Operation Combat II - By Land, Sea, and Air - Amiga Loading instructions Operation Combat II will run on any Amiga computer (4000, 3000, 2000, 500, 600, and 1000 series) that has at least 1 meg of RAM (500K of CHIP RAM), under all AmigaDos operating systems from 1.2 to 3.1. There are two Amiga formatted disks in the Operation Combat II box: the Program Disk (OPCOM2), and the Data Disk (OPCOMII). Please make copies of these disks, if you plan to play from floppies. Playing from Floppies ********************* Booting from the Program Disk... -------------------------------- You may boot directly from the Operation Combat II Program Disk, by placing it in drive df0: after you power on your computer. Place the Operation Combat II Data Disk in another drive, if you have one. Or if your computer has but a single drive, follow the system prompts as to when to swap the Program Disk with the Data Disk. Open the directory by double clicking with the mouse on the Operation Combat II (OPCOM2) icon. Then double click on the Combat II icon to start the game. Booting from a Workbench Disk... -------------------------------- You may also boot from your regular Workbench disk, then insert the Operation Combat II Program Disk. Open the directory by double clicking with the mouse on the Operation Combat II (OPCOM2) icon. Before starting the game, please run OPCOMFILE_ASSIGN. You may now double click on the Combat II icon to start the game. If you have only 1 meg of RAM in your Amiga, you may experience difficulty starting the game after booting from your Workbench because of a low memory condition. In this case, please boot directly from the Program Disk, and the game will load without further difficulty. Installing on a Hard Drive Operation Combat II uses the Commodore Installer Program for Hard Drive installation. The program Install_CombatII can be found on the Program Disk. Start the install program and simply follow the prompts. Operation Combat II will create a directory on your hard drive at the location you select, and copy its files into this single location. Three assigns will also be added to your S:User-Startup (under AmigaDos 2.0 or greater) or your S:Startup-Sequence (pre - AmigaDos 2.0). Note on Playing for the First Few Times *************************************** The Turn Length Time selected in the Options Panel only effects human play time. The Operation Combat II computer opponent always takes less than 3 minutes to make all moves in a turn, regardless of the Turn Timer setting. It is advised that for your first few games, the Turn Timer be set to 240 or more seconds, and that NOVICE be selected as the play level. MODEM Play ADDENDUM ******************* With some modems it may take 10 to 20 seconds to make a connection. Please be patient and do not click the mouse button until a connection has been established. During modem play the player who is not moving will not have a menu. If you need to get at the menu, just point the mouse pointer on the Text/Menu bar and click the left mouse button. If you experience modem play difficulty with modems with built-in compression (MNP5, v.32bis, etc.), try turning the compression off by using the custom Dial string AT\N1DT and Answer string AT\N1S0=1. IMPORTANT!!!!! Make sure that the Serial Prefs on you Amiga is set as follows: Baud Rate - 2400 to 9600 Input Buffer Size - 4096 or more Handshaking - NONE Parity - NONE Bits/Char - 8 Stop Bits - 1 Note: In particular, check that Handshaking is set to NONE. Anything else will prevent some of the moves to be correctly transmitted when a NULL modem connection is established. +++ End of Readme file ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
