The original versions of Klondike (up to 1.22) were written entirely in 68000 assembly using Devpac and a 1/2 meg A500 with two drives. Subsequent versions were developed using a GVP Series II hard drive and 3 meg, and my trusty, snail speed A500 :-( VERSION 1.0 The very first (and extremely rare) version of Klondike. I only had a standard 1/2 meg Amiga then and being a relatively new to programming this machine, didn't really understand the difference between chip and fast memory. The result being that version 1.0 didn't work on expanded Amigas. VERSION 1.1 o Modified to work on expanded Amigas. Klondike made its first public appearance in the form of v1.1, on the March 1991 cover disk of "Amiga Computing". VERSION 1.1b o Now runs properly from Workbench; no need for Xicon or Assigns. This means that you can copy the game to hard drive by simply dragging the whole Klondike drawer over. o Number of games played displayed on Hi-Score table. o Reset Hi-Scores option added. o Bug fixed that let you place a column of cards on the foundations. This version was released by a few British Public Domain libraries. Some people seem to need a little gentle persuasion before they'll part with their money (can't understand why myself), and so this version only allowed around thirty games to be played. An annoying (although I think quite amusing) "Addiction" message then popped up, covering the hi-score table. You could carry on playing by resetting the scores, although this spoiled the game a bit (aarrr !) VERSION 1.1c o NTSC option added for USA. o Credits menu added. Klondike started to hit the rest of the world thanks to good old Mr Fish who included it on disk #491. The thirty games shareware reminder seemed to be doing the trick quite nicely, so stayed with this version; sorry chaps ! VERSION 1.2 o Merge Hi-Scores feature added allowing a friend's scores to be copied over to your hi-score table o Merge Hi-Scores Help and Versions menus added. o A couple of minor bugs fixed, although I can't remember what exactly. This is a full version, sent to registered users. VERSION 1.21 o Bug fixed that caused the game to crash occasionally on completing the game. VERSION 1.22 o Card movement was jerky when the game was installed on my GVP hard drive. This was fixed by making the "frame flyback" routine slightly more legal (but still a bit dodgy !). VERSION 1.3 o Noticed that a valid card could be placed on a face down card before it had been turned over. Bug now fixed. o "Card Backs", "Card Faces" and "Card Symbols" menu options added to allow graphics preferences. o ACBM card graphics file split into three ILBM files enabling new card combinations to be easily created with Deluxe Paint. o Oh No ! "Lemmings" card graphics designed (but you can't have them unless you've registered :-( sorry ! Released on Fish #740. VERSION 2.0 Massive update : o Workbench 2 look, even for 1.3 users. o The rather hurriedly coded V1.3 suffered from "Deluxe Paint II Font Syndrome" and could only cope with around twenty card graphics files. The graphics preferences were therefore moved from the menus to a file requester. o 2 or 4 corners option for card symbol positions. o Card Sets added to enable each card to be individually designed, rather than just the picture cards. o Cards can now have transparent bits cut out of them to produce battered and torn cards. o Can now handle 16 colour card backs and sets. o Card movement is now faster, smoother and legal. A full column of thirteen, eight colour cards can now be shifted around the screen without a glitch on a standard A500. o Tableau spaces are now highlighted by Kings. o Proper text window for help files, including a Print option. o Watch pointer during snooze periods. o Pause option. o Time elapsed, displayed during play. o Optional help pointer showing when cards need dealing from deck. o Message informing player when the end is nigh ! o Feature to show where the aces are hiding. o Unlimited Undos. o Double clicking on a valid card will send it flying to the foundations. This quicker method is worth slightly less points than dragging a card to the foundations. o Three different game rules. o Hi-Score table now displays the time taken and game rules used for each entry. o Sound preferences allowing easy selection of in game sounds. Sound files are IFF 8SVX so you can easily create your own samples. o Multiple Hi-Scores files for each set of game rules. o Hi-Scores manager allowing removal and copying of scores between two hi-score files. VERSION V2.0c o All the features of V2.0 except Sound Effect "Create", "Select Hi-Scores" "Create", "Hi-Scores Manager" "Copy/Delete", and "Game Rules" "Single Card Deal" options removed.
