MediaController 4.0 3/14/95 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The MediaPhile System requirements are: Operating System: AmigaDos 2.0 or higher RAM: 15MB including at least .5MB of Chip RAM Hard Disk Space: 3MB Font: Topaz 8 required Screen Resolution:600 horizontal x 400 vertical lines recommended. 400 vertical lines required. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS: MediaController is multitasking so it can be run several times to create a control pad for each of your devices. MediaController detaches itself from programs from which it is called. This means is that programs like MediaEditor and MediaProcessor can run several copies of MediaController at one time. Execution of the calling program continues as well. The current MediaPhile device name is displayed at the top with the counter display just below it. Two rows of five gadgets each used for device control are located at the bottom of the MediaController window. Two new gadgets synch the counter to SMPTE time code read in through a MediaPhile controller, and toggle the keyboard "qualifier" command . From top-to-bottom, left-to-right the gadgets and their corresponding functions are: Frame Back Backspace the tape or optical disk by one frame. Rewind Rewind the tape or disk. Play Put the device in play mode. Fast Forward Fast Forward the tape or disk. Frame Forward Advance the tape or optical disk by one frame. FUNC This is the MediaController function gadget. The default function is to toggle the keyboard qualifier command. It provides the same function as pressing the RIGHT AMIGA and HELP keys together. Refer to the MediaController manual for a complete explanation of the keyboard qualifier function. Stop Send a STOP command to the device. Pause Put the device into PAUSE mode. Record Send the RECORD command to the device. SMPTE Synch MediaController 2.0 REV 2 has the ability to CLOCK use SMPTE Time Code to re-synch its tape position index. A MediaPhile Controller with the SMPTE time code option must be connected to the SMPTE audio output of your device. Rever to the TCGEN ReadMe file on this disk and your MediaController hardware manual for more information. SMPTE time code can only be read in PLAY mode so put your device in play before selecting the SMPTE synch gadget. When the gadget is clicked with the mouse, SMPTE Time Code will be read from the device's audio track and used to the MediaController tape position index. If there is no apparent change in the counter display, either the position index is already in synch with the time code or no Time Code was found on the audio track. If the tape position index window displays what appears to be an erroneous value, select the gadget again. The audio time code signal coming from the device may be noisy or incorrect time code may have been recorded on the audio track. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reading SMPTE Time Code: Standard SMPTE time code can be dubbed to a source tape linear track with the TCGen program. The time code is read through MediaPhile controllers to correct control track, reel sensor, and edit port tape position information. Time code is not read continuously. It is read only during preroll in an automated search or when the "clock" icon of the MediaController program is clicked. After the time code is read, it is used to reset the tape position display and internal counters. Tape position is determined by other means thereafter. Several device file parameters must be set to make use of SMPTE time code. They are listed below. SMPTEAdust: This parameter provides an adjustment, measured in frames, to be added to the SMPTE time code tape position read from the device. The adjustment compensates for the time required to process the time code data. If this parameter is not set in your device file, a default value of three frames is added to the time code value read from the tape. ToSMPTE: This device file parameter is required for video decks and camcorders that have infrared controll over the audio monitor function. When time code is to be read, a series of audio monitor commands are sent to change the audio output from the tape "HiFi" tracks to the "NORM" linear track. After the time code is read, another series of audio monitor commands is sent to toggle the audio output back to HiFi for recording. The number of audio monitor commands required to change from a HiFi audio output to the NORM linear track output is entered for the ToSMPTE parameter. The default is 0 indicating that the deck does not have an audio monitor function that can be controlled with infrared commands. ToHiFi: This parameter is used in conjunction with the ToSMPTE parameter described above. It is set to the number of audio monitor commands required to toggle the audio output from the NORM linear track to HiFi. The default is 0. In addition to setting the MediaPhile device file parameters described above, the audio monitor command infrared code must be properly positioned on the MediaEditor code file screen for the device. It must be read into or moved to position #52. Load the code file for the JVC6700 for and example of correct code file positioning.
