The North Cascades The North Cascades in Washington are the most alpine region in the United States outside of Alaska. The mountains are not high, with most peaks except for the big volcanoes under 10,000 feet, but they more than make up for this in ruggedness. The mountains rise from valleys often no more than 1000 to 2000 feet above sea level.
