Hello, We'd like to wish a joyful flashback in time with the release of Abandoned Places 2. Hopefully, you will enjoy the game just as much, as you did a few years ago, or - in case you missed this one - find it fun now, for the first time. Please keep in mind, that - since it came as a free product for you - there is absolutely no support of any kind for this game. However, unlike some of today's games, it was released in a time originally, when Internet was not accessible for the most as a place to download patches, so it was tested completely ;-) Also note, that UAE does not display the 64 color screen format used in-game properly - this may have changed by the time you read this -, half of the colors are completely wrong... We recommend using Fellow - some gfx does not show properly there as well - or use it with AGE, the Amiga Gaming Emulator by Istvan Fabian when it comes out. Or transfer back to a real A500... You may experience some difficulties saving to "floppy disk" in both UAE and Fellow, but if you are lucky you won't encounter them. AGE will not show any of these problems - however it will take some time, before it gets released. Do not bug me for AGE: it will be released, when it is a working product - most likely shareware as it already took 18 months to develop -, not anytime before! If testers or anyone else needed I'll let you know. This program was completely restored from the original source material by Istvan Fabian, therefore it should be identical to the original product. The nasty copy protection was removed at the source level, so it should not cause problems during the game. Note, that all "cracked" versions had various issues, that were not obvious: like your party dying at the 13th minute of playing continuously; saving bogus and modified character data, if protection was not asked by the program; random crashes; some controls disabled - just to name a few... It took a day even for me (IF) to get rid of all the nasties hidden deep in the program's core. There is a French version included with this release, that probably missed the deadline when the original was printed. It is not necessary, but if you find this product enjoyable please contact the authors at the address written in the documentation. Remember, we have never ever received the royalties or other payments due for this game - or as a matter of fact, for Abandoned Places 1 (Amiga/PC: it was sold on German cds even in 1997, five years after the publisher breached the contract!!!), Piracy on the High Seas (Amiga) - so some kind of support - even just saying Thank You - is most welcome... You may as well send some gifts, a little donation or anything. Remember, (dislike popular belief) many game designer teams have quit the industry a long while ago, because they were ripped off by their publisher, not becuase they'd become stinking rich... And many of their games sold tens of thousands of copies that time, which may not compare well with today's unit sales, but that time it was a LOT. Just to let you know. Expect the release of the restored originals of the mentioned games as well, sometime in the close future. Oh, did I mention AGE...? Please note, that all rights are reserved, you can't sell this program for profit or put it on any kind of media - including cover cds etc. - without the written permission from Istvan Fabian. See the documentation for the license, info, history and other details. Best regards, Istvan Fabian & Ferenc Staengler 1, June, 2000. PS: I'm looking for serious partners (mostly investors) to develop Abandoned Places 3 (3d, real-time RPG). If you think, you fit the criteria contact me ASAP. The contact address is in the documentation. IF
