THE COLOR PALETTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Color Palette is used to create a custom set of 16 colors. These 16 colors can be chosen from the 4,096 colors available on the Amiga. The Color Palette is selected from the Project menu by selecting PALETTE-EDIT or by pressing the F9 function key. The Color Palette can be called up and edited from any screen. LOADING AND SAVING PALETTES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A palette can be saved as a file. A palette directory is included on the Calligrapher disk to store palette files. Use the CLI to delete a palette file as necessary. COPY PALETTE ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Color Palettes can be copied FROM or TO any Font, Brush, Pattern or Style. Each of the 4 file types has palette information saved inside of its file. The palette information of these files can be copied from one to another. Palettes are important for use with ColorFonts because each Font can have a unique color palette. The F10 function key will bring up the Copy Palette menu. The COPY FROM SCREEN and COPY TO SCREEN boxes are both referring to the screen color palette. COPY FROM SCREEN will copy the current screen palette to a Font, Style, Pattern or Brush. COPY TO SCREEN will copy the palette from a Font, Style, Pattern or Brush to the screen. Here's an example: 1. Make sure that the appropriate Brush, Font, Pattern or Style is  loaded and selected. A Brush must be loaded from the Edit screen.  Fonts, Styles and Patterns must be loaded and selected (displayed  in inverse video in the File Scroll Box) in their screens. Use  SYSTEM STATUS (F8) to verify that the proper files are loaded and  selected. 2. Click on the appropriate TO or FROM option below either the COPY  FROM SCREEN or COPY TO SCREEN prompts. 3. Click on the Copy gadget in the lower left portion of the menu.  Click on the RESTORE SCREEN gadget to undo the selection. 4. Click on the EXIT gadget or press any key to exit. After editing a palette, the Copy Palette menu is automatically displayed. The Screen palette is the palette that has just been edited. Use the COPY FROM SCREEN selections to save the palette information into the appropriate Font, Pattern, Style or Brush. RGB SLIDERS ~~~~~~~~~~~ Three slider gadgets are located at the top of the Color Palette requester box labeled R, G and B for red, green and blue. the Amiga allows 16 shades each for red, green and blue. Select one of the 16 colors in the paint set by placing the pointer over the color and pressing the Left Mouse Button. To edit a color, move the pointer to the R, G or B slider diamond; press and hold the left mouse button while moving the mouse to the right or left. The color position 0-15 will be displayed to the right of the color slider gadget. UNDO will restore the original colors. RANGE ~~~~~ The Range gadget is valuable because the exact color can be seen and selected. Click on the Range gadget with the Left Mouse Button to open a window with all 4,096 colors. Move the pointer into the window and point near the color that is desired. Clicking the right button will move into the area that is pointed to , and the left button will move towards the original display. Holding the mouse button down while moving the pointer in the box allows a quick review of the colors. There are two boxes to the right of the Range window. The left box shows the selected color and the right box is the starting color. Clicking in these boxes closes the Range window. click in the right box to return to the palette menu with the original color. Click in the left box to select the new color. SPREAD ~~~~~~ The Spread gadget creates equally spaced graduations across colors. To create a Spread, first select a starting color from the paint set. Move the pointer over the Spread gadget and press the Left Mouse Button. Move the pointer to paint set and select the ending color for the spread. The colors in between the first color selected and the last color will be a series of intervening shades between the two colors. UNDO will restore the paint set to the previous setting. COPY ~~~~ Use Copy to move a color from one location on the palette to another. Select a color with the Left Mouse Button, click on the Copy gadget then click on the location in the palette to be copied to. SWITCH ~~~~~~ Switch is used to exchange colors from one location on the palette to another. Select a color with the Left Mouse Button, click on the Switch gadget then click on the color to be swapped with. UNDO ~~~~ The Undo gadget allows the last Color Palette action to be reversed. This feature allows a mistake to be reversed. Only the last action performed can be undone. RECOVER ~~~~~~~ The Recover gadget will return the Color Palette to the starting colors when the requester was opened. This feature allows experimentation with the knowledge that the original settings can be restored. HELP KEY ~~~~~~~~ If a color palette is modified so that there is no contrast between the first 2 colors, the screen gadgets may become impossible to see. The HELP key on the keyboard will restore the default color palette so the gadgets can be seen.
