CRAPS ACADEMY INSTRUCTIONS Part 1. Getting Started STARTING CRAPS ACADEMY Insert the Craps Academy disk into df0: when the workbench disk is requested. You may begin making bets when the table appears. THE PLAY SCREEN The play screen shows about 2/3 of the craps table. Outside the rim of the table is Player 1, with a $500 bankroll. The number of players, player names, and bankrolls can be altered with the player setup menu described in Part 2. The current shooter's name is shown in white. Each player's bankroll is in the form of chips near the players name. Chips have the following denominations: Blue $100 Red $ 5 Yellow $ 25 White $ 1 HANDLING THE CHIPS Bets are made by putting a stack of chips on one of the bets marked on the table. A chip stack is made by clicking the left mouse button on the bankroll chips. Each click on a bankroll chip moves one chip to the stack. The stack is shown on the rim of the table near the player's name. The total amount of the stack is also shown. A chip stack is picked up by depressing and holding down the left mouse button while the pointer is over the chip stack. As long as the left mouse button is held down, the stack will move as a mouse pointer. When the mouse button is released, the stack is left at the current location. If the stack is moved to the player's name or bankroll area, the stack will be returned to the bankroll. Several chips can be added to the stack by pressing a number key on the keyboard. For example, push the 4 key then click on the $ 100 chip and $400 will be added to the stack. Any of the keys 0-9 can be used, 0 will give 10 chips. Clicking in the area above the chips will add the amount of the last bet to the stack. PLAYER HANDLED BETS Before the dice can be thrown, the current shooter must make a pass line or don't pass bet. Bets are made by putting a chip stack on one of the bet areas marked on the table. A pass line bet is made by moving a chip stack to the table area marked PASS LINE. Other bets which can be made in this way are: Don't Pass Field Big 6 Big 8 Come Don't Come Pass Line Odds The chip stack must be larger than the minimum bet (usually $2). When these bets may be made is subject to certain rules. The rules of craps are described in Part 3 of this manual. DEALER MESSAGES If a bet is not put in the proper location, the dealer will adjust it. When bets are made that don't conform to the rules, the dealer will inform the player what should be done. The dealer messages appear in the table rim at the top of the table. Dealer messages remain in the table rim for only a short time. Selecting SLOW SPEED on the Prefs menu will allow more time for reading the messages. DEALER HANDLED BETS Place, Buy, Lay and Odds bets (except Pass Line Odds) are made by giving a chip stack to the dealer and telling him what bet is desired. In Craps Academy, this accomplished by selecting one of the following bet buttons at the top of the screen: PLACE NUMBER BUY NUMBER LAY ODDS CENTER BETS Pressing the left mouse button over one of these buttons will result in a new set of buttons which allow you to select the exact bet desired. If a Place, Buy, or Lay number bet is selected, a group of 6 buttons will appear labeled 4,5,6,8,9,10. Selecting one of these will indicate which number the bet should be placed on. Once the number is selected, make a chip stack and place it on the table in the area marked COME. The dealer will then move the stack to the proper table area. If the Center Bets button is clicked, a new set of buttons will appear showing the several bets in the center of the table. Click on the desired bet button and then move a chip stack to the COME area on the table. The dealer will then move the stack to the proper center bet area. CHANGING A BET The rules allow some bets to be changed at certain times. Selecting the Change Bet button makes a new set of buttons appear. These buttons allow a bet to be pressed (increased), taken down (returned), or turned on (working) or off (not working). Certain bets are automatically off on come out rolls, however, the player can force them to be on with the On selection. THROWING THE DICE Once the bets have been placed, the shooter throws the dice by clicking on the Throw Dice button at the top left of the screen. Alternately, the Pass Dice button may be clicked. This makes the next player the current shooter. When the dice are thrown, the view of the table will scroll across the screen, so that the dice can be seen bouncing and rebounding from the opposite end of the table. After the dice come to rest, the stickman pushes them back to the center of the table. Viewing the roll of the dice is an option which may be turned off. Experienced players may prefer to turn off the table scrolling in order to speed up the play of the game. Part 2.
