X is search for the next
name without end!).

Another request is that when the Sysop has a LOCAL upload he can't
upload files from different dirs. If this was made possible then it

And a final idea - What about using a setup similiar to the 'old'
configuration screens of /X 1.x to be able to change certain text colors
for Ami-X... I used to manually hex edit my express before I was
registered, but now that I am I can get a new update from 1 day or
1 month etc... so to have it write the config to the HEX would be easy
I think??? And just use abbreviations and then write what they mean in 
a doc or so? this is a cewl idea cuz it lets users personalize /X even
more... And finally, what about a new Status menu? Maybe have a

You can leave a file without a description, when you press <RETURN> twice!

Also there was a bug in the previous /X versions with the XPR protocolls!
There where no entrys made of the downloaded files in the ul or callerslog
when somemone used
the XPR protocolls, so i couldn't see which files where downloaded and
the lastcaller utilitie can't reconize the status!

Don't know by now, if that bug has been removed jet! PLEASE, check it out!

data from another account instead of teh users account.  This is when you

like before with just new Ratios etc?

when the color is set to Normal (esc)[0m the color should get WHITE!
when the FIRST color is set it should be set to WHITE (was RED in former
Express)..  now you just have fixed this by changing the color in the

turned RED now when it should be WHITE!

Well, I think I have found 2 bugs for you to watch for.  1st only happens
if you have some confs on a different partition or Hard dirve.  When
someone looses carrier or aborts the ul, the files stay in PLAYPEN for the
node being used.  They are never moved to the LCFILES or PARTUPLOAD dirs.
Again, this only happens to the confs that are NOT physicaly located in
BBS:

The second bug is in the conference account editor.  Watch to be sure tha
accounts are correctly updated when you do a manual update.  Give someone
extra credits for a great upload, watch that what you give him shows up in
the FS command for this person and that it does take effect.
