SquizStore V1.3 Documentation This program is Kickstart 2.0+ only SquizStore & ConfigSS are Copyright (C) 1993 Paul Colclough. The two files named above are freely distributable, as long as this archive is distributed in full, individual files are not allowed to be distributed from the archive. In the following text, AUTHOR means PAUL COLCLOUGH. ************************************************************************ * * * DISCLAIMER * * * * THIS SOFTWARE AND INFORMATION IS PROVIDED "AS IS". * * NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES ARE MADE WITH RESPECT TO THE * * ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, PERFORMANCE, CURRENTNESS, OR OPERATION * * OF THIS SOFTWARE AND INFORMATION, AND ALL USE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. * * THE AUTHOR ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY OR LIABILITY WHATSOEVER WITH * * RESPECT TO YOUR USE OF THIS SOFTWARE AND INFORMATION. * * * ************************************************************************ Right, now that's out of the way, I'd like to tell you that ANY bug reports will be gratefully received and you will get 100% reply to all questions ! --- Note ! --- SquizStore relies on 3 library files to be present in your Libs: path: 'reqtools.library', 'powerpacker.library' and 'commodities.library'. These are not included in the archive to keep size down, - and also the download time down. Make sure that these two library files are installed BEFORE running SquizStore (although I you do try to run it without them it wont crash, it will just display and error message and refuse to install itself) Installation --------------------------------------------------------------- SSTORE03.LHA program requires a bit more setting up than previous releases so documented here is a full installation guide, basic knowledge of the AmigaShell is assummed. 1. Drop into a shell and CD 'RAM:' 2. Make a directory called 'STMP' and CD to it. 3. Copy the SSTORE03.LHA archive into the current directory. 4. Make sure LHA is in a program search path and type "LHA X #?" 5. Delete the archive SSTORE03.LHA from the ram disk if the archive extraction was Okay, other go back to the first step and start over. 6. Type the following "Copy SquizStore C:" "Copy SquizStore-Handler L:" "Copy TellSS C:" 7. As long as all the above commands did not return and error you can know delete the contents of the STMP directory with: "CD RAM:" "DELETE STMP ALL" 8. If you have a crunched version of reqtools.library or powerpacker.library or even 'commodities.library' then you will have to make sure the first couple of commands in your startup sequence are the following: "PPLoadSeg >NIL: NIL: NIL: ", type "$C" and the file will be crunched and saved. Alternatively, you can set permanent crunching (see configuring the program) Or, your can use either "PPCrunch" or "PowerPacker" to crunch'em. Just make sure you crunch EVERYTHING as data files! (That goes for executables as well) Decrunching things... ------------------------------------------------------ I'd advise to set this up permanently in the config ed. But if you like typing then giving a filespec such as "$D" instead of just "" will work perfectly. Environment Variables ------------------------------------------------------ An older version of SquizStore did have a HotKey for the Configuration program, but since this is no longer present, the HotKey has been removed. Notes on $C, $D and $L ----------------------------------------------------- MatchFirst() and MatchNext() are NOT patched (yet) so if a program uses these to get a filename, then you will not be able to use the commands for it. Fortunately, not many programs use these functions. Wildcard running (RunWild option in TellSS) -------------------------------- If you set the RunWild option by using TellSS then you can do some quite special things with your miggy, eg: 1.0.WB3:> AVeryLongExecutableFile -i1 -l1 -o tmp Can be transformed into: 1.0.WB3:> AVery#? -i1 -l1 -o tmp Note that if ambiguous wildcards are used (Ie. matches more than one file) then the first file it files will be executed. This can be very dangerous, So make sure nothing *is* ambiguous ! Eg you type the following meaning 'DiskSalve #?': 1.0.WB3:> D#? #? and the program could translate this into: 1.0.WB3:> Delete #? Deleting your whole current directory! Anything made resident by the use of the 'Resident' command this program will not pick up, It will only work with loading programs from a true filesystem (Like DF0:, DF1: DH0: RAM, etc) If you any other bugs.... -------------------------------------------------- Please tell me so I can fix em! Tell me which program it was in (either ConfigSS or SquizStore) and how you got it. Thanks! Suggestions ---------------------------------------------------------------- I am very interested in Suggestions and/or improvements to the program, so if you have any, please contact me and your name will appear in the credits list of the next release. New Versions -------------------------------------------------------------- New versions of SquizStore will be uploaded to Aspects BBS (061 792 0260), File Area 90 before it is uploaded anywhere else. Freq name is "SSTORExx.LHA" where xx is the version id, Eg this version you are now reading the docs for is ID 03, So the Freq name is "SSTORE03.LHA". You are welcome and encouraged to spread this version to any BBS you logon / use, but please use the same filename "SSTORE03.LHA" to prevent confusion when newer versions are released.
