¶N¤þ02 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD! þ01 ¢02 Written By: ¢03The Heavyweight/Devious. ¢01 There is more than one list of 7 wonders, but this is the original. ¢03 1. THE PYRAMIDS. ¢02 Sometimes all the Egyptian pyramids are included but purists count only the three great pyramids of Khufu, Khafri, and Menkaure at Giza. ¢03 2. THE HANGING GARDEN OF BABYLON. ¢02they never hung as thier title implies. They were roof gardens. The exact place has never been found, but they wwere watered from pumps connected to the Euphrates. ¢03 3. THE STATUE OF ZEUS AT OLYMPIA. ¢02This must have been a most wonderful sight as the statue of that god, 9 meters high, was in a gold plate seated on a throne also of gold, ivory and possibly gems. ¢03 4. THE TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS AT EPHESUS. ¢02 Built around 550 BC, its fame was on two counts; it's size, which was over 110 by 55 meters, and its display of great works of art. ¢03 5. THE MANUSOLEUM OF HALICARNASSUS. ¢02 Halicarnassus is now in Turkey, Mansolus was king of Caria and at his death, c. 350 BC, his widow, Arternisia, built this immense tomb. ¢03 6. THE COLOSSUS OF RHODES.¢02 The bronze-covered statue, internally reinforced with, about 30 meters high, was built to the sun-god Helios, so that all whow saw it would remember the raising of the siege of Rhodes in 304 BC. It cost 300 talents, took 12 years to build and was finished in 280BC. ¢03 7. PHAROS OF ALEXANDRIA. ¢02 A lighthouse built on the island of Pharos just off the coast of Alexandria. What the light was is not known for for certain - possible a permanent bonfire at the top or perhaps a mass of oil burners.
