Their objective is to explore the cosmos, seeking new forms of life and civilizations. This peaceful mission is regularly thwarted by the vicious, dictorial Klingons and their allies, the Romulans, who both seek to conquer the cosmos. INFO: "Star Trek" is without a dout the most popular program ever, wether it be science fiction or otherwise. The fanatisam with which the show is followed is to this day, still incredible. Apart from being one of the best made and most exciting shows ever, Star Trek had much, much more to recommend it. Excellent special effects, great charachter acting, intelligent storylines and some good action also pulled the viewers in. Almost everthing about Star Trek is legendary now, and it is not hard to see why the series is loved by millions. Ater "Gene Roddenberry's" first pilot film for the series was deemed too cerebral by the NBC brass, he was encouraged to rewrite it and resubmit it. That first pilot, which was never aired, starred Hollywood actor "Jeffrey Hunter" as Captain Pike, commander of the Enterprise. When shooting began on the series proper, Hunter was unavaliable to continue his role, so the whole concept gradually mutated into the Star Trek we all know with William Shatner's Captain Kirk heading the crew, supported by Leonard Nimoy as Science Officer Spock and DeForest Kelly as Chief Medical Officer Dr. Leonard McCoy. The series was a success from the start, but by the third year, with ratings falling, the plug was pulled. But as we all know "Star Trek" proved itself to be the show that would just not die. ------------------------------------------------------------- EPISODES: FIRST SEASON: 1966-1967 ------------------------------------------------------------- PILOT FILM ---------- 1) THE CAGE -------------------------- Writer: Gene Roddenberry.
