A-Sound 2.01 - Manual Addendum Copyright © 1990 by Deltaware Products OVERVIEW A-Sound 2.01 is a minor upgrade that adds the following: · Perfect Sound 3.0 digitizer monitor (using psound.library) · Perfect Sound 3.0 digitizer record (using psound.library) · Vastly improved standard file requester · Support for PAL machines · Faster real-time status display updating · Smoother range selection · Improved choice of recording speeds · Distortion heard during Monitoring/Recording eliminated · Reduced program size and memory use · Minor bug fixes LIST OF CHANGES/ADDENDA TO A-SOUND 2.0 MANUAL: 1. All references to PAL incompatibility should be ignored, as A-Sound 2.01 recognizes PAL machines. 2. Page 29, paragraph 5 about distortion during Monitoring should be deleted. 3. Page 30, paragraph 5 about distortion during Recording should be deleted. 4. Page 30, after paragraph 5, add the following: A-Sound 2.01 will Monitor and Record using the left channel of the PerfectSound 3.0 hardware (requires psound.library). This library should come with your PerfectSound digitizer package, or may be acquired from SunRize Industries (assuming you are a registered PerfectSound 3.0 owner). This library must be in libs: before you run A-Sound if you wish to use the PerfectSound 3.0 functions. These functions behave like the Monitor and Record functions, except they are for use with the Perfect Sound 3.0 hardware only. Note that you may adjust the gain on your hardware while using the monitor function by using the cursor up and cursor down keys. Also, automatic gain control may be used by pressing the "A" key while monitoring. Please note that there are certain limitations to the PerfectSound 3.0 monitoring/recording which are due to the PerfectSound library. For example the current version of psound.library does not work correctly with accelerator cards. If you have an accelerated machine, you may write to SunRize Industries for an update to the psound.library. Since the psound.library only permits certain recording speeds, the recording speed that you select from the "Sample Rate" menu is not exactly what will be used when you use the "Record PSound3" menu. The closest allowable speed will be used. 5. Page 32, paragraph 4 about the File Requester should be replaced by the following: A-Sound 2.01 now uses the powerful CygnusEd Professional 2.0 file requester, contained in the freely-distributable req.library (included on the A-Sound disk). When you select an Open or a Save operation, the file requester appears, and begins reading the current directory (the directory that A-Sound was run from). You may at any time select a directory to read, or a file to load by double-clicking on the desired name, or by clicking once on the name, and then on the "OK!" button. File and directory names may be sorted alphabetically at any time by clicking on the left-hand drag bar or the arrows above and below it. Below are brief descriptions of the buttons, text input boxes and menus on the new file requester: Parent (Amiga-P) - returns back one level in the directory tree Hide/Display .info Files (Amiga-I) - no .info (Workbench icons) files are shown when listing directories to avoid "clutter" Drawer - the path can be entered in this box in the format "volume_or_device:directory/directory" (eg. DF0:Sounds/Instruments) File - holds the name of the file to be loaded Hide - supports a standard wildcard for hiding specific files Show - supports a standard wildcard for showing specific files OK! - verifies your selection Forget It! (Amiga-L) - aborts your selection and exits the file requester Programmers documentation for use of the req.library is supplied in an LZH compressed file (due to limited disk space) called "Req.LZH". A decompression program called LHArc is required to extract the programmers' documentation from Req.LZH. This program may be obtained at no charge from your local Amiga Dealer.
