First  of  all I'd like to thank Wild Rage for his fab idea of issuing a pure
literary   mag.    THANX,mate!!!    (ed.:    THANX  to  YOU  for  your  great
short-stories!). At last the penpushers (I'm one myself!) get a chance to get
their  stories published to a wider audience than family, friends, neighbours
and relatives!

In  answer  to  911/The  Silents'  letter  in  "SCENE LYRICS 2", about a book
corner,  I'd like to give a little contribution to this new feature in "SCENE
LYRICS". Really do hope Wild Rage will include the feature!

As an ancient wizard, I'm more or less forced to read loads of fantasy books.
A  pleasure really, apart from prying loose my petowl's droppings on the more
interesting pages.  He's a fiend as well as a bookworm!

I  don't know how well-known an author like Terry Brooks is in the Scene, but
in "my book" he's the greatest fantasy writer ever!  Surpasses even the grand
ol' Master, Tolkien!

Brooks'  books  can  be devided into two main categories; the Shannara Series
and the Magic Kingdom Series.

I'd like to give U a tiny peep into the Shannara world.

Set  in  the  mytical  "Four Lands", the Shannara books tell the story of the
Ohmsford  family.   A family doomed to pick up the gauntlet of magic in their
struggles  against  the  Evil  Forces roaming the Four Lands.  The Four Lands
harbour  gnomes,  trolls, dwarfs and elves, as well as stupendous evil beings
like  the  Skull  Bearers  and  the Shadowen.  Evil stalks the Four Lands and
threaten  the  existence  of  mankind itself!  To the heirs of Jerle Shannara
fall  the  quests  to  try  and  save  the Lands from nigh on indestructable,
horrendous Evil!

The  books are exceedingly well written in a too seldom seen (or rather read)
captivating  style.   Brooks  is a master of the art of making his characters
come alive.  Personalities with all their short-comings, doubts and hopes are
presented to the reader.  U really get to know each and every one!

To  quote;  "For all those who have been seeking something to read since they
finished "The Lord of the Rings".  Here is a wonderous new Fantasy!"

Beware  though!   Open  one  of  the Shannara books and U're lost!  Ur nights
won't be Urs to control anymore!  The candles of midnight will surely burn in
Ur Keep night after night after night ...

The  Shannara  books  are  published by Orbit Books, as are the Magic Kingdom
books.

My mailbox is a bit shabby these days.  Every day when I come home from work,
I  dive  into  it, searching frantically among bills, letters, packs from all
and sundry,...looking for Ur package of goodies!  Do hope it'll arrive before
I abuse the mailbox to death!  BINGO!!
