Notes on Hard Disk Installation for Amigas with 512K of Chip Ram The Wings program requires at least 1 Megabyte of memory and uses the Amiga's graphics memory (chip ram) resources to the maximum extent possible. If your Amiga has only 512K of chip ram (such as an A1000, or an A500 or A2000 without the "Super Agnus" chip set) you may only be able to play Wings off of the floppy disks (depending on your particular Amiga setup). Tips to Minimize Chip Ram Usage Make sure that your S:STARTUP-SEQUENCE script loads only the files that are needed for hard disk operation (i.e. don't start unneeded programs, create a RAM: disk, multi-task other applications etc.). Make sure that all open windows are closed so that the WorkBench can be closed. Disconnect any external disk drives that may be connected (make sure the power is off first!). If these attempts fail (or are too confusing) you can still play Wings from the floppies. RAM: Disk Installation for Amigas with 3 Megabytes of Ram Use the HDInstall icon and specify a pathname such as "RAM:Wings" and the game will install to the RAM: disk. The same cautions about chip ram still apply and you will need to copy the "Reel 2/pilot.dat" file to a floppy to keep your saved game after the Amiga is powered off (and copy it back next time after you install Wings). When installing to RAM: here is a handy trick to save enough chip ram: 1. Boot your Workbench disk. 2. As soon as you see the CLI window appear press CTRL-D to stop the Startup-sequence. 3. Type "LoadWB" and press RETURN. 4. Type "EndCLI" and press RETURN. 5. Insert "Reel 2" and double-click on its icon. 6. Double-click on the "HDInstall" icon. Install to "RAM:Wings". 7. Remove all Wings diskettes. 8. Double-click on the RAM: icon. 9. Double-click on the Wings drawer and then double-click on the Wings icon. This doc is brought to you by THE FROZEN WAVE CULT (c)
