(Tiny remark from 1995 first: When I wrote that article, MACNO and the other editors mentioned were all personaly unknown to me.) Hello, nice to meet you here again to the small editor's bit and I really hope you will enjoy it just as half as much as I personally do. My name is - as you may have recognized before - RokDaZone; or, if you wish to, Henning Brau. Now that you got to no me a bit better you will sit there in front of your monitor, the hand still laying on the mouse, ready to click the 'menu-gadget' if this article is going to be boring and you are asking yourself what this guy, typing, wants to tell you. Getting impatient? Well then, let us start: Therefore, please answer these four small questions: 21.) What hardworking guys get the fewest responds and respect from the scene? 22.) Who is making the fewest - if any - money out of his work? 23.) Which job is the most understated in and by the scene? 24.) Which job seemingly everybody believes to be able to compete in? Answered them all? So, what was your conclusion like? No, it is neither the coder, the musician, the swapper nor the artist. 2It is the editor! 1Well, I am sure, you even did not think about that. What, the hell, do you think makes a diskmag famous? Right, the coding, music and gfx. But what makes it become good? Also right: THE CONTENT! 3Take this as a example: You get a diskmag with an astounding code, superb music and frightenly good gfx but weak and few articles. What are you going to do? You will look at it like a child on X-Mas... and forget about it after reading it once. A diskmag of average code, music and gfx, but with a widespread variety of interesting and exciting articles and an easy-to-read lay-out, however, will remain in your mind, because you keep in front of your monitor for hours, reading nearly every single article that might be interesting. So, why are editors still regarded at as second class dudes? I do not know about any group, having a member who is an editor only, although nowadays, many groups run a diskmag... In my opinion, this is sad, because I discovered several talents between an enormous mass of dilettants, e.g.: - 2MOP/ALCATRAZ 1(I don't think, he copies his short stories from books) - 2PRRAK/CATASTROPHY 1(His 'plays' taste deliciously of EDIKA and MONTY PYTHON) - 2MACNO/GRACE 1(The highlights of SCENELYRICS#1 were his short stories) - 2RokDaZone 1(Just kidding... ) I think, people of their qualities should be payed more attention, because they work twice as hard as others, by being forced to do 'conventional' jobs (swapping, coding, ... ) AND writing! I simply want to tell you about what it means to be an editor. Many people just write articles for any mags, because they want to prove loyality to their contacts, releasing a certain mag. Others are just horny to get a free advertisement; also there are guys, pretending to be important and just writing some lines to prove that they are, by seeing their name in the freelance tables. Still, there is a last quite rare group: The Editors. Real editors do not write, because they are wanted to write by others. 2Real 2editors write, because they have to! 1They love to hear good stories and they tell good stories. It does not matter in any way what topic it is - they have to write, because in their inner chambers, deep down in the edges of unconsciousness, there is a coloured metastasis, taking visual effects of the outer world over the eyes and producing stories. But not only the eyes, also the ears, the mouth. To cut a long story short, the senses. This metaphorical ball grows and grows, the more stories it produces and the editor gets into a status of daydreaming, if he can not find a way to let it all out. Writing therefore is some kind of ventilism for phantasmagorical overpressure (this is MY personal explaination. Call it nonsense, if you wish to!) The writer, author, editor or whatever you may call him (although all these pseudonyms are signing separate professions, dealing with the same feature: Writing) uses his imagination as his hobby (what a small word for a big job) and provides the the listener or reader with thoughts. If he is good, the audience will take these thoughts and create their own dreamworld, basing on directions, the writer sets. Remember 2J.R.Tolkien 1or 2Assimov1? The 'normal' writer is payed by the hopefully positive reaction of his readers. Positive here means the whole spectroscope of feelings - depends on the intention. Hate can be beautiful... If a writer is payed for his work, however, his writings can not longer be regarded at as a hobby (stupid small word, indeed); now, it is art! This mag, however, does not contain 'art', means no payed-for stories (if there are some, I have got my leg pushed...). The interested reader will find young writing talents, telling us stories of red, green, blue or simply dark metastasis; and also I myself shall try to do my best to transmit you - dear reader - into a new world. I am afraid, I have got to stop now, because my metastasis grew fat again and whispers words of darkness. I think, I am going to open the cage a bit and let the beast from outtamind jump around.
