INFORMATION ON VideoStudio CAPTOR Main Titler ________________________________________________ (note that this file vs2:mains/information may be deleted when no longer required to make disc space) To run an existing job: __________________________________________________ You must define which job you want to run (or edit) before you can proceed. If you are not sure what is on the disc, then pressing (J) from the menu will provide a list of all the main tiler jobs for capt. When you have decided which one you require to RUN (or work on), then use (C) to change to that job, enter the name on the keyboard, followed by (return). The three RUN MODES (options (1) (2) & (3)) __________________________________________________ (1) Normal: All colours will appear as defined as set by the editor. Text may be F=faded P=Printed or C=Cut, as selected from the preferences page. This suits Background mode on all genlocks. Background IFF is ignored. (2) Bluescreen: As 1, but rendering is forced to black, and the background colour set to blue 5. This suits both foreground and background genlock operation. (3) Over IFF: A backgound pic (in bgnds drawer) is specified in preferences (P) and is 640X500 8-colour IFF which can be created with D-paint. Only print mode is currently supported. The operation will be slower if Outline Rendering is used. Manual and Automatic cue _________________________________________________ This is chosen from the dwell time option on the preferences page. A number (0-9) will set the no of seconds a page will be displayed for. This is auto mode, and (spacebar) will begin and end the sequence. If instead you use (M) for dwell time, spacebar will cue each title in turn. Additionally, (enter) will bring the same title on/off screen, and the +/- keys increment the next page to load. Also, pressing a number key will go direct to that page number. Preferences ________________________________________________ The number of pages (or screens) should be set before editing begins. The three rendering options: (P) Plain text (D) Drop shadow (O) Outline may be set as required. Rendering is in colour 7. How to start a new job: _________________________________________________ Select M on the menu, and enter a name you choose so the program makes a drawer for it. If the name has been used, you will be told "already exists". Next, select (P) for setting the preferences as described above. If you don't want to change any of the parameters in preferences, just press (enter) to skip through to the next. When you have finished with preferences, then with a new job you must select the NEW option of the editor to create your pages, or screens. You must number them from 1 upwards. If you want to edit existing text then the E option of the editor must be used, or the earlier version will be overwritten. The Editor: __________ Any existing text may be overtyped with new from the keyboard. Avoid any leading spaces (unless box effects are wanted, using background colour) because this will defeat the auto centreing and margin. It is also important to understand that the lines can be moved about at any stage. DO NOT leave unused lines to attempt a layout.. in other words, start typing on line 1, and don't leave it empty of text. Then enter line 2, and so forth. The line number is shown at the top of the editor screen. You should set font first, before entering text, so that you can see if your text will fit. Use the pull-down menu, but the font can also be changed later. Dont worry about layout, until the text is complete. Auto formatting of Right Margin or Left Margin flush are available LMF/RMF, also centreing; either for just the current line, or for all. The (M) gadget will move the current line with the mouse, click Left button to place text in new position. Foreground colour is set with F gadget, then chosen colour on the palette. Background colour is set similarly but with the X gadget. The character spacing is adjusted on the current line with the keys (Ctrl-S) to stretch, and (Ctrl-C) to compress it. If you wish to delete a line, press (Ctrl-D) and then refresh the screen from the FORMAT MENU. Setting Margins _______________ Select "Set MARGIN" from the FORMAT pull-down menu. Position the pointer where you want the margin to be. Now press either the left or right mouse button. The Left Button sets the Left margin to the pointer position, while the Right button sets the Right margin. The current margin positions are displayed just below the top line of the editor frame with red & blue arrows. Cursor Movement _________________ The numeric keypad (2,4,6,8) are the usual cursor movement keys for CAPTOR. If you want the numbers to appear instead, press (escape) to toggle into number mode. Pressing esape again will return to cursor movement. The Block at the top is red in CURSOR mode. Changing Colours _________________ Select the colour to change. Select R (red) G (green) or B (blue) gadget, depending on the primary colour to alter. The +/- gadgets will now vary this value up or down the 16 possible levels. Saving text ________________ Select SAVE from the pull-down. Text may also be saved under a different name with COPY. Handy for re-ordering pages. Test with IFF _______________ Select LOAD IFF and enter name of background required. now select overwrite. This will test your layout over a background. You can restore the editor frame by selecting refresh, and return to the editor palette by selecting PALETTE. Preparing your own BACKGROUNDS ______________________________ These are created using an IFF-compatible Art-Package, such as DELUXE PAINT 2. Deluxe paint 1 is not suitable. Photon paint is unable to set the number of colours correctly, and is not fully IFF compatible, therefore may not be successful. CAPTOR requires IFF files in 8-colours, and 620X500 pixels in dimensions, in HIGH RES only. Other resolutions cannot be loaded into this program. It is suggested that you use one of the existing files as a starting point, if you are not sure about RESOLUTION and CENTREING. Any pics you create must reside in the bgnds drawer in order that CAPTOR may use them.
