Welcome to the first utility disk for nothing but Kickstart and Workbench 2.0 users. All of these programs should work with either the A3000 version of 2.0 or the 500/1000/2000/2500 Beta versions that have been passed out by Commodore. Though when the final release of 2.0, I'm not sure if the 1000 will be supported. However the beta versions do so it is not a prob- lem for so far. As this text is being written, all of these programs have been tested on a A500-20 meg HD A590-3.5 meg of ram(two on the A590, 512k on the main board, and a meg on a BaseBoard). Its also has been tested on a a decked out 2000 & a 2500. THis version of Kickstart and Workbench that is being used is the latest as of Dec 12, 1990. The versions are Kickstart 2.04 and Workbench 2.02. The date of Dec 12, 1990(11 12 90 as listed under the Kickstart ROM-euro dating system as you can see-is the latest and final release before real roms are sold by Commodore) though your version maybe higher or the real thing. Background: I decided to put this together because I was sick of all the crap that was being put out by so called 'utility' people. As far as I am concerned GOD Util disks are by far *THE* util disk of the Amiga. The rest are crap and should not be bothered with. As far as 2.0 stuff, I was quite impressed by the amount of utils that was showing up. After collecting them and keeping it, I thought it would be nice to release a 2.0 only util disk so that the people who can run it now(beta versions) and when the real roms do come out, those people can enjoy the most fantastic desktop ever put out on a computer!! I am so impressed with Kickstart and WorkBench 2.0 that I have deleted everything that deals with the cheezy 1.3 OS off my HD. I have a new set of standards, if it doesn't run under 2.0, multitask, or can not be put on an HD it gets deleted. That is how good WB 2.0 is! Help: The only help that is needed is with the new Startup-Sequence under 2.0 most of these programs. For some reason earlier versions of KS and WB 2.0( like around 2.01 and 2.02 releases) got really hostile when it came to you doing stuff with the startup-sequence. It really got weird when you added any of these programs to it. So I will give you some help full hints so that you do not have to pull your hair out trying to figure out why it will not work. ADDTOOLS: This was the first Util disk that I came across. It is written by Steve Tibbett the person who made VirusX. Now Steve can write a great util but when it comes to docs he can leave must to be desired. Now Steve says that you can slap Addtools in your startup-sequence like any ole program and it will be peachy. This is not so. Here is my suggestion: FIND THIS IN YOUR STARTUP-SEQUENCE: endif LoadWB Endcli >NIL: Now change it to this: endif LoadWB DELAY ;gives your programs more time to run before endcli Runback AddTools ; Runback is such a great util! Endcli >NIL: Thats it! It should come up for you ok. If it does not, I was add a WAIT 5 right after the RUNBACK ADDTOOLS. Also if you are going to add anything else like Cram-for baseboard users-, FastBlit-excellent!-, I would add it before LoadWB. They seem to work much better there. TOOLMANAGER: This had the same problem as AddTools so to fix it you do the exact same fix. Endcli >NIL: It should work great from here on out. APPICON I had no problems with this program at all. This is what I did: I coped the AppIcon program and the PrintIcon to my C dir and did this to my Startup-Sequence. Endcli >NIL: This is how I have it setup in my system. As you can see, if you want to add any other programs to your system you can just stick them in your startup-sequence like I have shown you. Some of you might be asking why we did not stick them in the new WBSTARTUP drawer that is supposed to execute anything upon boot up. Well some programs work well there and some work well under the startup-sequence. I had trouble with most of the programs on here when they were in the drawer so I just stuck them in the startup-sequence. If you are still not convinced that you like 2.0 because you are afraid that some programs may not work. Fear not, I have been testing 2.0 since the first versions were released a year ago and it was still only 256K and called 1.4. I can say with no doubts in my mind that I estimate a 95-97% compat rate with all software that is currently on the market. In fact some stuff did not start working again until this latest release of Kickstart and WB!! I think Windows 3.X, System 7.0 for the Mac, and TOS 1.6.X is total crap and is not even in the same relm of Kickstart and Workbench 2.0! Enjoy the programs and be thankful you did not buy another machine!! If anyone from CBM is reading this here is what we need to stay on top of the video market and make the Amiga *THE* machine for video: 32 or 64 bit chip set Let agnus address 6 megs of chip...hell go for 8 megs! True 24 bit on the main board better advertising-show the people how many computers we can emulate!! In Kickstart 3.0 add protective memory so we can have all the emulators run in different windows and multitask!! Work with NewTek when building the Amiga 4000 or 5000 Push the Amiga 3000 AX in the Unix world-*THAT* will sell more Amiga's then anything and give lots of money to CBM.
