Digital Creations Gizmoz Productivity Set A D D E N D U M PLEASE make a backup copy of this disk before proceeding further. Gizmoz is NOT copy protected!! However, along with this great freedom of unlimited backup ability we have given you, we also request a little courtesy on your part. Please, only allow the use of Gizmoz on YOUR machine. Rampant copying of programs like Gizmoz will only encourage greater copy protection methods on the part of software publishers everywhere in order to protect their investment. We believe that Gizmoz is a good product at a good price and therefore does not have to be copy protected in order to sell well. How about proving us right? We suggest that you make copies of your Gizmoz Productivity Set before you begin using this program. Save your original disk and only use these copies for everyday use. If for any reason you destroy or accidentally delete or erase a Gizmoz Tool, you will have a copy to recover from. Follow the instructions in you Amiga reference manual for copying diskettes or programs. Due to space constraints, the Gizmoz Disk does not contain a copy of the Workbench (Amiga's Operating System). Therefore, in order to more easily use Gizmoz on a single disk drive system, it is best to copy the Gizmoz programs that you are interested in using onto a Disk which already contains the Workbench. Thank You for purchasing The Gizmoz Productivity Set!! The following paragraphs represent additions to and corrections of several sections in the Gizmoz Productivity Set Users Manual. GIZMOZ Calendar The "CLOSE" menu option has been removed and its function has been incorporated into the "NEW", "OPEN" and "SAVE" menu options. GIZMOZ MemoPad Another file may be inserted into the MemoPad buffer by holding down a shift key while the "Open" Item is selected from the "Project" Menu. This allows you to "Paste" any existing file into the file you are working on. GIZMOZ Black Book The menu has been removed from the top of the screen in favor of a permanent requestor. You now can simply click and type in the name of the files for input and output and then click the "OPEN" button. Depending on the file type input, you will then be presented with selections that corre- spond with that file type. Two selections for page formatting have been removed. They are: "lines per page" and "pause after line feed". The default parameters that correspond to these are in PREFERENCES. Therefore set them in PREFERENCES. When printing calendars there is a new option which allows you to print only dates with information associated with them, within the range of dates specified. GIZMOZ Terminal A couple of items have been added to the CONFIGURATION menu. You can select between 1 or 2 stop bits.(See applicable documentation of the remote computer you are trying to use for the proper setting). The TRANSLATE IN option allows you to convert incoming characters, such as Carriage Return, Linefeed and Carriage Return/Linefeed combinations into Linefeeds, which causes the cursor to go to the beginning of a new line. Dialing has been changed to give you more flexibility. To set the autodial option, select either SETUP TONE or SETUP PULSE from the Command menu. Here, you can enter strings that will be emitted before and after the number is sent to the modem. Just click in the box of the string you want to change, and enter the new string. You can move left and right using the arrow keys and delete to the right with the DEL key and delete to the left with the BACKSPACE key. Pressing RIGHT- AMIGA X deletes the whole string. Now to dial, just select DIAL TONE or DIAL PULSE from the COMMAND menu, enter the number to dial, and press the DIAL gadget. The BREAK option in the COMMAND menu sends a .25 second break signal to the remote computer. Function keys for the various terminals are supported. The Tele-Video series has 10 function keys which can be shifted. These are generated by pressing the F1 throught F10 keys alone and with the shift keys. The ANSI, VT 100 and VT 52 terminals support only four function keys which cannot be shifted. The various character sequences generated by the numeric keypad in APPLICATION MODE are supported and map the equivalent keys in the AMIGA'S keypad. The TTY and ADM series terminals do not support function keys. NOTE: The "HELP" key always acts as the numeric pad comma (",") key. The ANSI, VT 100 and VT 52 display status lights are on the top of the display under the screens's title bar. To see them, select SHOW TITLE from the COMMAND menu. If the title bar is not displayed and the program appears to be frozen, press the RIGHT-AMIGA N to re-display the WORKBENCH screen. There may be a system requester displayed there which is preventing the program from continuing. Here are some cable specifications for persons wanting to construct their own cables. AMIGA DB25 P (male) IBM PC DB25 S (female) ------------------- ---------------------- 2 ......................... 3 3 ......................... 2 6 ......................... 20 7 ......................... 7 AMIGA DB25 P (male) MAC DB9 P (male) ------------------- ---------------- 2 ......................... 