Additions to the KCS version 3.03 manual as of 5-2-90: Cracked & Released on 19th of July 1990 by VISION Some changes have been made in the operation of the Internal Sounds portion of the pogram. 1) When "Change Path(s)" is selected, instead of an edit window which requires you to type a destination path, a modified file requester now appears which allows easier selection of a Drawer. 2) A new option, "Copy All Instruments", has been added. This option copies all of the actual IFF sample files currently loaded to a destination directory of your choice. Remember, .SND files only contain the NAMES of the sample files, not the samples themselves. If you want to do something like copy an instrument bank to a floppy disk, you can use this option to copy the necessary samples. Make sure to create a new .SND file using the location of the copies of the sample files. Use the "Change Path" option to change the path for all of the currently loaded instruments, and then select "Save Instrument Bank". **************************************************************************** Additions to the KCS version 3.0 manual as of 12-19-89: Several additional features have been added to the program since the new manual went to press. They are... 1 - Loading and saving of files is now possible from the Track Play screen! 2 - The Project Menu now sports a "New" option which clears all tracks, sequences and songs from memory. A requester will ask you to verify your desire before wiping everything out. 3 - The Options Menu on the Track Play screen now includes the options "Clear All Tracks" and "Seq to All Tracks". These function as they do from the Edit screen. 4 - The SPLIT window, available on the Track and Open mode Edit screens, now supports a number of new options which may be selected in any combination. The options allow you to split any range of notes, or any controller information out on to another track. In addition, a "Channel" option allows you to restrict the split data to a given MIDI channel. Or, if the only option selected is "Channel", any MIDI information on that channel will be split. Splitting notes: Select "Note Range" and set the bottom and top note fields to the desired value. Splitting controllers: Select the desired controller(s), if you want one that does not appear by name, you must select "CC" and set the corresponding field. Splitting channels: Select "Channel" and set the corresponding field to the desired channel. If "Channel" is the ONLY field selected, all MIDI data on that channel will be split. Otherwise, MIDI data of the selected type(s) will be split only if they are on the desired MIDI channel. 5 - The Channel Assign window, one of the Transform Menu options available on the Track and Open mode Edit screens, has one addition. Selecting "Remap Channel" and setting the corresponding fields allows you to remap MIDI data on a specific MIDI channel to another MIDI channel, leaving MIDI data on other MIDI channels unaffected. When the "Channels" options is selected, the function will work as described in the manual. 6 - "Count-in" is now an on-off switch on the Environment screen. Before, the only way to disable Count-in was to set the value to zero. Now, you can leave the value set and just turn the switch on and off. 7 - "MIDI Clk on Count-in" is now one of the options on the "MIDI" portion of the Environment screen. When selected, MIDI clock (if enabled) will be sent during Count-in as well as during track play. When not selected, MIDI clock (if enabled) will not begin until after the Count-in. 8 - The Environment Menu contains 2 selections that pertain to Phantom usage. "Phantom On" is used to connect and disconnect the KCS from the Phantom. If the Phantom is not running, the phantom library is loaded from disk. When KCS is connected to the Phantom, a check mark will appear. The other selection, "Show Phantom", makes the phantom window visible so that its parameters may be examined and/or changed. 9 - The current Phantom settings (smpte format, offset and dropout time), are now stored in KCS .ENV and .ALL files. When a .ENV or a .ALL file is loaded these settings are inserted into the Phantom if possible. 10- Note that there are three files in the Libs: directory on this disk that pertain to the Phantom. They are "Default.fan", "InfoPic.dat" and "phantom.library". If you boot your Amiga on this disk, the Phantom will be ready to go (as soon as you purchase the hardware). Otherwise, you will need to install the Phantom as described in the Phantom documentation. 11- The "Close WorkBench" option has been removed from the Environment menu. Closing the WorkBench doesn't really seem to have much effect on performance. If you want better performance, use the "Raise Priority" option (see #12). 12- A "Raise Priority" option has been added to the Environment menu. It is not a terribly friendly thing to use in the AMIGA environment, and is intended for use mainly when laying tracks onto tape or when recording critical sections. When selected, the KCS program will, DURING PLAY ONLY, run at a higher priority than all other programs, thus giving you its best possible timing accuracy. The side effect is that while the KCS plays, all other programs will seem to go to sleep. In many situations, this will not be noticable, but is something you should be very aware of. The effect of "Raise Priority" is automatically interrupted whenever you move the mouse or press a key or whenever the KCS screen is not the active screen. Leaving the mouse and keyboard alone for 1 second while the KCS plays (and is the active screen), will reinstate the higher priority. Therefore, you won't notice any difference with multi-tasking except when KCS is active and is playing or recording, which is exactly the situation in which the higher priority is desirable. If, for example, you select "Raise Priority" and run a graphics program behind the KCS, the graphics program will go to sleep whenever the KCS plays, and will run normally at all other times. Note that the AutoMix program will not receive Midi information from the KCS when "Raise Priority" is active and the KCS is the active program. Therefore, the next time you activate AutoMix, it's faders and program change display may not be up to date. 13- There is no file called KCSFontData on this disk, contrary to what it says on page 8 of the manual. To install KCS on a hard disk, just copy the main program and DEFAULT.ENV to a drawer on your hard disk. If this is a Level_II disk, you should also copy DEFAULT.VRY. When you run the program from your hard disk, the system will ask you to insert your original program disk for a brief period during startup. That's all for now DSS
