September 15, 1991 A-Sound Elite Manual Addendum Thank you for purchasing A-Sound Elite. Be sure to complete and send in the "Deltaware Products Registration Card" included with your Elite package. This will entitle you to receive a free disk of high-quality sound samples and AREXX sample scripts. The following information in the A-Sound Elite Manual has changed since its publication: Chapter One: Getting Started, p.7 "From the CLI" Paragraph 3 '1> execute "A-Sound Elite:Special/HDInstall"' should read: '1> "A-Sound Elite:Special/HDInstall"' Chapter Seven: Sampling Sound, p.85 "Directly to Disk" When recording to disk, the following settings are saved on the disk along with the sound sample, and are used by the PlayDisk command when the disk is played back: Playback Speed - sets the playback speed of the sample Loop Setting - allows a disk to be looped continuously Filter Setting - allows the hardware low-pass filter to be turned on or off when playing back a disk Volume Setting - sets the volume that the disk will play at ASF Repeats Setting - allows a disk to be looped from 1 to 65535 times ASF Priority Setting - sets the task priority that the PlayDisk command will use when playing a disk Chapter Seven: Sampling Sound, p.86 "Using the PlayDisk Command" Paragraph 2 "Note that the PlayDisk command temporarily suspends multi-tasking." The PlayDisk command currently does not suspend multi-tasking. Paragraph 8 "...multi-tasking will be suspended..." Again, the PlayDisk command doesn't suspend multi-tasking. Paragraph 8 "You can stop the PlayDisk command by pressing the left-mouse button." Pressing the left-mouse button does not halt the PlayDisk command. Instead, use Control-C to stop disk playback. Additional Notes 1. When using the psound.library, do not echo, monitor, or record at a sound sample rate higher than what is recommended in the Perfect Sound user's manual, or a system crash could result. Also note that the psound.library may not work reliably on accelerated machines. If this is the case, contact SunRize Industries to request an upgraded library. 2. A bug in Intuition causes window flags to become corrupted when a window closes while a string gadget is activated. This bug can occur with the file requester, when Amiga-L is used to exit the requester. We have developed a work-around for this bug that should prevent it from appearing, but you should be aware of it in case it occurs. If you are unable to set a range, but can set the cursor, this is a result of the system bug. If the bug manifests itself, we recommend that you save anything you're working on, close A-Sound Elite, and re-run it. 3. No definite standard for Amiga audio digitizers currently exists. Some digitizers may record with the right and left channels reversed. If this is the case with your digitizer, simply use EDIT/Swap R/L/Track after recording a sound sample. Alternatively you could create an AREXX macro to record a sound sample and perform the swap automatically. 4. The AREXX script commands SAVERASF and SAVETASF default to the ASF 2 format. Four additional AREXX script commands not listed in the A-Sound Elite Manual are: SAVERASF1 SAVERASF2 SAVETASF1 SAVETASF2 SAVESEQIFF 5. The AREXX script command "ECHO" has been changed to "ECHORANGE". 6. "Save" AREXX script commands used with the "V" (verify) flag, verify that the playback speed is within the maximum acceptable for the file format in use. Format Max Rate (bytes/second) ASF1 28867 ASF2 28867 IFF 65535 RAW n/a SONIX 8363 Note: These values are for NTSC machines - rates slightly different on PAL machines. 7. When using the AREXX commands EDITTYPE, SAVEOCTAVES, and MULTITRACK, the three commands should be used together and in the following order: a) EDITTYPE b) SAVEOCTAVES c) MULTITRACK If you attempt to use illegal combinations of the above commands (e.g., ASF 5 octaves), an error message will be displayed. 8. When saving instruments, keep instrument sizes (largest octave) below 130K. 9. AREXX is not included with A-Sound Elite. To use A-Sound Elite's AREXX port, you must first install AREXX (please refer to your AREXX user's manual for more information on how to install AREXX). 10. If you own a Perfect Sound 3.0 audio digitizer, the psound.library must be installed in the libs: directory for any Perfect Sound 3.0 digitizing menus (under the SAMPLE menu heading) to function. The library can be found on the Perfect Sound sampler disk. If you do not have the psound.library, contact SunRize Industries to obtain a copy. 11. When recording to disk, we recommend a sample rate of about 8 to 9 kilobytes per second. Attempts to record at higher rates will result in loss of sample data due to the limited speed of the Amiga floppy drive. Note that accelerated machines may allow a slightly higher sample rate to be used. Bugs in A-Sound Elite 1. When the psound.library is accessed by A-Sound Elite, a bug in the library can manifest itself. Currently, when SAMPLE/Record to Disk PS3 is used, a system crash can occur if PROJECT/Memory is selected afterwards, or the right-mouse button is pressed. Please be aware of this bug. A future work-around, or an update of the library (from SunRize Industries) should correct the problem. 2. Record to Disk does not work properly on the Amiga 3000 series. Omission The following keyboard equivalents were not included in Appendix F in the A-Sound Elite Manual: SHIFT-1 Track 11 SHIFT-2 Track 12 SHIFT-3 Track 13 SHIFT-4 Track 14 SHIFT-5 Track 15 SHIFT-6 Track 16 SHIFT-7 Track 17 SHIFT-8 Track 18 SHIFT-9 Track 19 SHIFT-0 Track 20 NOTE: A-Sound Elite requires the req.library included in the libs: directory on the Program Disk to function properly. After installing A-Sound Elite on your hard disk, proceed to copy the req.library to the libs: directory on your hard disk.
