C M BASE Amiga Version 0.80 ======================================== (c)1993 by Jens Vogler With special thanks to: Wolfram Schmidt Soenke Freitag Karim Senoucci Diese Arbeit möchte ich den wenigen Menschen widmen, die mich nicht in Stich lassen. Introduction ------------ This is the first official release of CMBase for the Amiga. CMBase is a program to show the "VTC" Virus Catalog in a more comfortable and easy way than the standard ASCII-files can do. VTC stands for "Virus Test Center" and is part of the University of Hamburg. CMBase Amiga is, as the original MsDos program, free of charge. Allways remember, however, that the program is copyrighted. You are not allowed to change the program or any part of the packet in any way and you are not allowed to demand a price for it. You can only offer it free of charge (as we do). If you WANT to "pay" a small fee, please send me one bottle of your favorit beer, a CD (single?) of your favorite band (But no international "trash" like Madonna or Prince. Are there any "local" stars singing in your language? I mean stars like Mecano in Spain, Lisa Nilsson in Sweden, or Hanne Boel or TV 2 in Danmark. [Can anyone tell me what kind of music TV 2 makes ?]), a nicely "designed" EMail, or just a postcard with a picture of you and/or your hometown. Something inexpensive, but that means something to you. So, be creative! (Well, banknotes are welcomed, too. ;-) ) You can find my address later on in this file. ONE WARNING ----------- This program is written in assembler, you don´t have any debug code, no monitor routines controlling stack overflows or something like this. I cannot give you any kind of guarantee. Contents -------- This release of CMBase includes following files: o CMBase0.80 o CMBase0.80.info o CMConfig0.80 o CMConfig0.80.info o CMBase0.80.Doc (this file) o Install.Doc o Read.Me o AMIGAVIR.90 - AMIGAVIR.93 o AMIGA.TXT o AMIGAVIR.INDEX o ATARIVIR.91 o ATARI.TXT o ATARIVIR.INDEX o MACVIR.90 - MACVIR.93 o MAC.TXT o MACVIR.INDEX o OTHERVIR.93 o OTHER.TXT o OTHERVIR.INDEX o MSDOSVIR.89 - MSDOSVIR.93 o MSDOS.TXT o MSDOSVIR.INDEX Using CMBase ------------ Start CMBase by calling it with name and path. If you gave your configure file a different name than "CMBase.Config" or if its in a different directory, then type the different name in starting with a minus "-" or a slash "/" and a quotation-mark and end it up with another quotation-mark: e.g.: sys:CMBase/CMBase -"AnotherDir/another.config" CMBase now tries to read in the configure file and to open the index file for the choosen computer system. Then you can see following window: _____________________________________________________________ | (1) _____________ ______________________________ _ | | Amiga []| 0 1 2 3 4 5 | |=1st=ENTRY=NAME===============| | || | Atari []| 6 7 8 9 A B | | 2nd ENTRY NAME | | || | Mac []| C D E F G H | | 3rd ENTRY NAME | | || | MsDos []| I J K L M N | | ... | | ||(13) | Other []| O P Q R S T | | (10) | | || | | U V W X Y Z | | | | || | |-------------| | | | || | (2) (3) (14) | | | || | [ | SYS ] [ICON] | | |=|| | [(4) Filter ] | | | || | [(5) Overview ] | | | || | [(6) Install ] | | | || | [(7) About ] | | | || | [(8) Search ] | | | || | _____________________ | | | || | | | | | | || | | (9) Help | | | |_|| | | | | | [ ]|(11) | |_____________________| |______________________________| [ ]|(12) |_____________________________________________________________| In this window are different functional gadget groups. At the top left edge (1) are "radio button" gadgets to change the computer system the viruses are related to. To see and change which computer system is the actual one, there is a circle gadget (2), showing the actual system name. Pressing this gadget (2) you switch to another database, too. You change the actual database in the following order: ... -> [Amiga] -> [Atari] -> [ Mac ] -> [MsDos] -> [Other] -> ... There are shortcuts for these gadgets. Pressing the -key is like pressing the circle button (2). Pressing + you change the actual database the other side round: ... <- [Amiga] <- [Atari] <- [ Mac ] <- [MsDos] <- [Other] <- ... To choose one database directly you have to press : + "Q" for the Amiga system + "W" for the Atari system + "E" for the Mac system + "R" for the MsDos system + "T" for the Other system The alphanumerical area (3) right of the system gadgets exists to set the number or letter the first displayed ENTRY NAME have to start with. If there is no ENTRY NAME starting with this number or letter then the next ENTRY NAME - in alphanumerical order - will be the first one. The Shortcut for this function is: Press the number or letter - you want to be the first displayed one - on your keyboard (without !). The filter (4) at the bottom of the alphanumerical area serves to display only ENTRY NAMES containing the filter string. To start the input press the gadget with the mouse pointer or press the key. Shortcut: + "A" E.g.: If you only want ENTRY NAMES to be displayed containing the string "trojan" (There are not only viruses in the catalog, there are trojans, bombs, worms, ... too.), then type here in the string "trojan" and your wish become true. If there is no ENTRY NAME including your filter text the display area will be empty. To see all entrys again just clear the filter string. The gadget "Overview" (5) is to show how which virus relates to the others. This function starts by pressing the gadget with the mouse button or the key. The "highlighted" virus names in the overview indicates viruses included in the Virus Catalog. To see one of these entries you can "click" the name with the mouse. Shortcut: + "S" Pressing "Install" (6) by mouse or key displays a menu similar to the one of the "CMConfig" program. The meaning of the gadgets are the same, too. Remember: The helpfile directory gadget is uninteresting, because there are no helpfiles ´till CMBase V1.0! Shortcut: + "D" "About" (7) - available by mouse or key - just displays the startup window again. Shortcut: + "F" The "Search" function (8) (starting by mouse press or key) is useful if you are looking for CMBase entries including a special string, e.g. entries written by one author. Your are first asked for this string and CMBase then starts to search the string in all CMBase entries. If it found the string in entries, there names will be listed and you can start reading them. They are represented the same way like the ENTRY NAMES in the main window and you can take your pick the same way, too. To close this window just use the close gadget (top left window corner) the or the key. Shortcut: + "G" One Tip: If you want to search one string more than once (e.g. if you search one name in different databases) you can start the search function each time as told before. --- Or you press: + "H" for the second, ... search. This function doesn´t ask for the search string again and starts the search immediately. The help gadget (9) has no function related to it ´till version 1.00 of CMBase. The big display on the right side (10) shows the ENTRY NAMES for all (filtered) entries for the actual computer system. To select one ENTRY NAME move the "cursor" (the revers line) onto it. You can move the cursor by the and keys for moving the cursor one Position at the time, + , + , or for one whole page at a time or by , or to move the cursor to the first or last ENTRY NAME available. To select a displayed ENTRY NAME directly, move the mouse pointer over it and press the left mouse button once. To read the entry for the selected ENTRY NAME, just press , , or . To read the entry for any displayed ENTRY NAME press the left mouse putton twice while the mouse pointer is over the ENTRY NAME. The "arrow gadgets" on the right side ((11) and (12)), do the same like the (unshifted) and keys. The Slider (13) above the "arrow gadgets" does what you think it should do. It´s there for faster moves within the ENTRY NAMES. The "ICON" gadget (14) iconify the window. You can use it to have a better look at the workbench for a short term. To open the window again, select the "Icon" by left mouse button and then press the right button once. The close gadget ends the whole program. The actual language can be changed by: + Y for Deutsch + X for English + C for Français + V for Italiano + B for Español The window showing the entries (called from the main window and from the search function) and the virus overview can be managed with the same keys (and the three gadgets to the right). There are just following differences: 1) , , , to , and all Shortcuts don´t work. They make no sense here. 2) To leave these windows you can use the and the key in addition to the close gadget. To end CMBase use the close gadget or the key. Now it is up to you ------------------- CMBase is not perfect. It still contains bugs and is not the optimum. But I don´t know which feature you miss, what happened during you tried to work with CMBase on your Amiga model/ operating system version (it´s written on an A500 with OS 1.2! ). Or is something in this "manual" written in a misunderstanding way? So if there is something you want/have to tell me, please let me know! You will help me, yourself (because the next versions will have "your" bug fixed) and all other CMBase user. 1) Please send me bug reports! I want to add a help system (something like a nice interactive/hypotext-like system), too.
