DOS-2-DOS V1.0 Release Notes

Thank you for purchasing Dos-2-Dos.  We encourage you to
return the postage-paid Dos-2-Dos registration card to us so
that you will be eligible for support and product updates.
We will also send you information about other new products
for your Amiga.

But the best reason for returning the card to us is that we
will send you a new manual, free of charge, to replace the
one which you received with the product.  The new manual will
reflect the changes outlined here.


PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS

BACKUP FILES ON DISK

For your convenience, we have included two copies of
Dos-2-Dos (called D2D and D2D.backup) and two copies this
READ.ME file on your distribution disk.  Copy D2D to your
working Workbench disk, and print this READ.ME file  We
suggest that you keep a copy of the READ.ME file with your
Dos-2-Dos manual.  And then put the Dos-2-Dos distribution
disk in a safe place.


3.5-inch DISK SUPPORT

You can use an external 3.5-inch Amiga disk drive to read
and/or write MS-DOS files on IBM 3.5-inch disks.  Dos-2-Dos
supports the IBM 720KB format and the Transformer 360KB
format.  Dos-2-Dos always formats 3.5-inch disks to 720KB
format.  Note that you MUST use the external 3.5-inch drive.
Dos-2-Dos does NOT permit you to use the internal 3.5-inch
drive for MS-DOS files.

In order to keep AmigaDOS from interfering with file
transfers on the 3.5-inch drive, Dos-2-Dos turns off the
AmigaDOS driver for that drive.  When you exit Dos-2-Dos, you
must reboot Workbench if you want to use the 3.5-inch drive
for regular AmigaDOS uses.  If you do not reboot Workbench,
AmigaDOS will put up a requestor if you try to access the
3.5-inch external drive.  Of course, the internal 3.5-inch
drive is unaffected by this.


FORMATTING DISKS

Disks formatted by Dos-2-Dos do not include a boot record.
This means that such disks cannot be booted on an IBM
machine.  They can be used to transfer files to and from IBM
machines.


ASCII and WORDSTAR FILE CONVERSION

Dos-2-Dos now provides optional ASCII line ending conversion
and WordStar file conversion.  To invoke the file conversion
option, you must include -A on the COPY command line, as
shown below:

          COPY DF2:MYFILE.ASM -A

When copying from MS-DOS to AmigaDOS, Dos-2-Dos strips
carriage returns, and all other ASCII control characters
except line feed and tab.  Tabs are not interpreted.  The
high order bit of all bytes is removed, providing Wordstar
compatibility.

When copying from AmigaDOS to MS-DOS, Dos-2-Dos adds a
carriage return in front of every line feed.  No other
conversions are performed.

If you do not specify the -A option, Dos-2-Dos transfers the
exact number of bytes specified by the file length parameter
of the directory, with no conversons.


REPLACE OPTION

Dos-2-Dos now supports an option to automatically replace the
destination file, if it already exdists, instead of asking
if you wish to replace it.  To invoke the replace option, add
-R to the COPY command line.  The replace option is most
useful during wild card transfers.


AmigaDOS WILD CARD LIMITS

Dos-2-Dos supports only two wild card options for AmigaDOS
files: the '?' and the '#?' options.  The general pattern
matching options of other AmigaDOS programs is not
supported.


DEFAULT DRIVE and CURRENT DIRECTORY

Dos-2-Dos treats your current AmigaDOS drive and directory as
the default for COPY, TYPE, DIR, and DELETE operations.  This
means that you DO NOT need to include the drive or path if
the current AmigaDOS directory is either the source or
destination of the transfer.

Example:   COPY DF2:*.ASM -A

This command transfers all files with a file type of ASM from
the currently selected directory on DF2 (the MS-DOS drive) to
the current AmigaDOS dirctory (which could be on either DF0
or DF1).  Note the -A option which you need for ASCII files.


MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

Dos-2-Dos supports both CD and CHDIR for changing direct-
ories.

TO and FROM are NOT supported in the COPY command line.  The
source file specification ALWAYS comes first on the COPY
command line, and uniquely determines whether the transfer is
to or from the MS-DOS drive.

The Dos-2-Dos prompt is now:

        D2D>

instead of:

        *

TYPE converts tabs to a single space.  This is for display
purposes only, and does not imply any such conversion in the
data file.  Note that the Dos-2-Dos TYPE command is written
to display files of either system, despite the differences in
line endings.  Therefore, you cannot depend upon TYPE to
reveal whether or not a file was properly converted.

The date/time stamp on all files transferred from MSD-DOS to
AmigaDOS is the current date/time as set up in AmigaDOS.  The
date/time stamp of the MS-DOS file is not preserved. How-
ever, all files transferred from AmigaDOS to MS-DOS do have
the date/time stamp of the original AmigaDOS file.

The Dos-2-Dos DELETE command does NOT support wild cards.

There is a quirk (read that BUG) in AmigaDOS V1.1 which
causes it to be confused if you change AmigaDOS directories
from inside Dos-2-Dos and then exit.  AmigaDOS remembers the
directory you are now in, but if you inquire, (using the CD
command) it reports the OLD directory you were in when you
started Dos-2-Dos.  This quirk has been corrected in AmigaDOS
V1.2.

We have tested Dos-2-Dos with AmigaDos Release 1.2 version
33.39.  Everything is fine with that version, but we cannot
guarantee what will happen with the final (?) version of
AmigaDOS V1.2.
