AMIGA Plus Disk Instructions
 If this is your original disk that came with AMIGA Plus,
           PLEASE MAKE A COPY IMMEDIATELY!

    You will be able to print this file (Disk8.doc) after you exit this
    text display program.  Look at the bottom of this window for
    instructions on moving through the display.  This "Instructions" scroll
    can also be used to view and print any other text file.  Just click the
    instructions icon, hold the shift key, and double-click on the text
    file.

    This disk features many programs which can be run by simply
    double-clicking on their icons from the Workbench.

This AMIGA Plus disk #8 contains:

Synthia Strings -- The Plucked Instrument synthesis module from
     The Other Guys' Synthia sound synthesizer software.  This powerful
     program will let you create and manipulate IFF Instruments to use with
     your favorite Amiga music software.  To run Synthia, first double-click
     on the AssignSYNTHIA icon in the Synthia drawer, then double-click on
     the String icon.  We have included some sample IFF instruments in the
     Instruments drawer to get you started.  Load these instruments by
     clicking on Synthia's LOAD button.  You can now hear your instrument by
     typing on your keyboard.

Finney -- Something's fishy here -- it's the winner of our
     Shoot-Em-Up Construction Kit Contest.  In Finney, you are a lone (but
     well armed) goldfish trying to swim through the plumbing to return
     home. To play this colorful and challenging game, just double-click on
     the Finney icon (it's the fish with the machine gun turret). A screen
     will open up and inform you that "the Logo" can't be found. Click the
     mouse to continue anyway -- we didn't have room to include some of the
     title screens on this disk. To exit the game click both mouse buttons
     simultaneously, then click on the upper left corner of the title screen.
     Users with only 512K of memory should be careful about the number of
     windows open on the Workbench screen. Each window eats up precious
     memory. If you have any problem running Finney, close all windows that
     are not needed.  You may have to drag the Finney icon off the disk,
     leave it right on the Workbench screen, then close all the other open
     windows and try it. If it still doesn't work, reboot and try again. To
     copy this game to another disk, you must also copy the directory
     edit_files and its contents to that disk, as well as the game and its
     icon.  To copy the entire edit_files directory to a disk called Finney:
     use the following CLI command:
             COPY AmigaPlus8:edit_files TO Finney:edit_files ALL

Jah -- Dan Wolf's CLI Remote Commander is an ARexx utility that
     allows you to send commands to your ARexx compatible applications from
     the CLI or from a script. Use this program from the CLI only, as
     follows:
             JAH Portname Message
     Remember that portnames are case-sensitive. JAH will send your message
     to the port you specified (if it can find it), wait for the reply,
     then print it to your screen.  The assembly language source code
     (JAH.asm) is on disk along with FRED. FRED is a simple CLI program
     which will receive and reply to a message. Reprised from AMIGA
     Plus #4, FRED is useful for testing JAH. The port opened by
     FRED is called FRED (all caps).  To play with these programs, open two
     CLIs, type FRED in one, then run JAH in the other, sending fred a
     message (i.e. type :  JAH FRED Hello! )  After FRED receives,
     prints, and replies the message from JAH, it exits. Additional
     programming notes for JAH are in the file JAH.doc.

GC3D -- Colliding Galaxies 3-D is Jim Lawrie's computer simulation
     of two galaxies colliding.  Double-click on the icon to start the
     program, then help it select the initial conditions for the target and
     intruder galaxies. Hitting RETURN at the prompts will make the program
     use the defaults it displays. Type P to pause or restart the program at
     any time. Some interesting initial conditions are listed in the magazine
     article.  Use these as the starting point for your own experimentation.

ScreenStars -- An amusing interstellar screen blanker by Arnie
     and Aki. Just double-click on the ScreenStars icon to start it
     running. After 2 minutes without any input, your Amiga screen will
     turn into a starship windshield -- until you hit a key or move your
     mouse. You will know ScreenStars is running if you see a little
     star-filled window on your Workbench screen titlebar. To remove
     ScreenStars, click on the starry window, then click the REMOVE! button.
     You can move the starry window by clicking on it, then moving the Remove
     window to a new position and clicking on the close gadget (or on any
     other window) to close the Remove window. The default mode for
     ScreenStars is a Hi-Res screen with head-on stars and a two minute
     delay.  To change the defaults, run ScreenStars from the CLI, and
     specify a delay between 1 and 9 minutes on the command line, as well as
     the modes, L for Lo-Res, S for a side view as follows:
        RUN ScreenStars S L 5
     The defaults can also be changed by editing the ScreenStars icon's
     ToolTypes -- click on the icon, choose INFO from the Workbench menu, and
     set the ToolTypes entries accordingly: To set the Lo-Res mode add the
     ToolType RES=lores, to set the side view mode, add MODE=side, and to
     specify a delay, DELAY=n where n is a digit from 1 to 9.  To return any
     of these settings to their defaults, delete that tooltype entry, or set
     it back to the form in which it appeared on this disk.

BugEye -- An ANIM of Gene Hamm illustrating the "Tex Avery" style
     of animation/video effects which Gene details in his Hidden Performer
     article.  Double-click on the BugEye icon to call Superview3.0 and show
     the animation.  You can pause and single-step the anim with the SPACE
     bar, and restart it with the RETURN key. Click the right mouse button or
     hit the Escape key to quit.

KirlianRed -- An IFF picture by Sylvia Pengilly which illustrates
     the painting and color cycling techniques described in her "Painting
     with F5" article. Double-click on the KirlianRed icon to call
     Superview3.0 and show the picture.  Use the TAB key to toggle the
     color cycling.  Click the right mouse button or hit the ESCAPE key to
     quit.

DFC -- An excellent, redistributable Disk Formatting and
     Copying (D.F.C., get it?) utility by Tomas Rokicki (Radical Eye
     Software). DFC can format up to 4 floppies at once, make multiple copies
     of an original disk from a RAM buffer (if you have some extra RAM), and
     replace both Format and Diskcopy on your Workbench disk, while taking
     less disk space than either one.  To use DFC, double-click on its icon,
     then click on the disk drive button in the leftmost column which
     corresponds to the drive your original (source) floppy is in.  Now click
     on the disk drive (or drives) where your destination disk(s) will go.
     You should see lines connecting the source drive button on the left to
     the destination drive buttons you selected.  Hit the GO button to start.
     To format disks, use the format button as the source disk and optionally
     type a name into the text box next to the FORMAT button. To make
     multiple copies, click on the BUFFER ON button. Now DFC will read the
     source disk into memory then write it out to the destination drives. If
     you select DF0: as source and destination and DF1: as another
     destination, the disk in DF0: will be read, then DFC will ask you to
     insert the destination disks and hit retry.  This will let you copy to
     disks in both drives at once! To make two more copies, just insert new
     disks and hit the AGAIN button.  Further instructions are in the DFC.Doc
     file.  C Language source code for DFC is in dfc.c.

SuperView3.0 - David Grothe's incredible IFF picture display
    program plays animations too!  This redistributable utility is used to
    display the BugEye animation and KirlianRed picture on this disk. Hit the
    space bar to freeze the animation, return to advance the frame, and
    escape or the right mouse button to exit.  The tab key will now stop the
    default color-cycling on many DPaint pics. Full docs for SuperView3.0 are
    also included.



   The entire disk has been processed with Blitz A Disk (B.A.D.) from M.V.
   Micro (distributed by Centaur Software Inc.) in order to speed up disk
   access. The format is the same as all AmigaDOS disks, but the files have
   been reorganized so that the icons are found and displayed quickly.
