3                            INTRODUCING LEMMINGITIS


Long  time, Scenology has barely concentrated on the basic aspects of the scener
and  his  influence  from  and  to the scene and life.  Astoundingly, only these
first  impressions  have  revealed  several  to  dato  unknown  riskfactors  and
structures - but also scenish illnesses, e.g., scene addiction.

The  primar topic I'd like to discuss today is a new variant of a known disease:
3THE LEMMINGITIS 1(lat.:  Lemmingitiosis brau rex).

This  illness especially is from deepest interest for Scenology since almost 95%
of  all  sceners show at least symptoms of this infectously outbreaking disease.
It  also  apperas  to  be a matter of discussions between Socio-scenologists and
basic scenologists as it only vaguely can be put into category.

3                                   RISKGROUP:
3                                   ==========
The average scener seems to be the most endangered riskgroup.  Spoken in scenish
categories  (Franceschi  1993),  the  circle  of modemtraders/sysops is the most
infected  group  in  percent  (97%),  followed  by  swappers  (95%).   The least
endangered  circle  seems  to  be  the  nondirect scene involved (= sceneres who
concentrate on creative matters without contact to spreading factors).

3                                   SYMPTOMS:
3                                   =========
The  Lemmingitis  received its name due to its most obvious and harmful symptom:
The  will  to brainless following (see 2DMA DESIGN "The Lemmings - begin and end"
and  Jonsons  referat  about Skandinavian Lemmings entitled 2"The bridge over the
2river" 1or 2"Banzai!  I had the time of my life"1).

The first phase after the infection with the illness shows the desire to be part
of  a  movement  that  understands  itself as anarchic and autarc.  After having
realized  that  the  scene  in no way fulfills this wish, the second phase which
resolutes  directly  out  of  the  first  one  sets  in:  2"If I can't be part of
2something  special,  I  at  least want to be part of something else." 1The scener
sees himself more and more in the position of a follower.  He starts to identify
his  own  ideas  with  the  ones from others.  Awillingly to become trendish, he
agrees  to  give  up  his  individuality  towards  being  an  accepted scener by
accepting widely granted opinions.
The scener now feels a deep desire for scandaleous news from diskmags - may they
be  proven  wrong  or only of speculative character - and is open for ideas that
only  seemingly  revolutionise  the  scene  (see  Brau 1993:  2"Funny Or What" 1in
R.A.W.#7).
The  third  phase  leads  to  total  upgiving  of selfstanding consideration and
creativity.  The  scener tries  to  formulate  ideas of others multiple times in
decent  diskmags  and  doesn't  earn  anything but vexing from his attempts.  He
looses himself in alcohol abuse and stumbles into total unimportance.

3                                INCUBATION TIME:
3                                ================
The  first  illnesses  symptoms  have  been scrutinized directly after the first
deeper  acknowledgement  of  a new scener with the scene.  Mainly directly after
having  become part of a greetingssection inside a packdisk since this obviously
is the start of each sceners carreer.
The incubation time starts with the appearing of the first symptoms and lasts as
long  as  symptoms  can be found.  Short timed scene withdrawal normally doesn't
help since reinfections takes place as soon as new contact to scene is made.

3                                SOCIAL ASPECTS:
3                                ===============
I mentioned the struggle inside scenologists circles about the actual meaning of
the  Lemmingitis.   The  Socio-scenologists  -  like  me  - want the Lemmingitis
understand as mostly of social character.
This  gets  obvious  when  understanding that the Lemmingitis has in fact mostly
social  components.   The scener gives up his individuality and follows sheepish
something that is being said by socalled authorities from the scene.  This could
be  influential  groups or personalities (editors, newssuppliers), who therefore
restrict the scene domination on few and concentrate the total power.
Also  individual  demos  can  be a factor to extremise the Lemmingitis (see 2"How
2Humantarget changed my life" 1Performer 1992 and 2"Childpower!" 1Lonestarr 1993).

The  major problem here is that if almost every scener shows more or less severe
outbreaks of Lemmingitis, who can be giving proper reasons to satisfy the needed
sensation  of following?  Do the leaders follow themselves?  Or are the ones who
ain't infected the ones who dictate the scene?

We  are at the beginning of a new medical aera and I've hereby made the start to
new discussion.
