Many of 2these AMIGAs have been frequently used as sampleplayer to create music for 2instance using ProTracker. Isn't it obvious, somewhere, this unique working on 2the AMIGA influences modern music? 2What you are about to read seems utterly unbelievable, yet it is the plain truth 2- without this specific dealing of samples in the Tracker-series on the AMIGA, 2one of the hippest dancemusics of our decade wouldn't be what it is nowadays: 2JUNGLE - is it even thinkable without the AMIGA? 2This is the real sensation, brought to you by 3THE MARVELLOUS(!) LUNATICS BALL1. 2Investigation has been done by E-NOZ, who slipped into the whole affair by 2accident - or let's say: By CHANCE... 2>>> RokDaZone/INFECT <<< Yeah, wicked an'wild Jungle-beas comin'up stronga! Boo-yakka. JUNGLE is tha hippest thang nowadays. Invented in the streets of London, it is the follower of the socalled Rave - for all who don't know it. Hits have been tracks like 2"incredible" 1from 2M-BEAT & GENERAL LEVY 1and 2"Original Nuttah" 1from 2SHY FX & UK APACHI1. Nowadays, the whole ragga-bunch seems to have settled over to Jungle. Prominent names: 2CUTTY RANKS1, 2BABY D1, 2DADDY FREDDY 1(Guinessbook of records entrance for being the world's fastest rapper), 2IBIZA 1and 2ROB BASE & DJ 2E-Z ROCK1. For being a dancehall-freak for long, I always swapped tapes of own mixes with several mates all over Europe. It was a letter of my mate 2FULER PAZE 1who is a deejay in a smaller city near to 2London1, who made aware of something special. I wrote to him before that I am doing my tunes on AMIGA. He wrote something like the AMIGA is the coolest computer there is and that he knows kids who used the ProTracker to create breakbeats by having drumloops cutted down into small parts and rearrange these. He ended this paragraph by saying that many deejays learned how to create breakbeats with their real equipment. 2(3Comment 1: 2As much as I doubted this story before - I though E-NOZ wanted to 2joke around - this seems logical. The AMIGA is a cheap computer mainly known 2for games, so one can expect her spread in not so wealthy circles even more. 2RokDee) I got curious and asked in my next letter what he meant by deejays learned how to do breakbeats from the AMIGA and he replied that the dancehall deejays first simply took Funky Drummer-beats, pitched them high to 170 BPM and cutted with them on vinyl - like in the old Hip Hop-culture. Under the beat, they laid Reggae-chords and rappers did their Ragga-thing. Then, some witty deejays started to sample the beats in order to have better control over them. Lateron, some of them tried to cut them into pieces and rearrange them - the first real breakbeats so to say. Whith experimenting they drove down into the 1/32 note and complex structures like in nowadays Jungle were invented. 2(3Comment 2: 2Although I doubt that breakbeats were born in London, I must 2confess that the step from the simple sampling to the downcutting is logical. 2RokDee) Now the interesting thing. He said that the elder brother of one of his friends has already released a Jungle-track on a sampler from a small independent label. In fact on one of the first Jungle-samplers. FULER PAZE wrote that this guy pretends to be a nr.one man and calls himself one of the inventors of Jungle. My friend said that this guy isn't one of the inventors, but he was involved in the circle where the Jungle-roots lay - namely small Camden-clubs. Therefore he asked him he first got the idea to cut down samplebeats so far. 2This guy said 2that one of his friends had an AMIGA an once saw a module by one RED SECTOR guy 2somewhere back in 1989 or so, in which the composer took the beat from ERIK B 2and RAKIM's "Paid In Full" and cut it into small bits and rebuild it in order to 2have a drumloop with the possibility to do small fill-inns and to get a proper 2timing. 2(3Comment 3: 2This COULD have been "Wir Happy Hippos" by Romeo Knight/TRSI. I, 2however, doubt that this mate was the first one to use beats that way as also I 2did that before and Romeo Knight most certainly did NOT copy from me ;-> RokDee) Then this mate thought by himself: 2"I have 8 sampleplaces on my sampler, why 2not cutting my beat of eight beats down into eight pieces and rearrange them?" And so he did. First he also did nothing but fill-inns, but short later, the idea got spread and combined with other techniques from other people like pitching, shuffling, delaying and using echos and playing the samples backwards. Over the years, a new style evolved and is nowadays known under the name JUNGLE. 3Therefore the AMIGA must be counted one of the grandfathers of JUNGLE!!! 2(3Comment 4: 2Maybe E-NOZ is a little euphemistic here, but it sounds rather 2logical that the idea of cutting the beats inspired some DJ's. Therefore, the 2Trackersystem inability to create real promising beats by single drum sounds and 2the experiments needed to avoid monotony by using drumloops by cutting for 2example snares extra out, could be the predecessors of nowadays 2dancehall-techniques.
