MediaPhile Software Installation Guide 4/1/93 To install your MediaPhile software, choose an installation program on the MediaPhile_Libs: disk. Use the table below to determine the one for your system. Amiga System Installation Program ------------ -------------------- Floppy Disk System FloppyStartup Hard Disk with AmigaDos 2.04 or LOWER Install_MediaPhileHD_2.0 Hard Disk with AmigaDos 2.1 or HIGHER Install_MediaPhileHD The use of the installation programs is described in this file and in the Overview manual. After running the installation program for your system, add the MediaPhile assignment statements to your startup-sequence file. These statements are printed on the screen after the disks are installed. Be sure to write them down as they are listed. For example, the assignments required to run MediaEditor from a Hard Disk have the format: Assign Mediadevs: /Mediadevices Assign MediaPhile: /MediaPhile Assign MediaFiles: /MediaPhile/MediaFiles ***************************************** Floppy Disk System Installation: 1. Prepare a MediaPhile Workbench disk by running the "FloppyStartup" program on the "MediaPhile_Libs" disk. This program deletes programs from the Workbench Utilities and Fonts directories to make room for the MediaPhile libraries, and it coppies the libraries to the Workbench libs directory. The following assignment statements should be entered into your startup-sequence or User-Startup file in the s: directory on your Workbench disk. ;MediaPhile Startup Sequence Starts Here Assign MediaFiles: MediaPhile:MediaFiles Assign MediaDevs: MediaPhile_Devs: Resident c:Run pure ;MediaPhile Startup Sequence Ends Here Make the entries below the last "path" statement and just above "LoadWB delay". Use a text editor like the AmigaDos ED program to make the changes. 2. Boot the system with your MediaPhile Workbench disk in DF0: (the internal disk drive). Follow the system requests for disk insertion by placing the requested disks in the external drive. Do not remove the Workbench disk from the internal drive. 3. Insert the MediaPhile and MediaPhile_Libs disks in the second disk drive for two drive systems when they are requested . If you are using a single drive system replace the Workbench disk in drive DF0: with the requested disk. 4. Replace the Workbench disk with the MediaPhile disk after the boot startup procedure is complete . Open the MediaPhile disk icon by clicking twice with the left mouse button. Run the MediaController and MediaEditor programs by clicking on their icons. ***************************************** Hard Disk System Installation: To install the MediaPhile programs on your hard disk:" 1) Create or choose a "Destination" directory drawer to contain the MediaPhile programs. This drawer MUST be located inside of a logical hard disk partition drawer. For example, if you have a Work: partition on your hard drive, create a MediaPhile directory drawer inside of the Work: partition drawer to act as the destination directory and hold the programs. 2) Make sure that your destination drawer is visible on the monitor " screen. Do not open the destination drawer at this time. " 3) Open the MediaPhile_Libs disk icon and click once with the left mouse button on the Install_MediaPhileHD program icon if you are using AmigaDos 2.1 or higher. Click on Install_MediaPhileHD_2.0 if you are using a version of AmigaDos numbered 2.04 or lower. Hold down the shift key, and double-click on the hard disk destination drawer icon. 4) The installation process begins at this point and the MediaPhile programs are copied into the hard disk directory drawer that you have selected. 5) The installation program asks which MediaPhile software programs you wish to install or update. You may choose any of the following programs: MediaPhile Utilities MediaProcessor MediaPhile Servers MediaBase 6) If you are installing MediaPhile programs for the first time, you MUST choose to install at least the MediaPhile Utilities Program disks. If you are installing updates of MediaPhile programs currently on your hard disk, all of your old files will be DELETED and replaced with the latest versions of the software and device control files. If you wish to save your current device control files or EDL script files, copy them to a storage area before proceeding. These files include .code, .config, .dev, .kbd, .mb and .ms files that you have customized for your system. 7) The installation program displays the assignment statements that need to be added to your system startup-sequence file following the last "path" statement just above "LoadWB delay". Enter these assignment statements with a text editor after the MediaPhile programs have been copied onto your hard disk. The install program executes the appropriate assignment statements as the programs are copied, provided that you remove the MediaPhile disks when requested. The assignment statements that must be executed for each program are shown below. MediaPhile Utilities ******************** assign MediaDevs: MediaDevices assign MediaPhile: /MediaPhile assign MediaFiles: /MediaPhile/MediaFiles MediaProcessor ************** assign MediaProcessor: /MediaProcessor assign MediaFiles: /MediaFiles The MediaFiles: assignment statement above replaces the assignment of MediaFiles: to the MediaPhile/MediaFiles directory in the Utilities disk assignment statement. MediaPhile_Servers ****************** assign MediaPhile_Servers: /MediaPhile_Servers MediaBase ********* assign MediaBase: /MediaBase The is the full AmigaDOS path to the destination directory you have chosen to hold the MediaPhile programs. For example, if you have created a MediaPhile drawer in the Work: partition of your hard disk to hold the MediaPhile programs, then the destination path is Work:MediaPhile and the first assignment statement above reads: assign MediaDevs: Work:MediaPhile/MediaDevices. NOTES FOR ALL SYSTEMS: Some programs and utilities conflict with the normal operation of the MediaPhile system. The following is a list of programs known to be incompatible with the operation of MediaPhile programs: SetCPU SetCPU is a public domain utility and is distributed with all GVP accelerator boards. Any version prior to 1.60 does not allow MediaController to run from its icon. MediaController can be run from either MediaEditor or the CLI. This utilitiy may also cause MediaProcessor to crash on start-up. Look for SetCPU to be run from your start-up sequence when the system is booted up. Remove versions earlier than 1.60 from the start-up sequence. Versions 1.60 and later are compatible with MediaPhile programs. Grabbit This hot-key activated screen grab program will prevent MediaController from running. If you need to run MediaController and Grabbit at the same time, run MediaController first before loading Grabbit. Toaster Run the Toaster software first and put it in the background by pressing CTRL, CTRL, ALT, ALT keys in sequence. Now you can run MediaController.