9 3 ......................... 5 7 ......................... 3 20 ........................ 6 IBM PC DB25 S (female) MAC DB9 P (male) ------------------- ---------------- 2 ......................... 9 3 ......................... 5 7 ......................... 3 20 ........................ 6 GIZMOZ Calculators The Programmer Calculator -- To save space on the AMIGA the computational mode has been removed, along with the keys associated with floating point arithmetic. The calculator is now dedicated solely to integer arithmetic. Octal numbers of any size are visible in the display. Binary numbers over eight bits are still displayed in blocks. The "." flag has been removed. Look in the menu under block to see which block is currently visible. The "v" flag will appear if both a carry and an overflow have occured. The "c" flag will appear if a remainder has resulted from a division operation. GIZMOZ Graph The graphs can be saved and then used in any program that utilizes the IFF file standard. When saving a graph choose "yes" when asked if you want to save a picture along with the data. Graphs are not erased when changing from one kind to another. All data in one graph will be used in the next graph. This allows you to enter data and then select which graph type suits your needs. Axis labels on the horizontal axis in the bar graph and the vertical axis in the column graph are automatically placed for you and cannot be changed. Default axis labels are used until you enter on of your own. Labels in the bar graph are limited to six characters. Slice labels in the pie chart are also limited to six characters. Labels in the column chart are limited to four characters, so any labels used from the pie or bar charts will be truncated. To change attributes in the pie graph, click directly on the attribute to change. If you wanted to change the size of a slice you would click on the size gadget associated with that slice. When entering the size of a particular slice, enter the actual value that slice represents. Its percentage of the display will be calculated with respect to the total of the numbers entered. To change a slice color choose a color from the palette and then click on the color gadget of the slice to change it. GIZMOZ Announce There are a few other options which are available from the CLI other than documented. These include a "type and talk" mode and phonetic speech options. Option Effect T Type-and-talk - before each line is spoken the line is sent to default output. H pHoneme input - the input stream (single line or file) is phonemes. G phoneme output - before each line is spoken the phonemes are sent to default output. (This can be used with file redirection and a volume of zero to create phoneme files, which you can edit and send back through Announce until it sounds the way you would like it.) Note: Within files you can change the speaking mode. Put the string "*Phoneme" at the beginning of a line to indicate that phonetic text follows. Put the string "*English" at the beginning of a line to indicate that english text follows. GIZMOZ Cuckoo Sometimes the sound will be stolen from the program if something, that has sound, has higher priority. When what ever stole it is gone you must toggle the sound on-off gadget to get sound back. GIZMOZ SuperLife There are two added features: 1. "CC"- Clicking this gadget, located in the lower lefthand corner of the screen, will clear the generation count. 2. Typing the "BACKSPACE" key will erase any marked region and will restore what is currently under it, if anything. Lifeforms selected from the library must be either "CUT" or "COPIED" before the copy buffer is changed. Then they can be pasted at will. When entering a name for the "ADD" and "DELETE" library functions, if a null name is entered the operation is canceled. The library is contained in a file called "Lifeforms. Lib". It has no icon associated with it so it must be mani- pulated in the CLI. For SuperLife to find it, it must be in the default directory. If it isn't found the file will be created on the default directory when you "QUIT" or "CLOSE" after having created some entries in the library. If the library is open and unchanged, it will not be written to disk when closed. "QUIT" also closes the library. If you empty the library its file will be deleted from the default directory on a "QUIT" or "CLOSE". If you type a command key sequence, and its correspond- ing menu selection is disabled, the simulation will halt, if it was running. By moving the cursor to a clear spot in the simulation area and clicking the select button the simulation will again be running. Version 1.2 of the OS will cure this problem. If an i/o error occurs during disk operations the system may put up a requestor of its own. You will know this has happened because the cursor will change shape. Pull down the screen or use "AMIGA-N" to expose the workbench and re- spond to the requestor. DO NOT TOUCH THE MENU BUTTON until you have made a response, otherwise the machine will lock up. This is due to an oversight in the current Amiga Operating System.
